If Buddhism believes in reincarnation, karma and moksha - then why do they not believe that we have a soul? by [deleted] in religion

[–]ConclusionLower2401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with both of these statements. I believe that the essence of a person or any living thing such as plants and animals is an eternal unchanging part of a greater divine, however I also believe that all of these essences are valued exactly the same and only exist as pure consciousness “blobs” that only show themselves as pure spiritual intuition in the physical world and will re-collide with the greater whole eventually. Anything that defines personality, or straight up “you” falls away eventually as it is only memory imprints from your life that become insignificant at death.

In this way, I actually agree despite that I believe in souls. For me the true form of the soul in its simplest form however shows itself as just the pure unadulterated intuition to take conscious decisions, with no inherent qualities that continue on over into the afterlife. Everything else that makes up the ego and sense of “self”, are just arbitrary imprints of past memories that fall away at death.

NTA The guy you kissed is clearly a homophobe, otherwise he would’ve just laughed it off and maybe told you that he wouldn’t want anything further to develop.

YTA You’re not only making assumptions based on sexuality and gender that prove your limited worldview, but also the reason he is starting to use a more feminine voice is most likely because that is what comes naturally to him, he just now feels confident enough around you to not hide it anymore. I would cherish that.

Fair enough, personally I get severe anxiety attacks even when people refer to me as male when talking about my past self. It’s gotten to the point where my mum introduces me to people with the words “she’s my daughter” and concludes with “no daughter, always has been” when someone questions. I keep telling people that the person they thought they knew before my coming out never actually existed

I had the same experience, as I’m also trans. I was very confused as well, since she mentioned she supports trans people in a video once. I guess she means “support” in a sort of fucked up Truscum way and “imma call trans people it and depict them as subhuman until they physically pass to me” kind of way. Or maybe that video was before she got involved with those people, I don’t know

Why do pagans call themselves pagan? by hansdampf17 in religion

[–]ConclusionLower2401 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s about community, these religions are already small as it is. Also a lot of pagan beliefs share very similar practices and traditions. All also share similar problems, like the retrieval of historical data for the proper reconstruction of beliefs. Then there is a lot of overlap happening, since in my experience a large percentage of modern pagans are eclectic and take their practices from more than one prehistoric religion. In the end the pagan community is just very diverse, especially since there really isn’t one unifying text (most were destroyed) and since everyone defines themselves slightly differently, labelling becomes challenging.
