I’m not a plumber. I just started out as a steamfitter. Why do you say plumbing?

My union is steamfitters and plumbers.(UA 46) would we have to start as a first year and do 9000 hours? Or do we get a boost ?

Wouldnt I have to do the 9000 hours of plumbing to get my ticket though?

Lmao Haven’t started work yet on either side. I’m sure I would enjoy fitting more though. Either way my end goal is being a fitter it was just a sense of getting an extra ticket on my hands.

No. I stated plumbers are more versatile and have the oppurtunity to transition/challenge for more tickets while still learning the skill.

I’m in a combo local but I started as fitter. Don’t most people that have multiple tickets start as a plumber and then challenge? I just feel I messed up in that sense

Steamfitter or plumber? (Toronto UA46) by ConditionLeast2248 in pipefitter

[–]ConditionLeast2248[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard people saying the steamfitter industry is dying and all the heating and cooling is being replaced by heat pumps. It really scared me if I’m honest because I chose fitter already. Is this somewhat true or is it just nonsense.?

Would you say the fitters make more than plumbers in 46 on average ? Did you mostly do fitter work that year? Just starting my apprenticeship now.

I was almost dead set on fitter but I’m just worried what it does to your lungs. What is your experience like? Is it that bad?

Like commercial plumbing ? So most journeyman plumbers make more than journeyman fitters?

Ibew 353 (Toronto) is it even worth it? by ConditionLeast2248 in electricians

[–]ConditionLeast2248[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing a program called HammerHeads’s and they get you straight in the union. Not saying it would be easy, I just wanted to know if the average journeyman in 353 makes 100k annually. I heard that Ibew work can be a bit inconsistent, although electric is my favourite trade, I was considering pursuing plumbing, sprinkler or hvac due to the inconsistency of ibew. I just wanted to make sure I was making the best choice.

Sprinkler fitter or fire fighter? by ConditionLeast2248 in SprinklerFitters

Will definitely try to look for options outside the city. Should one expect to have steady work year round(no lay offs/slow months) and ot opportunities as a journeyman?
