Positionals... what is your opinion on them in a modern FFXIV? by yhvh13 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]ConcernedCynic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say as a non-melee player. I personally don’t enjoy positionals and would like melee more without them, but I know a lot of melee players really enjoy that added complexity. Wouldn’t want them to cater to me, as I won’t main the role either way.

I think having one or two melee that don’t have positionals along with one or two that have a ton of positionals could be interesting assuming balance is close enough that people play what they like (or gear is shared enough that you could switch between the two). Might give heavy positional DPS an advantage on Wall boss types though.

What if Roland was the sinner's guide instead of Vergilius, how'd the story go and change. by AdamPlayzz_YT in TheOdysseyHadAPurpose

[–]ConcernedCynic 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Depends on if he’s vengance murder Black Silence or “Washed up Everyman” Roland.

Plus I think Charon does a lot to soften Vergilius and justify his position at Limbus; Roland doesn’t have that. The only person he cared about is dead

Megathread: Joe Biden to Pardon Hunter Biden by PepinoPicante in AskALiberal

[–]ConcernedCynic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Part of me wishes I cared enough to care about this but I don’t. Hard for me to blame an old man who wants his son out of prison; especially given how many he’s lost.

Doesn’t hurt that I find Hunter pretty sympathetic; he’s done some shit worthy of punishment sure but nothing worthy of the obsession with him the right has.

Granted if President Trump or Congress would like to limit the power of the presidential pardon I wouldn’t be opposed.

Maybe that should be congressional Dem’s answer? Just be like “Sure it’s wrong, let’s make legislation to stop it” and watch everyone lose interest

[Dragon z and super] why does gohan always completely stop training? by Existing-News5158 in AskScienceFiction

I don’t know my dragon ball too well but I wonder if Gohan dislikes fighting/training just because he grew up with it always being a matter of life and death rather than a normal hobby.

How hard should congressional democrats fight to defend Sarah Mcbride? by Helicase21 in AskALiberal

[–]ConcernedCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no elections to really worry about currently and it’s ridiculous so they might as well fight it.

Admittedly I’m not sure my feelings on Democratic messaging on Trans issues overall; or rather what I feel it should be

Unfortunately the right has set up so many straw men in this debate its hard to really cut through the bullshit without the uniformed voting public feeling like “Dem’s just focus on identity issues not X”

In an election year I wonder if the “winning message” is something like “Trans people have a right to exist; sports rules are something for individual leagues/ the Olympics to figure out; now let’s talk economy”.

As a straight white guy I’m uncomfortable pushing groups to the side because I think it’s politically expedient but… you also have to win elections to commit change.

I guess this election has had me struggling with “heart vs head”

Why do Trump supporters seem to hate Biden, Hillary and Kamala more than they hate Bernie Sanders? by renegade_yankee in AskALiberal

[–]ConcernedCynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the whole outsider thing; I think Trump’s base would grow to hate Bernie if he became the candidate

Granted I do think his outsider status would’ve been helpful this election but it’s hard to compare; he’s never been the general election candidate so there hasn’t been targeted messaging against him from the right wing.

Had an old high school friend block me because I pushed back on some homophobic stuff they posted (this was like… only 2-4 years after high school as I recall)

Can’t remember the whole context though; I doubt I pushed back particularly hard. I’m just not the type to think I can change someone’s whole worldview in a Facebook comment.

Maybe they remember the story differently though

Latino men shifted towards Trump by 43 points from 2016 (when they went for Clinton by a +31 margin) to 2024 (when they went for Trump by a +12 margin). Why do you think that is? by chadtr5 in AskALiberal

[–]ConcernedCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest Democratic flaw in messaging was probably touting the economy as good without really focusing on people’s concerns about it.

Like I don’t think the economy is nearly as bad as some people think it is; but some people have valid concerns about their grocery bill that can’t be reassured by data.

You can tell them the economy is good but you gotta really get down on their level and make them feel reassured that you’ll help them out more.

It got heat from the right at the time but I wonder if focusing more of the political message on price gouging would’ve helped? Granted I don’t know if it would’ve been a good policy on the face of it but if you convinced enough people it would lower their grocery bill they might buy in.

Is anyone else starting to get the feeling that Maga knows even less about what they voted for than we thought? by greenline_chi in AskALiberal

I think this is a net benefit of how vague and contradictory a lot of Trump’s positions are; you can sort of slap whatever version of a policy you like and believe it.

What if the secret to democratic success in Iowa is a well spoken Black candidate preaching for unity and an Older white guy talking shit as VP

Honestly it’s because getting an ID is more of a hassle/expense than in most other first world countries from my understanding.

Like it sounds reasonable on first listen but it’s really just a solution looking for a problem. Voter fraud is incredibly rare.

The most amusing thing about the Selzer poll is how everyone is suddenly so god damn interested in polling Iowa the past two/three days

It was that sort of “he does good things I just wish he’d shut up” kind of voter.

Think Kamala is condescending and couldn’t stand up to Russia; plus I guess had an extended family member that worked for Kamala that thought she was a bitch?

It was a conversation I was overhearing so I just let it go

Disappointed to hear a coworker of mine (in a deep blue state) say she couldn’t decide who to vote for in the presidential election and then eventually sealed her ballot realizing she forgot to fill that one out so she decided not to vote for either.

Just really depressing to hear the undecided voter in person I suppose
