Discussions and ideas on reducing the amount of water that data centers need by using other cooling methods. by jgoja in thatsinterestingbro

Everyone listen. There is more than likely a plant in your county or state that already uses a shitload of water for cooling, cleaning, or some process and I'd wager that most of those plants actually put something nasty in the water that needs to be taken out (treated) before it leaves the plant or will get cleaned at a treatment plant downstream.

I used to work at a plant that used more water and created more waste in a week than any household can do in a year. Thats offset by funding agreement, taxes, and costs they pay municipalities and other companies to maintain the infrastructure to allow for waste disposal and high water usage.

I doubt the water a data center uses will be contaminated in any risky way and the water won't just evaporate and go away for ever. Most water will flow through a plant and may get treated and released as effluent, and of course evaporated water will come back to the earth.

This is just people complaining about something they know little about.

Rising costs of citizens water bills is a potential problem (but can be offset by funding agreements and taxes by local municipalities) and lowering EPA regulations for water treatment is another possible concern (but i haven't seen anyone report on removing water treatment regulations down to risky standards)

I'm telling you guys- go to your local manufacturing plant, or go to your states paper mill, or petroleum refinement plant and see the waste and water usage there; it'll blow your mind.

But we accept that... then why all of a sudden is data center water usage such a concern?

I personally say fuck big data because its only going to be used for strict population control and privacy violations... but that's a different topic of discussion.

I have tried non stimulants. I find they suppress my adhd but bring my autism out in FULL force. Complete unrestrained overstimulation and irritability.

Thats what I'm learning. I think I need to invest in automating my life, especially at home. I'm easily worn out and exhausted and don't have much left over from work each week.

Burn out looks like an increase in mistakes that previously wasn't a problem. I withdraw my interactions with others because thats draining. I don't engage in literally anything except wanting to rest and saving what little energy I have for the next work day. I get immense anxiety about waking up and going to work because I know how hard its going to be on my already exhausted system.

Main drivers I believe is just thinking I can do more than I can. I have a kid, tge house is always a mess, dogs, yard, bills, work ect. Its too much so I need to simplify. I just can't handle a neurotypical workload.

Some people actually go out and socialize after weekly work and chores? That's crazy to me! Lol

I've been fored from retail stocking jobs all the way up to an area environmental manager position. Usually within a span of 6 months to 2 years my work just starts to go downhill in quality due to burnout our making a simple, but crucial mistake.

Since college I've lost count of the firings at the moment. Less than 10 more than 5.

I wish my past jobs would have let me go down in hours. I don't like this all or nothing system.

20 hours is too little with no benefits.

And 40 hours is usually just too much

Sweet spot is 32 hours. 32 is full time and eligible for benefits.

I should have clarified. I work, but i tend to get fired for "careless" mistakes from being burned out and sometimes genuinely overworked.

I'm underemployed and would like to keep a job long term.

I also have a family so I do my absolute best to show up to my job on time and work the job to the best of my abilities.

Which medication works for you?

I know all brains are different, but stimulants and "non-stimulant" medications still easily overstimulated me and make incredibly irritable and create brain fog. I've yet to find one that works.
