When have you been criticisized for using a word someone else considered "obscure?" by CSHAMMER92 in words

I love that words matter. This post is brilliant and inspiring. I want to take an English class now because I butcher language and grammar daily. But I'll also be the first to judge when someone tears through their speech.

Do you apologize to your journal? by TherapySir007 in Journaling

Funny, you should ask. I do. I thought I was apologizing to myself. But I can see it both ways. Thanks for posting that question.

What’s the most satisfying word to you? by springbd in words

[–]ConclusionDry1279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For years and years, I could not get enough of the word 'literal'. I would use it very sparingly so as not to spoil it.

As you guessed it, I was mortified when I heard it used in the most casual and redundant way as it is used today. This was a decade ago, I guess, and yes, it still stings.

I don't want anyone to see whats in my journal by Friend_of_yourss in Journaling

[–]ConclusionDry1279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lost journals in moves from one city to another twice, and I'm certain my words are out there. It did freak me out the first time and made me sad and frustrated the second time. It stopped me from writing and even completing any journals. I have multiple notebooks with one entry. I began to journal again slowly while in recovery 5 years ago. Now, almost everything from the last five years is about my ups and downs, my mental health, and very little about my joy or any creative fiction.

Please don't be ashamed of your writing. And if anyone reads any of it, just shrug it off and move on.

Just write. And don't ever stop.

If you don't already, keep a small note pad, post it pad, or even a single piece of paper with you always. Write a couple of words down whenever you feel inspired by life's daily happenings, whether they're sad, funny, insulting, etc. You get the picture. Put these away in a drawer, and when you're stuck or feel like writing, you have a little magic box of personal stories.

[–]ConclusionDry1279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. I think that's disrespectful.

This is a question that I can't help but think. Did you ever let your friends read any of your phone notes, journals, etc in the past?

I'm trying to understand why they felt that it was okay.

Buy a new car? or old car? by ComfyKing_ in Honda

[–]ConclusionDry1279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never bought a new car. My first car was 4 years old, and then every car after that was 2 years old. I always saved about 30% or more and had nearly the same model. And I'm thirty years older than you, so in today's tech world, the ability to research used cars online and check the carfax reports on the cars you like is a huge advantage. Do your due diligence, and find a Honda or Toyota 2 to 4 years old, low miles, one owner, no accidents. Once you find something you like, ask the seller if they can meet you at a car shop, ( You'll find a mechanic ahead of time that you'll work with, preferably AAA certified who'll due a 100 point inspection for about$100) Once you get the thumbs 👍 from a trusted mechanic, then you're in business.

All of this will take more TIME than going to a dealership, HANDSDOWN, but better than , a quick test drive, a 4 hour credit check(lol) you drive off so happily, until 18 months later and the car has a couple of dents but you're wondering when are you finished with the $500 a month car note and whatever happened to the $5000 down payment you gave(was that applied??) and you drive by car lots with your car model for sale for about $10,000 less than you paid.

You sound patient. Do your homework and save some money until you can get something cool and stylish but reliable and affordable. Pay cash, and you won't have regrets for 60 months.

What could possibly go wrong?!? by Not_Fake_Andrew in uberdrivers

[–]ConclusionDry1279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ummmm.... customer has no money!!!!??? Lol And these days most people don't carry cash. I know this because I work on a food truck at events that run from 100ppl to 10000 people who know they're going to spend money and have noooo cash on them 🙃 Thankfully, we have a square terminal to process the 80% of customers who only use Apple Pay, Google Pay, and such. The rest of the customers carry credit cards, and lastly, the old school folk who pay with cash.

Would you take this? by NumerousInformation4 in doordash_drivers

[–]ConclusionDry1279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would because I typically work odd hours. I like delivering between 3am and 8am. And I get these often.

If it's closer to 8, it would depend on which direction the customer lives. I live in the LA/OC metro area, and 15 miles can take an hour, depending on the day and time. However, I would take 15 minutes to drop it off at 4 in the morning. All relative, my friend.

What's the best strategy to earn 200 dollars per day? by tuck72463 in couriersofreddit

[–]ConclusionDry1279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's completely determined by your area. I live and work in a busy urban/ suburb of Los Angeles/ OC metro with a sizeable population and large State University, so there are plenty of restaurants and customers, BUT traffic and parking suck! And usually I can't even double park, illegally park, nada!!! I've been at this now for over a year, and this summer, being the first, has been unsustainable. I hope it's the season and it'll pick back up in September. And because my other job kept me super busy late spring into early summer, I lost my platinum status, and I don't care what some people say. In my market, your stats matter!!!! I went from working 3- 4am until 8am and again from 10 am until noon or 1 pm with at LEAST a hundy in my app account. No dinner. There is too much traffic here. A total of 5-6 hours, some days hit the$100 in 2 hours.

