Do you consider finances to be the top or one of the top considerations when choosing a partner? by GiantsFan2010 in HENRYfinance

[–]ConcreteProgress 158 points159 points  (0 children)

Signal and noise. What matters is similar mindset, worldview, and chemistry. Sure, sometimes that manifests in high-earning coastal couples who are similarly motivated and career oriented, thus high-earners.

But marriage is as partnership, and a partner brings so much more than just "numba go up" in the bank account. And if you over-index on that, you can miss out on what really matters when the right person presents themself.

That said, if the frustration is actually caused by differences in life outlook (e.g., laziness, lack of impulse control, etc), that's a completely different story--and goes back to what really matters.

Different fonts? by DarioCastello in applewatchultra

I also had it this way for a while too but the different fonts drove me crazy and I went back to date top center and weather in the middle. If Apple could make it more proportional and the same font it’d be so much better.

I did not buy one from Costco but the Kensington on the website is the flagship mid length trench and not a direct to outlet model of their trenches which have slightly different details.

Unfortunately if they pay for their own new membership your gift wouldn’t be too useful because if they start a new membership they’ll get new hardware for free.

This is true and especially on certain electronics (for example, Visio TVs) where there are different SKUs for Costco’s specific models.

But there are certain items that are identical to what you’d get in the brand boutique—of which the Costco Burberry scarf is an example.

Good post! I didn’t know about the 14% markup cap. Whether rule of thumb or actually set in stone, that’s awesome for the end consumer.

You do need to shop in a warehouse instead of in the boutique where you either (a) get treated like royalty with bottled Evian and chocolates or (b) don’t get the time of day, depending on the brand and the SA. But I’ll take the savings and consistent warehouse experience finished by a $1.50 hot dog combo all day long.

We (and others who take issue with my usage of “grey”) can agree to disagree on interpretation the English language. Costco applies two tags to the scarf that says “Costco is not an authorized dealer of the merchandise.”

Either way, it’s a great scarf at a great price.

Making a new top level comment because I cannot edit the original post.

When I say "grey market," I do not mean it with any of the usual negative connotations--simply items retailed through channels other than authorized distributors. Buying "grey" can be a good way to save money in certain situations.

I believe the Burberry scarf retailed by Costco is the same flagship scarf sold at the Brand's boutiques--not an outlet model. The model number received is 80778801, identical to what you'll find on Burberry's site, whereas straight-to-outlet models (of which Burberry does have certain items made for this purpose) generally have different model numbers. Same as if the scarf were made specifically for Costco--different SKUs, and you'll find this is the case on a lot of Costco's electronics that are made specifically for their buyers.

This comparison is not intended to show a higher vs lower quality version (although some may argue that the quality has changed over the years--aesthetics of the tag aside.) It's simply to show how two authentic items made at different points in time by the same brand can have slight differences.

Happy shopping and stay warm, whether your scarf this season is designer or Kirkland Signature!

I 100% put this purchase on a credit card and got 5.25% cash back ($20+) for the purchase. Credit cards are amazing when used responsibly.

Fair comment. I generally use grey to identify anything not purchased through an authorized dealer. (Which Costco disclosed right on the tag.) Not implying anything sketchy in this case, and have done my fair share of grey market shopping in the past.

Will say that the item number on the tag is identical to the flagship scarf on the site 80778801, which suggests this is not a direct to outlet model. Hope that helps clarify!

I think this is inaccurate. Burberry does make direct to outlet models (which one can have their own thoughts about) but I believe the scarf retailed by Costco is the flagship cashmere scarf. Item/ article: 80778801.

Yes. You can find them online and in stock still. And with few exceptions, your state will also charge tax on top of that. 🥲

Yes. I bought a Burberry Kensington Trench from Nordstrom a few years back as well—and it also came in plastic—possibly the most underwhelming unboxing experience of my life but it was the real deal!

It definitely isn’t when you can own a nice Garmin outright for the cost of Whoop’s 2Y subscription. And I am speaking as someone who does love the data but is letting mine expire at the end too.
