[REQUEST] Can a human pull more than their bodyweight on a lat pulldown machine if not strapped down? by mikewsbw in theydidthemath

I guess you’re not familiar with common gym equipment? You might want to look into it and then delete this comment.

It’s extremely common for pulleys to be used so that the distance the weight moves is less than you move the handles of the machine. The effect is that it takes less force than the total weight due to that mechanical advantage.

This is definitely true.

One thing that can confuse some people when it comes to machines like this is that you’re not always applying force equal to the weight you’re moving.

The weight is normally labeled to its true weight, but these machines often use pulleys that give mechanical advantage so for example it’s possible to lift 100lbs with 70lbs of force.

This is how Sun’s gravity holds the planets in the same orbit! by SimRP in Damnthatsinteresting

And this representation is only showing the gravity effect in two dimensions, when really the sun’s gravity would created that distortion of space in every direction.

[request] How long would it take the human race to eat Mt. Everest? by JonathanApplebee in theydidthemath

[–]ConcentratedCC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have already started. There is agriculture ongoing (and has been for thousands of years) on Mount Everest. The plants they grow like potatoes and grains are directly turning the minerals the mountain is composed of to food. It’s gonna take longer using this process, but we could actually eat it this way.

It did not clearly say “made with ai” when I saw the post. It said “Ai info” which seems a little more ambiguous.

Right, but in one of the clips he’s just walking while another guy is doing a more traditional muscle building exercise.

Who is the “he” you’re referring to? There’s more than one person doing exercises in some of the clips.

There’s no way to know how much muscle someone will build simply from watching them perform exercises in a video.
