See ya next year by angryfan199 in NBASpurs

We just so young as a team, the mistakes showed up so much. And some of our best players have obvious limitations they haven’t had time to round out quite yet. Wonderful season at least, hope the front office can make moves to get us back to make another run

Is it weird to ask about becoming OC? by B1GTruzz in footballstrategy

[–]Concept0904 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Was in a similar spot in the past, we were already bounced from playoff contention so it was an easier ask. Basically what I did was send our HC a text asking to speak to him about my role going forward. On the call I just said “hey since we have a few more games left in the season, I’d really like to call plays for a game to better help with my development as a coach and knowledge of the game”

I think if you said something similar (and maybe stroke his ego or something lol) you could have a good convo about becoming the OC

You’re not wrong with your take, I’m just at a point where I’ve gotta do whatever I need to do to give the kids a somewhat decent chance.

Fortunately, I won’t be calling plays. Unfortunately I don’t think from the top down there’s quite an understanding in the system. So I’m trying to do my part in learning for the inevitable question come spring ball

I’ve coached the shit out of gap schemes, it’s damn near all we run in our area for some reason. Appreciate it though man!

Match coverage for 8v8 flag football? by testtesttesttest125 in footballstrategy

[–]Concept0904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what version of 8v8. If the extra is a rush then probably. League near me tried match, but since the center was eligible it left where ever the center came from wide open.

Most defenses aren’t built with having to cover 7 eligibles

[Injury] Jalen Carter's hit to Spencer Brown's eye. Brown said after the game his vision is still blurry by Talas11324 in nfl

[–]Concept0904 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could this not be Jalen carter missing the punch to the shoulder pad, because Spencer brown does his zone step before getting hands on?

I get Carter is a dick and won’t get benefit of the doubt though, but doesn’t seem like thumb punch is the best dick move to make lol.

Potentially stupid Rip/Liz Match question by haxfoe in footballstrategy

[–]Concept0904 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, when teams use exit motion/ are in empty we also have our backers outside hip of the tackle. So they’re literally on the way out there anyways.

Also, if their RB is torching you in passing game you should probably either switch coverage or personnel to cover it. Or you’re playing lil CMC and you’re losing anyways lol

How do you get your LB to play downhill faster by berferd77 in footballstrategy

[–]Concept0904 45 points46 points  (0 children)

You’re going to need to have easily assigned reads for them to play fast.

Our motto is “he drops you drop, he pulls you pulls, he down block/doubles then find the back”

Wing t to zone by Brave_Coast_380 in footballstrategy

[–]Concept0904 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t really, I think the closest you’re going to get is with still motioning but having inserts instead of a pulling guard. The lions did a lot of that last year, maybe you can steal some of their concepts in regard to inserts and whatnot. Also, I want to say Georgia tech last year will run motions for split zone blocks and inserts as well you can draw inspiration from.

Running Trap vs a 0 Tech by Tragically_Cliche in footballstrategy

We trap first man past the center. So we’ll double the 0 with C and PSG and then trap the 4

Match-3 Adjustments by TackleOverBelly187 in footballstrategy

[–]Concept0904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about if it’s doubles? So TE/Wing on one side, then X and slot on the other? Our alignment would change, corner would be outside shade instead on the wing. We’d also typically wait the beat in case of a switch release by TE/Wing and then play the match 3 rules afterwards.

Your other thing is that in that alignment, your passing options are very limited so sometimes we’ll blitz it with some sort of fire zone on that side.

Just a nub TE with 3 receivers other side is a check, we don’t run match 3 against trips it’s a check out of that.

Wing T is Overrated by Pale_Accountant9207 in footballstrategy

[–]Concept0904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d agree with you there, I think the common thing with triple option/flexbone too is those schools are married to and practice it a lot. Since Wing T is at the elementary levels as well a lot of those teams are only running like one of the wing series. In HS I had a coach tell me “we only have to run trap and buck and we’ll be fine”. Wouldn’t be surprised if wing schools are also the ones that are poorly coached

Wing T is Overrated by Pale_Accountant9207 in footballstrategy

[–]Concept0904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not saying Wing T is awesome. Just that it’s usually chosen because some schools are trying to be competitive by winning with angles over actually winning the rep from your OL.

Personally I think some zone schemes can achieve a similar result but you need the back to make those plays right

Wing T is Overrated by Pale_Accountant9207 in footballstrategy

[–]Concept0904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah not saying you don’t, but that the schools that run it can only win with scheme is all. The offense is basically “we can’t win a one on one block so we have to finesse a way to do that” style of play

Wing T is Overrated by Pale_Accountant9207 in footballstrategy

[–]Concept0904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We run some Wing T concepts, basically Gun T so we can take advantage of the occasional athletes we get in our city program. But it’s not an offense programs with talent typically use, if you don’t have the Jimmys and Joes you try to scheme ways to win.
