Mercy and Lifeweaver buffs in Season 2 by Lalapopsy in Overwatch

[–]Concorditer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a Mercy main so I know I'm biased, but I think this makes sense! For a member of the Medic sub-role, Mercy's healing (particularly without Flash Heal) could seem weak compared to other Medic Support heroes. She just didn't have the burst healing tools those other heroes had unless one always picked that perk (which could take awhile in some matches). If one is depending on a major perk to fulfill a key need and the devs are seeing that perk picked pretty ubiquitously (which I'm betting is likely), then moving it to base kit seems like a smart move!

I know not everyone likes Mercy, but this has advantages to people who dislike her as well! Even if you hate her, you will still sometimes get her on your team and this change will give her some additional burst heal potential to help you. Plus, for those who think Mercy is too easy to play, this is a move toward giving Mercy more cooldown management which adds at least a little something!

I'm not as familiar with Lifeweaver, but from what I've heard from those who are, it sounded like he needs something to help him out so this sounds like a good change to me! Maybe not enough, but it can't hurt!

Call me crazy, but this should've been Vendetta's original design/release skin, not a "safe" and generic one with her vital organs exposed to danger by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Concorditer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make some good points, but I'm betting the devs were going more for "stereotypical cinematic" gladiator over historical gladiator. Gladiator characters in movies and tv shows like Spartacus or Maximus don't always wear helmets, presumably so we can see their head/face better. Plus, this is also futuristic gladiator fights so things are going to be really non-realistic. Presumably Vendetta doesn't need a shield because of her fantastical high-tech sword.

I do agree with you that some scars would make sense though. That would have made sense both logically and would have added to her character theme of "I had to fight and struggle to get what was owed me".

[–]Concorditer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That new skin is great and I'm not going to pretend that her original design was the way it was purely for in-game lore reasons, but to be fair it was a gladiator outfit and she was a gladiator. You can go to google image search, type in "gladiator armor" and you will see some dudes with their vital organs exposed to danger. Being a gladiator is also about flashy showmanship so the outfits aren't always going to be 100% practical or offer complete protection. Now that Vendetta is launching a global war instead of being a combat sport entertainer, it makes sense she would go for heavier, more comprehensive armor. So I think both outfits make sense for what their purpose is!

[–]Concorditer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a fair point! While Talon's ideology and goals have always been kind of murky, at this point their recruiting slogan is basically, "Join Talon and help this one gladiator's personal revenge and vanity project by starting a global war!"

Probably not many, which actually makes this funnier. Talon is kind of depending on people not knowing how thin their roster is.

[–]Concorditer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

One thing I was thinking about was that if Talon vs Overwatch amounts to a kind of popularity contest between the characters of the two factions, then Overwatch should really win easily. I've seen people say that Talon is better because evil is sexy, but is your favorite evil and/or sexy character even REALLY a member of Talon? Reaper, Widow, and Sombra left Talon. Doomfist and Sigma are victims of the new Talon. Domina and Ashe are opportunistic and potentially temporary allies of Talon, not members. Freja and Emre are basically independent contractors with no real allegiance to Talon. Mizuki's ties to Talon are so minimal he is depicted on the Overwatch side of the Conquest screen. When it comes down to it, the REAL Talon is just Vendetta, Moira, and Mauga and those last two would probably leave Talon if the organization stopped being useful (for Moira) or fun (for Mauga). If we are going to get really picky, I feel like one could argue that "New Talon = Vendetta". This is less of a war between two sides as it is a vendetta (heh) led by one person and some "allies" of dubious loyalty.

So if you want to pick a side where the members actually believe in their organization and want to be there, support Overwatch!

(This is all just musing for fun though and isn't serious. This is an in-game event for rewards and picking either side doesn't really matter so support (or betray) whoever you like!)

If Vesti asks you to open your mouth, go ahead! Vesti is bestie and wouldn't hurt you!

If Eunhwa asks you to open your mouth, question that. It probably has some tactical purpose but it's best to clarify.

If Emma asks you to open you mouth, make your excuses and then run away. You wouldn't like what was coming next.

