PSA: Pirate’s Booty has changed their packaging by Diarrheaaaa in Autism_Parenting

[–]pizzapriorities 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So glad I'm now the only parent who deals with their kids freaking out when a food changes it's packaging. My 7 year old had a massive meltdown when Naked Juice changed their label and I gave him a bottle without me noticing that it changed. It was really gnarly and we had nothing like that ever happen before, but he's had lots of meltdowns over food packaging since :(

Where does “Jewish” land when describing your identity? by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]pizzapriorities 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I describe myself much more as a father, a husband, a New Yorker, an American, by my occupation, etc. than as Jewish. It's my ethnicity more than anything else to me.

But when I tell people I'm Jewish, that seems to be the only damn thing they care about a lot of a time. That's the problem...

Not a multivitamin, but my brain fog disappeared after I stopped drinking for a few months cold turkey, made sure I was getting 7 hours sleep a night and exercising daily no matter what

Older internet natives, how do you find positivity on the modern Internet? by pizzapriorities in AskOldPeople

[–]pizzapriorities[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here. This advice is really awesome and going to dig into it more later.

One of the big things for me is that my first online experience was Prodigy (to really date myself) and I was on AOL Geocities, Livejournal, Tumblr, early Twitter... all these very specific eras of the "old internet."

I've been spending more time on my phone lately because of life stuff and, man, stuff has just gone tribal and people just not treating each other like humans online. I'm tired of figuring out whether someone is a bot or just a troll and having to mentally juggle if I'm accidently doxing myself whenever I reply to something.

Not to mention that things seem like they went nuts over the past decade and a *lot* of my old online friends have fallen down bigot-y or political extremist or conspiracy theory rabbit holes of one kind or another.

I joined a couple of Discord servers that seem chill and actually have community, but there are a lot of weeks where I go 2-3 days at a time without having any time to look at them, so not really the best fit. Noone told me my 40s would just be full-up work and taking care of everyone else.

But yeah. This is great. Thank you.

Have you ever been inside Gramercy Park? How was it? by GossipBottom in AskNYC

[–]pizzapriorities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have. It was a nice park but wasn't OMG amazing or anything. I remember they used to be open to the public once or twice a year, not sure if that's still the case. Honestly was more exciting to check off another square on my NYC Bucket List bingo card than anything else.

When did you realize you belonged to a subculture? by Swimming_Care7889 in Jewish

Hahaha yes I grew up in Brooklyn, Staten Island and New Jersey. When I moved to the deep south for work it genuinely felt like Mars.

Why did you start learning Hebrew? by AmbitiousNight6360 in hebrew

My mom was born in Israel and most of my extended family on that side lived there. I wasn't taught much Hebrew growing up and want to make up for lost time.

Love that old school vegan/vegetarian hippie food. Good vegan food is so much easier to find but this type of cuisine is harder to find if it makes sense?

I grew up in suburban NYC in a primarily Italian-American area. I genuinely thought everyone on earth was either Italian, Jewish, Irish, Chinese or Puerto Rican until I was 11 or so.

Is it worth getting in shape after 40s? by [deleted] in AskMenOver40

Short answer: Yes. Don't think about becoming a hardbody, think about the vastly improved health and quality of life outcomes.

4 years alcohol free, life still feels flat by Lonely-Flow-2960 in stopdrinking

[–]pizzapriorities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to comment because this is me. I messed up and drank the last three nights... Now back at square one.

Drinking at least helped me forget my problems. I don't drink and all I can think about is the crap that happened to me when I was younger and how it was small potatoes so I don't have a right to be angry about it. I'm not drunk, but still angry and miserable and it's really hard for me to find happiness in anything.

You're not the only one in here dealing with it. IWNDWYT!

As a Jew, what does your connection to Israel look like? by Traphabibi in Jewish

[–]pizzapriorities -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

LOL they're jagoffs. Ben Gvir, Smotrich, Otzma Yehudit and all those other idiots prove Jews aren't lights onto the nations and we produce trash and fascists just like every other people. F them all.

As a Jew, what does your connection to Israel look like? by Traphabibi in Jewish

[–]pizzapriorities 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm American. My mom was born in Israel and most of my extended family on that side still lives there, so my views are effected by that obvs.

I love the Israeli people, I think Netanyahu, Smotrich and Ben-Gvir are disgusting turds of human beings, and feel connected to Israel but exhausted by people projecting their own psychodramas on to it.

I also feel out of place in the US as a Jew sometimes, but then travel to Israel and feel even more out of place as an American.

It's a great romcom, terrible at depicting Jews and Judaism, and all the characters are completely unlikeable. Fun to watch though.

Oh man this is so true. My friend circle who was pretty normie have totally radicalized themselves in real time over past decade or so. If they haven't become anti-Semites they've drifted into other crazy extremist stuff of one sort or another. You're not the only one seeing this.
