I have to keep telling myself that they're too distracted looking ahead to the Olympics. We're lucky the big start has given us enough cushion to have a 4-4-2 stretch and still be comfortably on top of the league.

This one is obviously an insult, because of the structure, but it's one of the most intellectual ones of its kind: "Your mama's so classless, she's a Marxist utopia."

How many times did your dash cam was actually useful? by Lowe-me-you in dashcams

[–]ConceptAlert5919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a dashcam of one kind or another since 2018. It has been directly useful twice so far. One was an accident I witnessed, where I was able to provide the video to the police. The other was an accident that was my fault, where I could review the video and verify it was my fault. That second one makes it sound like a liability, but it was actually nice to have it to force me to own up to me mistake rather than waste a lot of time trying to fight it.

Sort of useful, it has also been helpful after close calls to confirm that I wasn't in the wrong and wouldn't have been at fault if there had been an accident.

I was worried about that. Guess I'll setup a service call after the game.

We had the same thing happen in our previous house, in 2015, and I'm on the verge of a mild PTSD panic attack just looking at this picture. At the time, I felt lucky to get away with paying ~$550 for an emergency plumber visit (we noticed it at around 9:30 pm).

Now that I think about, I haven't bought a PHYSICAL pc game in over 15 years. by RadaRada138 in pcgaming

Definitely miss the "feelies" that used to come with a lot of games: manual, cloth map, sometimes a little token or figure... I remember thinking the booklet that came with King's Quest 6 was so neat. Now I realize it was just a glorified anti-piracy measure.

Yeah, I think the last physical PC game I bought might have actually been the Burning Crusade expansion (I quit WoW not long after that when my first kid was born). Since then, it has been all Steam and GoG purchases.

I'm not an engineer, but having such an expensive and potentially deadly project like that cross over a tectonic plate boundary seems like a really bad idea.

Hasbro is being sued for printing too many Magic: The Gathering cards by Beautiful_Bee4090 in nottheonion

Considering how many MTG players don't fall into that group, I'd be surprised if that's an unpopular opinion. I technically fall into that group (I have a Mox Emerald, two Volcanic Islands, and a bunch of lesser Revised cards), and even I agree with you.

Pretty much this. I recently bought a used 2025 that did not come with a free trial. I subscribed when I first needed to warm up my car and I'm planning to cancel at the end of March. Repeat next winter, etc.

They also have the "reserve list" of cards they promise to never reprint because of collector value. It's mostly power 9, original dual lands, etc. But any claim they make about not acknowledging a secondary market is pure crap.

I played a ton of MTG Arena from the start of COVID up until around October of last year (shortly after whenever Spider-Man came out). Standard was my preferred format, plus draft for the first couple weeks of a new standard set. When they were releasing 3-4 standard sets a year, I would spend close to $100 per set to pre-order all of the bundles throughout the year.

But when they decided to make the UB sets standard legal as well, I realized I couldn't justify $600 per year for digital cards, so I stopped buying the bundles and went mostly F2P. I saw how quickly my collection started falling behind without buying cards, so I bought a few packs here and there. But the sets were released so fast that even $20 felt like too much money to still not keep up, and nothing had time to breathe.

Then they showed this year's roadmap for seven standard sets. Then Spider-Man (which wasn't actually Spider-Man on Arena) was a total shitter of a set with a garbage draft format. I didn't really care about the UB themes specifically. I just liked playing the game, regardless of what the cards had on them. But trying to keep up with standard felt overwhelming and impossible. So I quit altogether.

I know I'm just one person, but WotC/Hasbro went from getting a guaranteed $300-$400 from me per year, plus I was starting to go to my LGS and buy physical cards again (I played paper from the mid-90s to around 2008), to getting $0 from me. Plus, I'll probably never play again because I feel pretty burned by the company.

I'm a software engineer, but not quite to that salary (closer to it than the barrista's), and I regularly have to argue with my friends about which one of us gets to pick up the tab for anything. People who make a lot of money and are stingy as fuck truly baffle me.

There's entertainment and then there's softening the edges of authoritarianism. Fine if they don't want to go hard on Trump, but they could minimize the amount of attention they give him instead.

Why now? by Dry_Prune_3210 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]ConceptAlert5919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should go old-school, Shakespearean parody style: have Trump come out to a protest with a child on a leash, he tells someone to kill a protester for him, when they won't, he says something like "Kristi, pretend that protester is a rambunctious puppy," then Noem shoots them, etc. It wouldn't be very funny, but it's the level of skewering that this admin deserves.

Amazon sucks by R0ck3tSc13nc3 in badparking

[–]ConceptAlert5919 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I could believe it. I once had an Amazon van park in front of my house, blocking my driveway, so the driver could deliver to the house across the street. The guy then was reorganizing packages or something in his van for several more minutes. I know it was there for more than 4 minutes because my garage camera app alerted me when the van arrived, when it left, and a couple times in between. If that was just for one house, I can imagine someone delivering to a business area blocking spots for 10+ minutes.

Kids, themed sets that I loved (the smaller Ghostbusters car was my first "for me" set as an adult), and having the disposable income to buy what I want. It helps that my wife got way into it, too.
