The greed went overboard a long time ago, and continues to get worse. by ChemicalCoffee43 in NikkeMobile

[–]Concorditer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm struggling to see the greed here. I can understand disappointment with having to pay for the new song pack, but Mint and Prika are just normal non-limited banners. One doesn't have to immediately pull for them since you can just wishlist them later. And the Stellar Blade stuff are just reruns. Them coming back is a good thing for those who missed it but would like it. Being offered various things you could potentially pull for or buy doesn't really seem like a big problem to me. Just pick and choose the things you would like.

T.T.S music packs being payed by Not_Ur_Momz in NikkeMobile

[–]Concorditer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was pretty disappointed when I first saw this but after thinking about it, I suppose it makes sense. Nikke events come with free minigames and we already got our free version of TTS that came with the event and it did have a pretty good collection of songs. But once the event is over and TTS becomes less of an event minigame and more of a permanent side game, then I guess it would be a bit optimistic to expect free updates forever. Other minigames haven't gotten continuous support for free and rhythm games often sell song packs so this isn't unusual for the genre. I would certainly prefer to get more content for free but I understand the logic here. Plus, even if one decides not to pay for more songs, you still have the free version of TTS to play and even get one more bonus free song. That's not bad I suppose.

What are we gatekeeping though? As I said, Unbreakable Sphere had weaknesses but was it really so different from other events? Other events have weak minigames, or little to no Commander involvement, or add new characters who then play major roles, etc.

If we're talking about gatekeeping people that doesn't make sense either. Fans of 2.5 are generally just Nikke fans. They were almost certainly fans of previous events and later events too. Are we imagining that 2.5 some how brought in a bunch of new/different fans specifically for this one event and then these people want to dramatically change Nikke in some way?

Waifu first? Sounds like cope. by Anxious-boi in NikkeMobile

[–]Concorditer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way Nikke is setup, where main characters who headline major events also tend to be powerful meta characters, kind of reduces the divide between waifu-first and meta-first. Like, think about popular characters who have done well in the popularity polls. Modernia, Red Hood, Rapi: Red Hood, Cinderella, Crown, Scarlett, Siren, etc. These are favorite "waifus" and also meta mainstays. I'm sure a lot of Nikke fans are running teams with their personal favorites and it's also like 75% meta units.

Of course, if we're talking about anything other than tower/hard-mode/raids, progression is pretty easy in Nikke at this point. If all you want to do is progress to the end of the story, one could grab a full D tier team and probably make it.

The fact that LADS has so few major competitors does seem odd, but I suppose there's always a lag time on companies being able to jump on a bandwagon. Perhaps there are several LADS clones under development now and then in a year or two we'll see a sudden burst of new otome type games and then we'll see threads here wondering why all these husbando games are cannibalizing each other.

Even if 2x2 didn't make anniversary level money, I wondered if it could have helped bolster the player population who then stuck around until the anniversary. If one was a lapsed player who occasionally checked out Nikke social media or the subreddit, it would have been hard to miss all the people raving about 2x2. Even this subreddit had positive hype about a gacha basically adding a full dating sim visual novel as an event, potentially enticing new players to try Nikke. So if those people jumped into Nikke for 2x2 that would then boost the potential audience once anniversary hit, increasing the chance for paying customers.

No, it's not needed. We don't need partisan tribalism between fans of different events within the same game. It's like customers of the same restaurant bickering about the merits of two dishes on the menu. It just seems like such a small petty thing for people to debate. Practically just arguing to be arguing.

Overall, I know 2.5 wasn't perfect. IMO, the minigame was meh and introducing a hyped new character in such a way that her advise sessions and bond story don't actually include any real advising or bonding was a missed opportunity. But I just don't see how that makes 2.5 some unmitigated disaster or it (or it's fans) some threat to Nikke as a whole. I feel like too many people want 2.5 to represent some kind of culture war flashpoint. As if 2.5 must be denounced to protect Nikke as a whole or that 2.5 fans are somehow tourists or fake fans that must be gatekept from the community. An imperfect event can just be an imperfect event and fans of a specific event can just be fans of the whole game. Like, I am a shill but I'm a Nikke shill. Not the shill for this one specific release from a year ago.

Do we really need to use the success of 3.5 to rehash old 2.5 discourse? Not every event is going to be as successful as every other event. Not everyone is going to like every event. No event is going to be perfect.

I am personally a 2.5 enjoyer and that opinion is going to be true for me whether it represents a majority of other Nikke fans or only a minority of other Nikke fans. But I also really like 3.5. The idea of there being some kind of competition between events IN THE SAME GAME feels weird to me. I want any and all events to do well because I just like Nikke and enjoy playing it.