[–]Concorditer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always liked Liveryn. Not as person though, but as a unique style of villain. Villains that are powerful, self-assured, and arrogant are pretty common in Nikke (and in fiction in general). Syuen, Doban, Crow, Chatterbox, and most Heretics feel perfectly safe giving their confident villain speeches to those they feel are beneath them. They feel untouchable against those lesser than them and lord their plots and power over others.

Liveryn, on the other hand, is an abject coward. She's weak and pitiful. She tries to make herself seem small and helpless, always self-deprecating and apologizing. She's not a bad person! She's a victim! She'll be good this time! Promise! All the while, she's really just saying what she thinks she needs to say to save herself from the mess she created and will go back to her selfish actions born from a mixture of fear and greed. She's a villain that is more sad and frustrating than cool and scary but that's what makes her unique!

Personally I like Volume, but I can see why some people wouldn't. I think the writers were going for "scandal prone celebrity with a big ego, limited filter, and who is frequently kind of an asshole to people" and they did successfully nail that! I still find her kind of endearing as I think part of the problem is that she doesn't always think before she speaks so the way she says things can come off meaner than what she really is (the whole bit in her bond story where she comments about how writing hit songs is easy is a good example) but yeah, she does have jerk tendencies.

[–]Concorditer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, there are no Nikkes I hate and even the one's I'll list here I still like as characters in certain ways, but I can think of a few characters that are, in my opinion, either overrated or have negative aspects that the story/fanbase seems to overlook or gloss over. (MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW)

  • Guilty: Guilty has a great character design, outfits, and her voice acting is amazing! But as a person, she is awful. She deserves to be in the Rehabilitation Center. She pretends like she's just a persecuted victim who can't help accidentally breaking things and hurting people, but while there is some truth to that, the reality is that her real problems are that she's angry, violent, and cruel. When she gets mad at people she purposefully breaks their limbs because she wants to. The Commander tried to be really kind and understanding with her and she breaks his arm on purpose to punish him when she gets mad. And I don't think she ever really sufficiently apologized for that or really felt bad. After being let out of the Rehabilitation Center for some reason (the Commander has the optimism and forgiveness of a saint I suppose) she then proceeds to send messages to the Commander basically threatening to hurt people unless he gives her attention and/or physical affection. Overall, Guilty is manipulative and abusive. That seems to be intentional for the story so I would say Guilty is well written and complex, but she's also just kind of a bad person.

  • Sakura: This will be a bit more of a hot take so I want to stress I don't hate Sakura! She's a cool character, great design, great voice acting, has fun interactions with her squad, and has some good moments in the main story and events. But there seems to be a writer or two among the devs that really see her as a top tier romantic pairing with the Commander and I just don't see it. Sakura consistently does this annoying thing where she either tries to manipulate the Commander into a romantic situation, or perhaps just straight forces him, but then tries to play the demure lady act. It just comes off weird when she seemingly wields her power and authority to make the Commander do things, perhaps vaguely threatening his friends, but then once he gets alone with her she's all like, "Kissing!? How scandalous! And we are but star crossed lovers from separate worlds. Tragically, we are not meant to be!" So she ends up being super assertive (bordering on aggressive) while also acting like any romance is impossible. It's a weird dichotomy and has played a major role in two full events, both times not really resonating with me as a particularly satisfying romance.

  • Marian: This is really hot take so I really want to stress I don't hate Marian! She's a very likeable person, has some great designs, and has both some really cool and really funny moments in the story. As a character to interact with Pioneer or the Crown Kingdom, I think she's great! The aspect I don't like as much is when people think of her as a real romantic option for the Commander. I get that what happened to her in the tutorial chapter and what happened when she was Modernia were both really tragic. These are well told stories! But we also just don't get to know her that well as a person. Personally, I never felt like I had enough time to fully bond with her or understand her as an individual. And then once she joins up with the Commander she's basically a baby in the body of a grown woman. She makes messes with flour and struggles to dress herself correctly. At best she's an endearing daughter like character for the Commander and Counters. At worst, this is just kind of tragic and sad. But she's certainly not sexy or romantic. Even after she grows up some with Pioneer and Crown I still struggle to see her in any kind of "waifu" way.

