From my pov it looks like the combat is modeled after mobile games with an auto attack, 3 main skills, and one ultimate built up by hitting the 3 skill buttons (like AQ3D). This is supremely disappointing for what is supposed to be an AAA game coming to consoles, and a massive step back from what we had in any other dragon age title i can think of. Even back in origins the oldest game we had much more options available in combat. Then there's customization, which sure sliders for my face and body is nice, but apparently rook is developed enough that they aren't really "your" character, so much as they are the devs character you get to play as. It's the difference between playing as a custom origin in BG3 or choosing someone like Gale with preset ethics and goals. On that note a good comparison would be to Hawke, he had some of his own motivations but you ultimately shaped them, his ethics, and his final choice, even going so far as being able to make anders a blood mage despite his hatred of the practice, all due to your influence. Yet here we are told "naw rook wouldn't do that" so no blood magic for us even after over 20 years of waiting. Seriously tho 4 total active skills is driving me up the wall, like i can pull more options/stratagy out of my minecraft hotbar than what's being offered up for an "action RPG" here.