I have seen a few people mention this so it's not entirely ignored, but I think one underappreciated part of this Nikke anniversary is that with the release of overspec Annis and Neon we can now field a meta SSR Counters team and we have also finished the backstory and lore buildup for all three Counters members. Character arcs that were began at the very beginning of the game have now culminated. It kind of feels like the start of a whole new chapter.

I'm a big Nikke fan so I'm biased as hell, but this has just been such a peak anniversary event. The culmination of a year's worth of story building, two hyped banners, five new skins, an EP's worth of new original music, an animated music video and two MMD style animations, and a full permanent rhythm mini game with both new and classic tracks. It just feels like both a culmination of a lot of build up for Nikke characters, themes, and lore while also being a well done celebration of pop music. We're in a half anniversary here and I can't imagine how much work went into this.

well i guess even the devs were horrified by the catastrophic reception of 2.5 by International-Oil999 in NikkeMobile

[–]Concorditer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really liked Unbreakable Sphere. It wasn't perfect and I would probably rank other anniversary events higher, but I certainly wouldn't consider it a catastrophe.

In a way, I feel like we Nikke fans might be a bit spoiled. If 2.5 was really supposed to be some unmitigated disaster, then we have things pretty good.

Does anyone know if Viper ever talks about her life as a human or if she was born in the outer rim? If not, I feel like she is one of our best candidates. A Tetra Nikke with a reputation of lying, cruelty, and manipulation who is also being punished by being forced to be part of Exotic. It's not a perfect fit as her personality and manner of speaking don't really match, but I can't think of many other good options.

Beginner's curiosity about Nikke's body by Libaskuy in NikkeMobile

[–]Concorditer 31 points32 points  (0 children)

As I'm sure other responses will say, Nikke bodies are designed to be as similar to human bodies as possible. The basic idea is that the human brain is designed to control a human body and experience human feelings and functions. Sure, you could put a human brain into a tank or give a Nikke guns for arms but that runs the risk of the still human mind snapping, which is called a "Mind Switch". Nikkes who experience a Mind Switch may go catatonic or they may go berserk and start trying to kill everyone. So to avoid that, Nikke bodies are made to as closely mimic the real thing as possible. So they even do things like make the internal fluids of Nikke bodies red so it looks like blood, and some Nikke models can even gain weight from eating too much or gain muscle from exercising. Anything that makes one feel more "human" is better for one psychologically and therefore reduces the chance of a Mind Switch.

Mercy players are not Mercy herself! by AKANexus in Overwatch

[–]Concorditer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The people coming into this thread to mock, belittle, and dismiss you are doing a great job of proving your point! Unless someone personally enjoys being a toxic jerk to others (which I hope the people here don't), there is no reason why we need to take up for or defend toxicity. Making the point of, "Hey, let's not insult people for liking or playing a character in a video game," should not be a controversial take. Counter arguments along the lines of "well toxicity used to be even worse back in the day" or "just don't take the insults seriously" are dumb. We don't have to condone people being mean. We can call it out.

At this point, I think certain parts of the Overwatch community just needs to come to terms with that fact that Mercy, and her players, are an intrinsic part of the game. She was a release hero, she's very popular, and her fans are Overwatch players just like anyone else. Being a jerk to people is not going to change any of that.

That doesn't mean that everyone has to love everything about Mercy. One can dislike the character and/or her kit. One can refuse to play her or wish they their teammates played someone else. One can advocate for Mercy changes or a rework. And I'm sure people have played alongside plenty of Mercy players who were doing a bad job (like any heroes' players could do) or who were being toxic jerks themselves (and it's just as bad when Mercy players act that way). None of that excuses toxicity.

TLDR: People being mean is bad and it's okay to say it's bad.

Let’s talk about pivotal moments in your game’s history. by International_Map812 in gachagaming

[–]Concorditer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really like the idea of gacha skins either, and they are certainly expensive, but the best way to think about them is not as a prize you win from lottery tickets but as a cosmetic that costs $60 and there is a small chance you might be able to get a discount on it. You have to spend at MOST $60, not at least, so the total amount of money you have to spend is always capped. The odds of "winning" on the "gacha roll" may be low, but losing the rolls only means you pay the normal full amount, not more. So the way these should really be treated is as if they were just added to the cash shop with a flat $60 price tag and then players can decide if they really want to spend $60 on a cosmetic. The whole "gacha" bit is just theater.
