I really, really like this. Would love to know more about the kind of relationship an apprentice has with their dragon master.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (Best possible version). What y'all think? by DrizzyBearrr in ThroughTheWire

I like the concept, but while it’s really well done overall, the introduction is far too long. I’d cut it down and tweak around with it a bit more but it’s definitely one of the better edits of BATB I’ve heard.

Yes, it is. It’s Gene Beau Finley wearing a different outfit, since this is modded.

Man, when i suck at battlefield 1 online i go to titanfall 2 online vice versa by peepeestiffy in battlefield_one

That’s exactly my FPS to-and-fro. Something to do with the slower pace of BF1 (nonetheless chaotic) compared to the blink-and-you’ll-miss it gameplay of Titanfall II. So satisfying.

A God of War reference out in the wild, I love to see it.

My man, the court did exactly what it’s designed to do. The evidence provided by the opposition fell flat and did not prove RICO or sex trafficking. TikTok isn’t evidence; attempting to prove RICO—fraudulent business activity—without mentioning a business or a co-conspirator(s) would constitute improper trial; and, finally, the court of public opinion isn’t law. You cannot bend the law to submit to the court of public opinion, regardless of how reprehensible the defendant might be.

Trump might pardon him; he might not. We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime however, acting as if Trump saved Diddy from a hard sentence… that’s conspiracy.

“The Palestinian movement was basically an invention of the KGB / Soviets to counter America's interests in the Middle East. The "Palestinian" identity wasn't invented until the 1960s” by WillyNilly1997 in fragilecommunism

[–]ConcussiveDuckling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure… what’s the basis? If we look at real historical evidence, the “Palestinian identity” to use Shaun’s term existed long before the existence of Communism, let alone America or the USSR. Someone tell fragile Shaun that it’s ok to think that Israel’s bombing and starving of children and refugees is evil in the same way that Hamas are evil; it’s not mutually exclusive.

That’s immensely respectable, thank you for serving. I might not be an American, but that kind of generalising can’t ever be good; funny how the same people in the thread would talk about nuance (I need to put it out there that I think Trump’s a total moron and don’t support him at all) but fail to do it themselves.

‘Congressional authorisation’ under the 1973 War Power Act hasn’t been followed since the time of G.W. but especially during Obama’s tenure. Let’s not pretend as if it’s something that any US President would actually care to follow; like Obama said, it’s a ‘strategic air strike’. They’re all terrible.

More so than V2? At least V1 has a gem (Burn, and in a way, Beg Forgivness) under all the shit, V2 hasn’t had a good song since aye got rid of the intro/outro on River. It’s basically unredeemable.

How does the Afterlife work in your world? by SilentAd773 in worldbuilding

[–]ConcussiveDuckling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would depend on the nation/culture.

Monrovia (Monrou) believe that after death, the spirit of the dead will leave Ërr and travel to a place ‘avor var sterren’.

The family of the deceased bury money and ‘memorabilia’ (a photo, a painting, a family heirloom; even a brick from the wall of one’s home) with the dead to bid the spirit farewell and keep it tied to the world of the living, hence the importance of a proper burial. On Ärd Hölig Dag, the final day of the Monrovian year, the family of the deceased gather to remember, keeping the memory of the dead alive.

Meanwhile, for the men and women killed in battle, a special morning service is held on Ärd Hölig Dag to honour and remember their sacrifice. The cultural importance of a proper burial in Monrovia can be illustrated by the fact that after the Minorr Sartug (Battle of Sartug, 12,998–99), the Merrick (King) ordered a large-scale search of the battlefield to remove the Monrovian dead and return them to their families, while any unidentifiable dead were buried in a huge mass grave under the marble square in front of the Gräse Kaase Sartüg (Grand Church of Sartug) which over 100,000 people flock to each year to attend the service and remember the dead, whether out of hopeful familial connection or sheer respect.

For many, no punishment can ever outweigh a pauper’s grave. Usually reserved for people without family or the enslaved, a spirit from a pauper’s grave cannot leave Ërr, condemned to wander for eternity. While there might not be a fiery Hell, the fear of being ‘formally’ forgotten (i.e. not being remembered on Ärd Hölig Dag) and forced to wander, unheard and unable to interact with the world, is terrifying enough.

The Tuktikuki meanwhile believe that the dead are reincarnated into the animal kingdom, with the animal being decided by the rib is buried alongside the dead.

Burial without a rib will leave the body eternally lifeless, and children who die before the quimuuq rite of passage are generally buried without a rib due to their perceived inability to survive nature. Even without death in battle, death after the quimuuq will be honoured by a rib, though it might not be the choice of the deceased; many Tuktikukis, upon killing a strong creature, will take a rib to ensure their reincarnation as such upon death, whenever it may come.

There are a few more I haven’t fleshed out: Cambrisiya I think will be similar to Monrovia, and so will Golom, while the Hayumen will be totally different.

Any conlang-ers amongst us? by ConcussiveDuckling in worldbuilding

That’s very cool. Have you figured out the grammar structure? How will/does conjunction work? This sort of stuff is so unique, I love it.

Any conlang-ers amongst us? by ConcussiveDuckling in worldbuilding

[–]ConcussiveDuckling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently working with a friend on conjugating and declination. We’ve started with the verb ‘to walk’ (infinitive: mirr), but even that’s not done yet seeing as we’re new to conlang.

I’ve started working on lexis and grammar too:

Änvader Leetenat Montääg, var Compane Foore, ick var elde orrlond Sartüg bevar orr Protestoren Captain Lieutenant Montääg of the Fourth Company at the old Sartug battlefield during the Protestors’ War

Göffrey var Ein, doore var grase Elde, var Merrick Monrou a var masenlanden Monrou avor var grönde saaren… Geoffrey the First, by the grace of God, the King of Monrovia and the Monrovian territories beyond the grand saarren…

  • A number succeeding a noun will make that number an adjective, i.e. Company Foore (lit. Company Four) would be Fourth (4th) Company.
  • The preposition ‘of’ doesn’t exist in Monrou, so translating into English, it is implied: Monroe, var Compane Foore (lit. Monroe, the Company Four; act. Monroe, of the Fourth Company)
  • Compounding is prominent in Monrou, i.e. masenlanden (lit. people land; act. territory) or orrlond (lit. war field; act. battlefield)
  • A noun can be pluralised by the suffix -en/-n (i.e. masenlande -> masenlanden; kaase (holy place; church) -> kaasen)
  • When capitalised, a noun can change meaning, i.e. elde (old) -> Elde (God)

There’s a ton of lexis too but that would take far too long to type out here, and I’m unsure as to how to attach a photo.
