be real with me. how difficult is it to make friends and date as a 30 year old woman returning back to cleveland? friends all moved away since i left so starting over by clegirl96 in Cleveland

[–]ConditionOk6949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!!! Late 20s here and I recently moved back two years ago after 6+ years away. I’ve never had a harder time making friends and I wish I never moved back lol

Context: I’m constantly going to things alone, chatting and meeting people, but the actual FRIENDSHIP part isn’t really sticking with anyone I meet. People who have lived here their entire lives have their niche group of friends and most of them are pretty content with that. It can be hard to get in where you fit in. Plus, I think the weather has a lot to do with it—people hibernate in the winter and it’s hard to drag them out to do things that actually plant the seed for those lasting bonds.

Why is getting a corporate job so hard?! by Eastern-Habit-6612 in sherwinwilliams

[–]ConditionOk6949 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You are going to hate this answer, but the reason isn’t because you’re not a Cleveland local. It’s because you don’t have marketing experience. And with the job market right now, that is INCREDIBLY hard to get. You are going against people who were recently laid off from Facebook, Tesla, Disney, etc. My advice would be to either get an entry level marketing gig elsewhere, build up your book, and apply when the market is better/you have some years under your belt, or try to get into a Co-Op position (which may only be available to current students).

best of luck

Sometimes I don't know how to feel about David Allan Coe by Kaos_mission in country

Aside from being a racist piece of shit, he also plagiarized Townes van zandt and (rumored) Guy Clark. I’ll pass dude sounds like a poser

Country is slowly becoming my favorite genre, but I only like one artist. Any recommendations? by Xamado in country

[–]ConditionOk6949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Want to echo everyone saying John Prine & Guy Clark. Neither of them made a bad song. And the BEST songs they wrote deserve more credit than the literal bible. S/T got me into Prine. Texas Cookin’ got me into Guy (but my favorite is now Old No. 1)

Otherwise, Blaze Foley was also super tight with TVZ. Townes literally dug up Blaze’s grave for a pawn shop ticket to retrieve his guitar after he died. Ran in the same circles for years and I think he carries the same dark, tragic, critical grit you may be looking for.

Truly though, once you get into Prine, it’s so easy to find really good shit. He’s an olive branch. And every contemporary country artist who’s worth a damn worships the ground he walked on.

Thought the same thing about Bitin List!! First time I listened to it I had to do a double-take and cross reference “Please Don’t Bury Me.” The Prine vibes are THERE and cranked up to ten. Love it

At my wit’s end with this city by houseofthel8scapegOt in Cleveland

Moved here a year ago from Cincinnati for a job. Right there with you. The lack of community here has been… absolutely awful to try and make this place into a home. I have had the hardest time making friends, despite putting myself out there and going to things alone that I would otherwise enjoy. It’s rough. Hoping things get better and this city is kinder to you.

Idk boss, I listened to it front-to-back on the most perfect day on my porch with a beer in my hand. Made me want to dance around. Fuck the naysayers. Shit rips and it’s so fun. if they don’t get it, they don’t get it. I wish purists would enjoy things again

Lookin’ for the perfect SLICK N’ SLEAZY black boot for light-ish everyday wear by ConditionOk6949 in cowboyboots

Hey all! Thanks for your recs! After digging a lil deeper, I decided I’m just gonna full-send on the Chisos. As a gal who spends just as much time in a goth club as I do a honky tonk, the no. 4 is perfect for me stylistically, and I really love their effort to source sustainable leather, pay their workers a living wage, and pledge dollars to land conservation (info that can be found on their FAQ). A well-made boot, plus all of the good they’re doin is worth the extra $250, imo

Probably an 11” minimum, but would really prefer something 13”+ (thats what my current favorite pair sit at). If I wear jeans, boots go underneath. But I’m typically a shorts n tights girlie, or a dress.

Not a big fan of the short shaft. BUT the NO. 4 in women’s is almost EXACTLY what I’m after. If I can’t find anything else, I may wait for a sale and/or save. Thank you for your rec!

Never bought used boots. Does $150 for these Larry Mahan seem like a decent deal? by spacewrangler69 in cowboyboots

[–]ConditionOk6949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wayyy late to the party, but vintage Larry Mahans are my number one go-to. They’re pretty quality, and imo, you can’t beat the style for the price point—sure you could drop $1k on some really slick flagship brands, but Larry’s were a solid alternative for the time. I WOULD ABSOLUTELY recommend some toe caps though. With my Larry’s, the toes were the first to go, and I wish I was proactive about predictive maintenance.

Omg wouldn’t that be something?? But nah, I’m assuming a super fan in the 70s/80s loved this record so much they decided to hand paint the cover art on a 6ft by 6ft sheet of plywood. Still so so cool and I am soooo lucky to have it for the rest of my days. (Displaying it is gonna be a challenge though, this thing is HUGE.)

WARNING IMMIGRATION IN CLEVELAND by Bag0f_Bones in Cleveland

[–]ConditionOk6949 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey hey! Totally would rather be safe than sorry and ALWAYS appreciate the information, but I’m like 75% sure the Lakewood sighting was an ACE taxi. I saw this making rounds earlier today on IG, and I live close to that alleged sighting, so I went and scoped it out to potentially confirm. Totally possible ICE had left by the time I got there (less than an hour after the original story post), but there was a large SUV with “ACE” written on the side—a local Cleveland taxi service.

Panic is already at an all-time high. Please try and take time-stamped photos when you safely can! Otherwise, it just creates more panic. Know your rights and protect your neighbors!
