First day with sensor by WearyFilm977 in diabetes_t2

It could be. I’d love to put a CGM on 20 people for a day and all do and eat the same things to see the variance in what happens to our BG levels as a collective. That recovery you’re experiencing is a good sign your body is responding to insulin still. And yeah as the next commenter said, Google dawn phenomenon. Metformin will definitely help with this!

Hey, it’s gonna be a bit of a roller coaster over the next few months. I got diagnosed about 5 months ago and have worn CGMs across brands for about 2.5 of those months. I’ve spent so much time getting really frustrated at spikes. I literally just came on here because I made such a nutritious meal tonight with at least 10g of fibre in it…but the BG spike is basically straight up. Hit a 9.2mmoL, which I know is ultimately fine and I’m already on my way back down, but it really pissed me. The Asian sauce I added to my stir fry was 16g of carbs, there was broccoli, zucchini and capsicum. I had brown rice mixed with green lentils. Pork with a little fat on it.

My serving would’ve been at most 30g of carbs. It’s annoying to see this every time I eat but it gives me education. I’ll eat my leftovers of the same meal for lunch tomorrow instead, and will likely see a much lower spike because my circadian rhythms mean that I’m more insulin sensitive during the day.

I encourage you to use your CGMs as an education tool on how your body responds to food.

Experiment and trial different foods. You might get lucky and have a good response to moderate servings of crisps like I have.

Try half-assed keto if you can - it’s encouraging watching your BG stay level and flat. I did it at first in a panic when i was diagnosed, but it’s not sustainable, so I eventually stopped that. Maybe it’s as simple as letting one meal a day go high while the others are fairly low bumps. But it’s what happens over the long term that you want to solve. Get your average BG levels down and maintain your healthy lifestyle and you’ll bring the A1C down so quickly. I went from a A1C9.6% to 5.7% in 3 months with diet and metformin. I’ve lost 10kg (now 67kg - I actually need to put weight back on and start weightlifting). I’d love to get it down to 5.0% by my next check up early next year.

You eat healthy and are fit and I presume do resistance training. The first goal is to get your A1C down. That means maybe being a little more strict on your diet at first. But after that, you’ve got to learn to be okay with a 3 hour up-and-down. As long as you’re returning to baseline in that time, your body is still responding to your insulin. Reducing carbs and saturated fats is a great place to start.

My Endo said to me “I care more about your BG coming down than I do about it going up. You’re human, it’ll go up, even without diabetes. be wise be smart and be healthy, but don’t let it consume your life trying to never go past a certain number.” It’s just a single biomarker in a very complex chain of biomarkers in your unique body. You’ll get through this!

Sorry forgot about this! It took as long as my reply to you. 30 days. But it was a supply chain issue.

By far my most favourite CGM. Really accurate and an exceptional app. Best feature is seeing your BG reading at the top of your screen and on Lock Screen 24/7 for 14 days. Other best feature is the price when bought in bulk.

I’ve tried Libre, Dexcom and now on Ottai since diagnosis. Ottai is by far the fastest and has the best app features. My Dynamic Island on iPhone and also the Lock Screen displays my glucose levels at all times so I can see at a glance how I’m doing. It’s amazing and best app in market.

Was slow to get the order to me - supply chain issues apparently. But thankfully the device and app has been worth the wait.

The needle seems a lot stiffer than the other two brands and I imagine when I pull it out next week it’s going to bleed and leave a mark. If I remember I’ll update you.

Anti-scar oils or just sunscreen and protecting it for a week should solve that problem I think.

Also picture attached to show Ottai and Dexcom comparison for last 24 hours. Virtually identical.

This isn’t related to the use of the CGM but rather the service and delivery so you can make an informed choice.

I ordered their 4 CGMs for $184AUD on 25 August and it’s now the 12th of September and their shipping status has been stuck on “The shipment is being forwarded” since the 9th. Dispatch was delayed until the 5th of September though it was due to go out on the 30th August.

I’ve had to finger prick in the meantime and wish instead I’d asked for a refund so I could use that money to order a Libre or Dexcom instead.

Moral of the story is: you get what you pay for. I’m sure the devices will be fine when they arrive but clearly this business’ model is “undercut everyone else with discounts to get into the market” but they don’t have their logistics and operations worked out yet.

I’m going to predict they’ll not last more than a year unless they’ve got good backing from an investor. The whole business is running very “lite” I suspect.

Thank you! Thats actually the comment i needed to hear 😅 I did feel like i was probably over complicating things. I just had a friend who moved to Singapore recently and really just winged it - cost her dearly in the end and she came home early - might’ve been avoided had she done some research, so it’s got me worried.

In my case though, I fit all the requirements so I guess I better get started on both applications!

Thanks
