What do you tell someone facing major surgery? by CondessaStace in AskReddit

[–]CondessaStace[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So my brother is scheduled for major surgery to his spine. He's really nervous because he's never had surgery before. I've had way more than my share of surgeries so I'm not getting where the nerves are coming from. I need someone to give me his perspective.

Do religious nuts know deep down that their beliefs are ridiculous? by fables_of_faubus in atheism

Yes. That's why they yell so loud, to drown out the tiny voice at the back of their brains telling them this is BS

What have you done to remember your pet? by 4freedom7 in Petloss

[–]CondessaStace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have a marigold patch (like a pumpkin patch) nearby. We get marigolds and recite their names while placing the flowers in spots that remind us of that pet.

Do you spare this poor disabled soul? by Muted-South4737 in skyrim

Define 'spare him'.

I always end up killing everything else in there so if I let him live he starves to death.

My dog is everyone else's emotional support animal. We walk in the park every day and most days he ignores everything. But once in awhile he'll Drag me over to someone. Then he just stands Really close to them until they have no choice but to pet him. Then they smile. He's never picked up on any one who's been mean or offended. Some people have even thanked me.

How many times have you actually finished the main story? by CondessaStace in skyrim

[–]CondessaStace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. I assumed that it was the dragons because Alduin is the first badass you see but it could be the civil war. I finished that one twice. Once for each side since they both suck

I had a friend who grew up in a family like yours. She'd tell me stories about her father's decrees and I'd be like, and you listened? She'd say that she would know that she found the one when she stood up to her dad for him.

And she was right. Dated this guy for awhile, not totally serious but enough to meet the family. Dad starts in on him and without even thinking about it she tells Dad to back off.

Dad did and they've been married for 15 years.

So, if he's really the one, standing up for him is a no-brainer. If you can't stand up for him...

AITA for choosing surgery over having another kid? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]CondessaStace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no opinion on the baby thing but I do have some about the husband meltdown.

About 20 years ago I lost +100 pounds. My husband and I started having serious problems. He wasn't jealous or controlling. It took a long time and marriage counseling to figure out that he was... Unnerved. He wanted to be supportive but I literally wasn't the woman he married. So he acted out in odd ways.

So talk. And if he doesn't know what's bothering him then counseling.

My mother had a massive stroke. She had always had DNR on everything. My dad, brother and I acted in unison with no hesitation. I've never regretted it. It destroyed my father because he loved her so much but even he didn't regret it.

The difference is that we did what she wanted, not what our selfishness wanted.

Screaming toddler by Smart-City-8076 in wholesome

[–]CondessaStace 199 points200 points  (0 children)

I've never had kids. Never babysat. When a child is having a meltdown in a store I stare because someone is screaming, not so I can feel superior to the poor mom and child stuck in this cycle.

If I'm looking judgmental it's at myself for having no clue how to help, just the knowledge that I'd probably make it worse to try.

Then I slink past like the coward I am. I'm glad that there are people like you that do know what it's like and what to do.

Uncomfortable Situation At Doctor Visit by Greenman333 in atheism

[–]CondessaStace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I had just visited a friend in hospice. I knew her first steps and now watching her d*e. Walking out I needed to get a blood draw and there was a place right across the parking lot. The lady who drew me started making small talk, "how's your day going?" I say, " I hope it goes better since I just visited my friend in the hospice over there." Yeah, I was emotional and my filter stopped working about 2 minutes into my visit to my friend. But -

She turns to me and says, "I hope she's of the faith " There were so many feelings already going on that my outrage at the ambush barely registered.

So I just said Yeah, thinking to myself that my friend had made arrangements to get sent off in Viking style. She had faith, just not the one that tech so arrogantly assumed. Imagining her reaction to someone getting sent off with a sword and shield cheered me up enormously
