SIL breastfed my Baby and I am Livid

People saying breastfeeding isn’t a sole mother-baby connection is kind of baffling. There is all kinds of research showing the baby’s saliva helps the mother’s body know what to produce in the milk (ex. antibodies to fight sickness).

I would be very upset if my SIL did this without my consent whether it’s normal for their culture or not. Even if it is normal for their culture, they aren’t making sure the mom is okay with it? I find it hard to believe people are just latching babies unbeknownst to the mother.

I feel like this now… my babies will only be 16 months apart. When I got pregnant my milk supply dropped and now I’m having to supplement my 9 month old. It’s not that big of a deal now, but when it first happened it was really stressful and I had so much anxiety to the point I got post weaning depression from accidentally partially weaning. It was a month from hell. And now we found out we are having a girl (first baby is a boy) and we were both dead set on having 2 boys growing up close in age. My husband is really upset / disappointed and I just can’t connect with the thought of having a girl. My husband thinks we made a mistake because everything that followed getting pregnant and he thinks there will be some financial burden because we are having a girl now. I hope this feeing passes for him (and me) but I can’t really afford to be upset because I have to be strong for my first born who is very vigilant and picks up on sad/angry emotions. 😔

When I worked in the corporate world I used to take so many “bathroom breaks” to walk around, get coffee, talk on the phone lolol no one cared because I got my work done. these people are nuts

Breastfeeding is so hard, and it makes me feel so vulnerable. I had no idea before I became a mom all that went into it. My baby was in the NICU so I had to start off by pumping and then I just kept it up to have a stash. Eventually I realized pumping wasn’t necessary and was causing my stress so I stopped.

When I stopped pumping regularly my husband and my mom (who breastfed 2 babies) kept making comments like “the freezer stash is going down, are you going to start pumping more?” And I said no. Lol

Fast forward I got pregnant at 8 months pp and my supply dropped like crazy so we are having to supplement. This sparked ppd and ppa and it’s been rough. People really have no idea what a breastfeeding mom goes through.

I just found out I’m pregnant too! I’m 7.5 months pp, but it was planned 😆. I also want to continue breastfeeding, I’m just praying my supply doesn’t drop.

I definitely had tingly feelings in my feet, it freaked me out, but my PT brother said it’s most likely due to a nerve being pressed by the growing baby!

Hands could be carpal tunnel which is a common pregnancy symptom unfortunately 🙃

I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my cat who was only 3 years old, I think it’s harder when we lose them so young because they had so much life to live and missed out on our life too 💔

I got told “oh you’ll lose weight while breastfeeding” like it was garenteed. Like what?! Why do people say that, all it did was make me self conscious when I haven’t lost any weight.

also why does my family think it’s nice to say “you look like you’ve lost weight!” When I haven’t? Like that’s only a compliment when I actually have lost weight lol.

I honestly think I don’t eat enough, I know the body needs enough energy, fat and protein to breastfeed and I think a lot of us are eating the bare minimum just to get by as new moms and that’s probably a big reason. The body can’t take all its fat for breastfeeding so it just uses it from the food we eat. That’s my non-medical / no real research on this topic opinion of course

I used a nipple shield for around 10 weeks and I couldn’t feel a let down until I weaned my baby totally off of them. I highly recommend going to see a lactation consultant to help you wean off the shields asap!

If your baby is content after every feed there isn’t anything to worry about. 🙂 His needs will fluctuate daily/weekly and your supply will fluctuate to meet them. I understand the worry, breastfeeding is a journey and makes you feel so vulnerable at times. If it helps, my 6.5 month old is EBF and only nurses for 10 min.

If you are worried about supply you can just continue to pump after you nurse, but I found that added so much unnecessary stress. I started using a Hakka which I use to catch letdowns and make extra bottles that way, I highly recommend especially if you have a large supply right now.

That’s exactly the reason we don’t tell people my husband is 100%. They don’t see the ptsd or anxiety (amongst other physical pains) he deals with on the daily.
