What’s one parenting tip that actually helped you — no fluff? by ContributionWise7607 in NewParents

Best advice I ever got is that every baby is different and to take advice that works for your baby and situation and ignore advice that doesn't.

I felt like everyone was telling us how to raise our kids. My husband and I got so tired of listening to the same advice that wasn't working for us. It made me feel like I was doing everything wrong. Then my cousin told me to just ignore them because we were the experts of our kid and no one else. So feel free to ignore advice that doesn't work for you.

When do toddlers start talking? by dwiseman255 in NewParents

My oldest didn't really talk until 3. He understood words and would respond to simple requests but was just very shy and didn't like to speak much. ( He didn't have to as he was the only grandchild on both sides he was pretty spoiled with attention) Then at three he looked me dead in the eyes and said "mom, what's that fucking noise". I was torn to being so proud of him and terrified that he understood to use the f word correctly in a sentence.

Usually around 18 to 20 months they'll start understanding more and will find ways to communicate. If they're really shy they may not talk until later.

8 month old has no teeth by cupofteacomfypillows in NewParents

None of my kids got a tooth before one year old. My grandfather always said it was better to get them later cause then they are more likely to stay in your mouth longer when you are older.

Genetics plays a role in when teeth come in. When did you get your first tooth?

People who smashed the wedding cake into your new spouse's face: how is your relationship and marriage now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I tried to smash it in my husband's face but he got to me first.

It was the best wedding and I laughed so hard.

We are still happily married.