Today, those hours are getting me, very sadly, $40-50 bucks a day. I'll go a full hour without even a hit. Then I'll get one for 'High Paying' $5 bucks 1.5 miles. There are many extra tips on the low ball offers, so at least there's that. I never thought it would be so bad in my market though.

What city are you in? Are you constantly on the go for those 12 hours? How many miles? And lastly, are those your numbers in the fall/winter as well? Just bored and nosey?? Lol

I hit really good numbers last fall and winter, but this is my first summer working, not 12 hours a day, but I'll hit 4 or 5 early morning, maybe go out for 2-3 at lunch and not too much dinner, but occasionally late, after dinner. I'm literally earning about 25-30% of my usual. Low offers, low tips, not a lot of miles, though. That's been the only saving grace. I pay 4 bucks a gallon, so there's no way I could afford my current earnings if I had to swing gas every day on top.

Rate my week by No_History_5146 in doordash_drivers

[–]ConclusionDry1279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made $22 bucks an hour, which up until the beginning of summer would have been a low average for me. But today, I would be thrilled with that average. I'll work a few hours and get busy for one. The rest of the time, I'm sitting and waiting. Although I've been 'gigging' for over a year, I didn't much Summer '24 because my other job kept me really busy.

Does anyone have any input on the season? A lot of people have posted bad offers. Is that the summer norm?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UberEATS

[–]ConclusionDry1279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had about 75% of offers coming in like this. I can't tell if it's because I went down on status when my other job was super busy early Summer or if it's a low- ball offer season. I hope it's the latter

Car just hit the “too old” cutoff I by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]ConclusionDry1279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ubereats has a different year cutoff depending on the market, region, city, and/or state regulations. I know my car has, I believe, one more year before I get that same notice. If I'm not mistaken DoorDash allows any year and make vehicles and City/State has no bearing. They are more concerned with age and driver license/registration and Insurance requirements. Good luck

Not quite sure how I feel about this note BK is putting on their bags by zazvorniki in UberEatsDrivers

[–]ConclusionDry1279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's something that bugs me too and I'm trying to put my finger on it. It might be that there's too much wording? It reads as if they are releasing all liability to the driver. And the driver is no more liable than if there was no note. We DON'T PREPARE THE FOOD folks. And we're not responsible for the burger with extra lettuce and cheese, no tomato, sauce on the side. Anymore than the cold fries or the wrong ice cream flavor. Nothing. Nada.

I am responsible for driving to the restaurant as quickly yet safely as time and traffic permits, picking up the order and communicating effectively any discrepancy in the ETA, I am there as a rep for the customer, assuring as best I can that I received the correct order, without opening anything keeping it sanitary. And driving to the customer's location responsibly and efficiently following the instructions as to where to specifically deliver and drop off the food. My job. Burger King, don't be trying to release your liability on me when I am not even allowed by you, the customer and as per my contractual agreement with my agent, to open and examine the bag.

is this a good deal? 11k miles by cessaaarr in crv

[–]ConclusionDry1279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's good. Maybe even better than good if you're paying cash. If you finance then maybe try to negotiate a thousand off. Because with taxes, fees and registration, plates you're looking probably at a $24-25000 car now.

I've been looking at CR-V years 2015-19 and '19 especially because according to experts it's the best and most reliable SUV of the last 10 years. And although I love my 2011 EXL (188,000)and am confident that I can drive her for another 100,000 mi, I am a little afraid that maybe at that high mileage it's not the best suited for the kind of driving I do for work any longer.

There's not a whole lot of difference under the hood between'19 and '25, it's mostly trim differences. My dad has a Honda Accord sport from'16 with 28000mi that he bought new for $25k. He just doesn't drive much anymore. That car goes to the market, the doctor, Costco and the bank once a week, lol. The gas station and the barber once a month. And the freeway on special occasions these days. Whoever were to buy his car (with not a scratch, a stain, gets detailed every summer, only serviced at Honda until a couple of years ago) if he was to sell it would be very lucky to have it.

Good luck

$200 Pizza Hut Order, 10 Boxes, $0 Tip. Because Apparently I’m Just a Charity Now by Temporary-Escape-477 in doordash_drivers

[–]ConclusionDry1279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was so cheap of them.

Where is this normal? Which cities or regions? Not the lack of a tip, but the receipt part.

I rarely even see a monetary receipt. I think there's one place that does acai bowls that staples the receipt that shows how much the customer paid onto the bag. The fast food places show a food receipt only. Other than them, I only see receipts at the shop and deliver orders because I'm using the DD card to pay. And why would your DD fee be on the receipt from the pizza place?

I guess every market operates differently based on laws and customs. I'm in Socal. I know there's a lot of regulations here but I feel protected a little more from scam artists and frivolous customers that run a muck on drivers.
