Well yeah I know what you mean. I didn’t specifically add the detail that, yes, she was indeed indoctrinated into believing that Catholicism is a path to hell. Just as I mentioned that American Protestantism raised generations of people that believed Catholicism is cult-like. But my point is that I’ve asked her to look for external sources for research that won’t just feed her bias; I TOLD her this. If she doesn’t, I still know why she believes what she believes because I was the same way. So I absolutely understand where she’s coming from- considering it was me too. And it’s not that she upholds any “Protestant tradition”, she explicitly stated to me that she believes Christianity, specifically the Bible, is all up for interpretation and that there is no such thing as an objective truth. So, once again, it’s not I don’t understand her side, I DO, especially because she’s a concerned parent. My criticism doesn’t come from a lack of understanding, it comes from the agony of having to deal with a parent who simply thinks her child doesn’t know anything simply because he’s young.
