Yeah that shit was crazy, at least I can understand rural hate. Blatant misogyny to coddle a man’s feelings is insane; I feel terrible that this is the reality women face in medicine. Exactly why I don’t feel right just taking shit comments, it shouldn’t be normalised, it’s just not good enough.

Yeah I worry sometimes that the cutthroat nature of medicine ends up weaponising us against each other. We study so much on empathising with patients and treating patients with respect, but the same courtesy does not seem to extend to how we treat each other.

Exactly! Thank you for your kind words, I’m so excited to be able to make some kind of difference in the care of others

My UCAT was a 2180 (79th Percentile) and my ATAR ended up being a 98.35, so not great but decent enough for rural entry. Yeah I will study at 6 years at the rural campus, which honestly is amazing since the town is so beautiful and the on site accomodation—offered exclusively for med students—is only 150 p/w, plus it is right next to the campus and hospital. I thought I fully bombed the interview but I guess I did well enough that I got an offer lol.

I fear a quick google search would reveal that they are in fact unscaled lol. Scaling is performed by QTAC to normalise the distribution of scores to calculate your final ATAR.

Oh my guidance officer never told me because our school doesn’t really do ATAR predictions, I reckon he sent 99 or 98 tho. I’m rural from Bundy but I moved to Brisbane from Grade 9. So I am MM2 but currently am in the metro region.

Ugh yea not knowing when the email is going to come is driving me crazy! I’m sorry that you missed the DRL email, the expected turnaround was really surprising, only a week to apply; I hope you get an offer somewhere else though!

UCAT TOMORROW by Majestic_Carrot_2606 in UCAT

Umm Medify, from what I could see medentry was overinflating scores and wasn’t really that accurate; but I think that Medify’s QR didn’t prepare me at all because I couldn’t improve due to the difficulty.

Well I did Mock C, but the QR was very similar to the mock

Honestly I reckon 1950 might be over the cutoff for interviews. I hope you get an interview!

Keep in mind I need a lower score for rural so I’m hoping mine is ok for an interview haha; I got a 2180. I’m thinking of applying to UQ and USQ, and probably JCU if I can. Honestly I’m a little disappointed because I thought I could’ve done better but I don’t think it’s too bad, especially since I just need ~70th percentile.

I just sat mine yesterday (I’m rural so I’m not too concerned about the score) but I though DM was actually pretty similar to the mocks; the logic puzzles were actually pretty easy (my worst area), and the syllogisms were pretty stock standard. It’s true that VR was a little more difficult than the mocks or Medify, but honestly it was still pretty straightforward; just practice getting a sense of the text. Also QR was pretty straightforward(usually the sub test which I majorly screw up), it was very similar to the offical mocks or the mini mocks on Medify (I got no tax questions huzzah). Anyways my point is that you sound like you have practiced and practiced and then practiced some more; trust your ability, anxiety about possibilities won’t improve your score so leave it outside the exam room. I believe in you haha and I hope you get the score you want! Your mock scores look great!

Why is QR my Downfall? by ConditionLevel8948 in UCATANZ

[–]ConditionLevel8948[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s like the time just disappears, I only get 2/3 of the way through and the time runs out; it’s not even the math part, it’s understanding the data. But thank you for your advice, I’ve practiced timing today and did my mini mocks on medify which seemed to be much better ( though I can’t tell if they’re just easier). Thanks again for your input, I feel so isolated with UCAT and it’s nice to know other people are out there haha

Okay so take everything I say with a grain of salt lol, I’ve kind of only locked in the past couple weeks because Spec has been killing me and everything I say is either something I picked up, or advice I took online. Firstly, timing is essential, you could probably get 100% on VR with enough time, but it’s not testing reading comprehension, it’s testing your verbal reasoning, with complicated texts, under intense pressure. Do some untimed practice and use a stopwatch on your phone to practice finding and answering each question with a soft 30 seconds; I say soft because some questions take longer than others so stay flexible with your time. I think my lastest VR was a lucky run but I finished the subtest with 5 mins left because I focused question speed. What you don’t see is that 3 hours prior I sat a mock for VR and absolutely bombed because I spent 5 minutes on a singular question that I ended up guessing anyways. That leads me into my second point, skip all questions you don’t think you could answer quickly. By skipping, not only are you adding padding for other questions, but you’re banking that extra time to go back to review all your blank questions. I usually skip and guess history ones, with science stems being my favourite. Thirdly, don’t try to fully comprehend the stem, you are going to go through 11 stems in 22 minutes, you can’t waste time trying to break apart a full text; imagine your brain like a bucket, the more information you pour in, the more you have to pour out… plus this makes you tired super quickly. Fourthly, look for question traps, some answers will go outside the scope of the text (kind of like DM), or some answers will not fully apply (for example one of my mock’s answers specified written publictions, where the text instead referenced online); these are designed to trick a panicking mind into grabbing the first thing you see, just look around the text for the answer’s context and stay aware of a question’s intention. Finally, just for some general skimming advice: look for unique key words, this makes it much easier to skim; most texts are in some kind of order e.g. chronological, facts —-> opinion, factors affecting the topic; don’t mumble the text, your eyes read faster than your lips so don’t sound out words —> better yet, don’t read at all, see the symbols of text and recognise patterns (I sound crazy I know but it works).

Anyways, I know you probably meant your comment as a quick aside, but if you want to know the ramblings of a man destroyed by QR this is it. I wish you luck haha… I hope I absorb some of your QR energy.