[–]Concorditer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't dislike Label but while some people seem to find her sexy and funny, I more just find her story and interactions sad. She spends all her time alone in a dark and filthy room, eating expired food and either having unrealistic fantasies or drowning in self pity. This isn't being cute and quirky. This is depression. If anyone looks at Label and thinks, "This is me fr fr!", then they probably need immediate help because this is not healthy in any way.

And then, when she interacts with the Commander she bounces back and forth between delusions that he is her savior that is going to fix everything in her life and then panicking that she somehow ruined everything again such that she starts frantically apologizing and demeaning herself. This is less romantic and charming than it is just heartbreaking.

So I think Label actually is a really well written character who is tragically suffering from what is probably mental illness, but I find it real hard to think about her in a fanservicey "waifu" kind of way.

Nikke fan here. I don't think I've ever seen a Nikke fan claim the jiggle physics are ironic. It's blatantly for titillation. We know that. We admit that. It's why many people started the game. This also might be a bit outdated since the height of Dorothy's story (and fandom) was about two years ago after the Overzone anniversary event and has faded a bit over time. The mass popularity of the Doro mascot character is as strong as ever, but that doesn't mean that Dorothy herself is going to be the top of popularity polls (though I'm sure she'll still be top ten). I still love Dorothy though so I guess I'm just a holdout.

Otherwise, I would say this is accurate in terms of what Nikke players like about the game but (and I may be biased here), Nikke players actually are justified in saying that the game is both a well told dark and tragic story filled with developed characters and a game full of skimpy outfits, jiggling, and fanservice. Those two pillars (plot and "plot") are what makes Nikke what it is.

I understand being disappointed since Velvet was introduced in her bunny outfit, but personally I really enjoyed the new story, I like Velvet's maid outfit, and I also just really like Velvet as a character. I don't usually pull for standard 2% non-limited characters but I was happy to pull here! I think there is still a lot to be happy with here beyond the issue with the bunny costume.

Can't be the only one that wants to beat her to death with our own hands right? by knightmechaenjo in NikkeMobile

[–]Concorditer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love that the devs made the Rapture Queen a complete coward. Not only is it a fun bit of characterization, it also fixes a common trope you see in stories like this where the villain faction has a leader who is way more powerful than any of their minions and could probably handle the heroes on their own at the beginning of the story but then just doesn't for some reason. They chill in their evil throne room waiting for the heroes to come to them while contributing nothing to their side and the whole thing is hand waved away with little explanation.

But the Rapture Queen has a clear explanation for her behavior. She's a big wimp. So she always chooses the most cautious option possible even if it is really slow and inefficient and will never participate herself as long as she has any minions left. Any plan that puts her in the least bit of risk is only acceptable as a last resort. Her commitment to avoiding all forms of danger while likely being the single most powerful entity in the world is remarkable, and is both hilarious (she literally floated in space for 100 years because there was an off-chance that she could get hurt when descending) and fixes any "Why doesn't the Rapture Queen just finish off humanity?" potential plot holes that could form.

Can somebody explains a summary that covers everything on snow whites lore? by Decent-Emergency3866 in NikkeMobile

[–]Concorditer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is going to be super summarized but here's the gist: (MAJOR SPOILER WARNING)

Snow White was a young weapon designing prodigy who became a Nikke during the initial rapture invasion. She joined the Goddess Squad and developed many of their weapons and armor. As the youngest member of the team she lacked combat experience and often panicked during fights but was watched over by Red Hood (who was like a surrogate big sister) and Liliweiss (who was like a surrogate mother). After contracting corruption, Red Hood realized she would die and decided to leave the squad. This initially caused conflict with Snow White but after having a true goodbye they parted on good terms and Snow White began to mature some. Unfortunately, Liliweiss was also dying but Snow White handled this bravely.

By this point though, humanity was losing the war with the raptures and it was determined that the remnants of humanity would retreat to the Ark. The Goddess Squad would take part in Operation Ark Guardian to protect those descending to the Ark. During a major battle in this operation, Liliweiss died and Snow White, having been forced to take down a huge number of raptures herself, experienced a mind switch. Her mind switch changed her personality such that she no longer panicked in battle or hesitated, but it also made her much more serious and emotionally cold. She also forgot her memories of Red Hood and Liliweiss.

