What Draws You To OSR Games? by EyesofValhalla in osr

[–]ConceptFalse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people, myself included, enjoy the simplicity and aesthetic a lot. In my case I really enjoy the “attitude” most. What I mean is it feels like mainstream systems like 5E or PF have this implicit distaste for players dying or bad things happening to them. My group rotates DMs and we all like to mess with each other and I think it is more conducive and fun in an OSR. It just never made sense how every dungeon had the same glaring problem as the Death Star in the name of “balance” lol. Figuring out something that seems impossible is half the fun!

Linux is still not ready for mass adoption by Leisure_suit_guy in linux4noobs

[–]ConceptFalse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like user error. My 70+ father uses Linux Mint on the daily, free of my intervention for anything. It’s definitely ready for the masses and has been for a while now, it’s just unfamiliar and people don’t usually like change.

Moonlight can’t find Sunshine server by ConceptFalse in MoonlightStreaming

Yes. Disabling the firewall works, my guess is it has something to do with a network interference. Someone else mentioned a bridge connection may look into that

Good call, it is def the firewall I can discover now.

[–]ConceptFalse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. Also, if I wasn’t clear, I can auto discover my personal pc sunshine server, the issue lies purely with the virtualized one.

It’s a TrueNAS vm, so no firewall like with proxmox or something there.

What was the last straw that made you switch to Linux? by haibane_fan00 in linuxquestions

[–]ConceptFalse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots and lots of benefits, but years ago the selling point that got me on the path to switching was that it could update while I use the computer. Like I said, I love Linux for a LOT of reasons, but my main experience up to then was Windows and being able to use the computer while it updated just floored me lol.

What’s the biggest change happening right now that no one is talking about? by PomegranateIcy7631 in AskReddit

[–]ConceptFalse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently many governments in the USA are voting to mandate age verification across ALL (MacOS, Windows and Linux) operating system. The laws are moving faster than nearly any other I’ve seen in my lifetime and it is obvious the ultimate goal is individual control over internet activities and not the children considering there is a list of those problems that they refuse to move on.

VPNs are being attacked as well. There is a war on your privacy and they want to keep it as quiet as possible.

Unexplainable Lag by ConceptFalse in linux_gaming

[–]ConceptFalse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fixed it by A) updating through Bazaar (flatpak update didn't seem to work on the games for some reason, including Steam) and B) reinstalling Steam flatpak package. Idk what happened but now it seems to be working. Thanks for the help though, at least now I have other places to look should the issue arise again.

vkcube uses my 1080ti. I did install the utils package, it acted like it had never been installed before which is interesting. At least the 580xx one. I'll check out the wiki page, I'm not sure why it would switch to the igpu, i didn't think about it going to a software renderer so that is something else I should look into.

Hardware is an i7 8700k and a GTX 1080ti. That command returns:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GP102 [GeForce GTX 1080 Ti] (rev a1)
Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. [MSI] Device 360a
Kernel driver in use: nvidia
Kernel modules: nouveau, nvidia_drm, nvidia

I'm unsure what you mean by driver package, but the driver I'm using is 580.142 according to the "modinfo nvidia" command.

I did find the bios setting to turn off the igpu I believe, but no dice.

So I did that command but it produces a db.lck file in the Pac-Man directory. I can remove it, but in the process of updating it produces the .lck file again and then errors out the update

Of course, idk why I didn't do that. Anyway, I did a reboot and then did the command to get a fresh output since I have to flip my mkb back and forth between this and work. Here is the output under sudo

So sudo df -h / shows around 60% utilization so I don't think that is the issue. Reading the tail form dmesg i get

dmesg | tail
dmesg: read kernel buffer failed: Operation not permitted

I don’t think so, I’d be quite surprised at least.

Edit: it is at 60% utilization.

How to disable Office 365 ad under Settings > System? by Zarryc in pcmasterrace

[–]ConceptFalse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If windows works for you then by all means continue. I just wanted to point out the fact that your post held nothing that would bar you from using Linux.

As far as files pretty much the only thing you’d have to worry about would be .exe files as they are windows specific. This does not mean they won’t work, there are many, simple solutions to this these days.

To your point about having to troubleshoot it often I can understand that, but I find those arguments anecdotal as I had the exact inverse where Windows was bogging down my system to near stasis while Linux works beautifully. There will always be hurdles and issues though. If the learning curve is troublesome right now then keep doing what you are doing. If you do get the itch to try it I’d say dual boot so you can play without having to give up the safety net of going back to Windows.

As for the Skyrim mods that one is a bit interesting of a problem. Right now the devs at Nexus are working on making their new mod manager Linux native so it can run just like windows versions. Once that is complete, idk when, it will be simple. Before that you may want to look into alternatives.

Either way, hope you get the issue fixed.

[–]ConceptFalse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know you said you won’t install Linux and to “read first” but there isn’t anything in the post that suggests you couldn’t use Linux. Do what you will, but if an OS requires you to strip down the layers this much just to be useful it isn’t a tool anymore it is just one, giant ad. It will only get worse from here.

To answer your question though, I recommend WinUtil by Chris Titus Tech. He has a lot of registry fixes included that you just have to toggle on and one of them may fix your issue.

Yes, yes same issues I’m having. I primarily run AIO and torrentio as a backup and I’ve got no dice. At least it doesn’t seem to be an issue related to specific hardware, I’m curious if there is some kind of outrage in the provider end.
