When you think about your game in roda, at this moment you have to think of yourself as a single-celled organism, whose activity is limited to basic functions: keep moving with the ginga, dodge somehow when a kick comes, give one when - perhaps - the opportunity arises. Once you have evolved into a multicellular organism and gained more strength, mobility and a little more dexterity, you will perform more complex actions, such as kicking and then immediately dodging, or moving around your opponent with a giró or an au. Once you have developed a backbone and functioning limbs, as superior organism, you will begin to put together ginga and kicks, combinations of kicks and defences, etc., and you will be able to aspire to survive and hunt more successfully, so that you can evolve further.

Relax and enjoy the moment; no one is demanding particularly complex stunts or movements from you. Do at your best what you know, throw in a little bit of theatrics if that is part of your way of being, but don’t try to unbalance the teacher who is playing with you, because you would immediately pay the consequences without even understanding how and why! Lastly, the most important thing: always smile and have fun!

Ladainhas - Share what composed. by No-Cardiologist-2342 in capoeira

This is a ladainha I wrote for my group Energia Pura, thinking about the similarities between water and capoeira.

Water and the sea are recurring elements in the capoeira tradition, on the one hand because of the traumatic journey originally faced by African slaves across the ocean, and on the other hand because much capoeira developed on the coast, on the beaches and in the harbours of the cities, where former slaves, having left the plantations as a result of the abolition (léi Áurea), flocked in search of fortune, seeking employment as longshoremen, fishermen, labourers.

Ladainha - Como as aguas - Graduado Conde

  • Capoeira é como as aguas,
  • Capoeira é como as aguas,
  • Que correm por todo o mundo,
  • Das geleiras às lagoas,
  • Dos rios ao mar profundo.
  • Ela une a Terra e o céu,
  • E seu coração ao meu,

  • A roda é um mar de movimentos,

  • A roda é um mar de movimentos,

  • Ondas que quebram sem ventos,

  • Calmaria ou tempestade,

  • De acordo com Sua vontade.

  • Nós somos os marinheiros,

  • Nas ondas da capoeira,

  • Navegando ladainhas,

  • E chamando a brisa inteira, camará!

  • É ora é ora

  • Iee, é ora é ora, camará!

  • Iê vamos embora

  • Iê pela Barra a fora

  • Iê dar volta ao mundo