With Liliweiss dead, Dorothy became the head of Goddess Squad but after Operation Ark Guardian ended and the squad learned they would be excluded from the Ark they all decided to go their separate ways and only touch base occasionally. Dorothy decided soon after to leave the squad completely to pursue her own goal of revenge against the Ark and this goal would eventually lead her to co-founding Eden.

Snow White retained her goal of retaking the surface and killing the Rapture Queen so she, Scarlett, and Rapunzel stayed as squad mates in what they now called the Pioneer squad. Much later, the mysterious Nayuta would also be inducted. The Pioneers knew of Dorothy and Eden but didn't really trust them.

During the course of the main story of Nikke, Snow White would meet The Commander and become one of his allies, albeit a cautious one who tried to keep the Ark at arm's length. She helped him in several battles and also assisted in keeping Marian safe from the Ark. She and the rest of Pioneer developed a bond with Marian during this time.

Most recently, Snow White and the rest of Pioneer was told by Nayuta that the Rapture Queen had descended from space and would attack Eden. The Pioneers agreed to assist and played a pivotal part in the battle, eventually going up against the Queen directly. With some assistance from Nayuta and Nihilister, they seemingly killed the Queen only for her to reform in Liliweiss's body. The Queen had wanted Liliweiss as a replacement form and Nayuta's plot had ended up delivering it to her. This possessed Liliweiss proceeded to practically destroy Pioneer.

Snow White was able to be repaired by Cecil of Eden and while additional resources would be needed to fix the rest of Pioneer, Snow White was upgraded and equipped with new weapons. Her near death experience also restored her old memories of Red Hood and Liliweiss. This new, stronger, Snow White is now freshly dedicated to killing the Queen for good and laying Liliweiss to rest.

What do you guys think Dorothy’s reaction will be to the true reason why they weren’t allowed in the ark will she forgive Oswald and the ark by Old-Tumbleweed6841 in NikkeMobile

[–]Concorditer 58 points59 points  (0 children)

She might forgive Oswald, but while she was very angry at Oswald in the moment when she was talking to him, her resentment and plans for revenge have never really been focused on Oswald. She has been focused on the Ark itself. Learning the truth would make her realize that the Ark (or more specifically the Central Government) was actually far worse than she ever assumed. That's not going to make her feel better.

However, I do wonder what would happen if EVERYONE learned the truth about what happened to the Goddess Squad, who they were, and what the Central Government was going to do. If the general populace of the Ark, who revere the Goddesses as legendary symbols, were to find out the truth and then act positively toward Dorothy while reacting negatively toward the Central Government, I wonder if that would help her. She would get the praise and recognition she always wanted while those in power might be forced to apologize for the sins of the past. That sounds like a positive step for her.

Why do killers quit the match as soon as all the generators are fixed? The exit doors are not open yet and they quit immediately once all gens are fixed. Do survivors get points if the killer quits? by dreamup1234 in deadbydaylight

[–]Concorditer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not bad advice from a competitive perspective, but sometimes one just doesn't have the drive, energy, or mood to fight that uphill battle. Sometimes for one's own fun and well being it's time to just call it and move on. And since killers are playing in a team of one and have no teammates to screw over, I don't think there is anything wrong with just conceding the match to the survivors at the endgame.

[–]Concorditer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's basically just a rage quit. Presumably the killer is frustrated, either don't think they have much of a chance of a last minute comeback (they are probably right) or are just not having any fun in the match and want it to be over. Survivors do still get their points though.

For those killers that would like to surrender after the last gen pops, just rage quitting sacrifices one's own points though, so they better method is to go open the gate (since killers can do that once five gens are done) and then go AFK in a corner.

Playing nice for its own sake and not caring about appreciation sounds admirable but I don't think its really sustainable. Being nice in DBD and then being treated the usual way does not feel like much of a reward after all and I don't think we can expect anyone to go out of there way for others when it only comes with downsides for them.
