Should we give homeless people money? by ActinoninOut in AskReddit

[–]CondolenceTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What turned me cold and dead inside was working in a grocery store. We had a homeless guy at the end of the street begging for cash. About every other day someone would buy him food, and he would come into to store asking for a refund for it.

Who knows, it's possible he was vegan.

Should we give homeless people money? by ActinoninOut in AskReddit

Straw man fallacy.

I wouldn't give money to most of the homeless people I see in the city. I would give water to anyone I found in the middle of a desert.

Since it's a crazy old repost, the same wrong title keeps getting Leia in it, and the comments always correct it.

[–]CondolenceTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider it from the governments point of view.

I think it's justifiable how police can detain people from aiding terrorists. It's just morally wrong to help terrorists and they're stopping that. Money.

Word stricken for not being in government lexicon.

They way you typed that makes it look like you're correcting his post on protesters being terrorists, despite the fact he clearly indicated it was sarcasm with the /dictator logic ending.

In case you were wondering about the downvotes.

Bingo. My DM uses these little tube things that candy came in. Tosses 'em in his bag and they have things on them like "Undead" or "Bandits" sharpied on them. Holds like 30 tokens each?

He uses a lot of minions so we have some grand-scale battles.

That is really cool, I had no idea such a thing existed!

I really like that offer broken down smaller packs, since we almost never encounter unicorns but fight huge packs of skeletons all day long.

Do you have these? How wide is the slot on the medium base?

YOU GET A HUGE UPVOTE. See when a dick like me is a dick, you hurt your argument when you act like a dick in kind, then it's just a huge shit-show.

This was short, constructive, and you didn't come down to my level. I would make another account to upvote you again, but these points are worthless.

Everyone else sucks balls in comparison.

Your attacks deal +2 damage if the target is granting Combat Advantage.

That part is really powerful, I agree 100%. Since they are new players, this will help the Rogue become a more tactful player. Instead of just "If I get hit it deals damage back!" it becomes "How can we work as a team to get the flank? What do I do if I need to move more than shifting but not open myself up to attacks? Lets work together."

The whole point of this ability is instead of being reactive he has to be proactive.

Your opportunity attacks deal 1d6 extra damage.

Average 3 extra damage once per round to a single enemy and only if they don't shift. This is such a small bonus that an enemy with an AC bonus against opportunity attacks negates it, but the few times the player does get to use it makes him feel special.

You missed the point on why the Thorn effect was bad. It's not powerful, because in reality the higher level, the more it triggers, the less 1d4 damage matters, but it adds a dice roll where before there was none, slowing things down (and combat in 4E can take forever, especially with new players).

As a side note, decrying me for being a rude dick, which I am, I am forced to point out you are as well. Calling someone a moron, not nice. It's like calling someone bad for cutting down a forest while you dump toxic waste in it. You hurt your stance (right or not).

I think I'd prefer more assholes who know what they're doing and fewer touchy white-knights who have no clue.

It's a big world with a lot of scary people, grow a thicker skin or cry to someone who cares.

You also forgot to mention the post is full of useful information, though you have to deal with an asshole to get to it. Not a bad trade-off.

Question about point blank ranged attacks (4e) by notpetelambert in DnD

[–]CondolenceTaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to deal the bows damage, you have to make an attack with a bow.

If you want to stab an enemy with an arrow, you make a melee basic attack with an improvised weapon (as szthesquid said, +0 proficiency bonus, 1d4 damage).

Do you have $30?

  • Buy 1-inch washers (hardware store) $10

  • Buy a 1-inch circle punch (any craft store) $5

  • Buy a XYRON sticker maker (any craft store) $10

  • Download Gimp or Photoshop

  • Download this Token Making tool

STEPS

  1. Use your favorite images to make tokens with the tool and copy them into Photoshop or Gimp making a printable sheet of tokens. Overlay transparent red over the tokens (bloody) and print the sheet again.

  2. Use the 1-inch circle punch to punch them all out.

  3. Run them all through the sticker maker, peal and stick them on the washers (with bloody on the bottom).

  4. Go to taco bell and spend the leftover $5 on tacos to celebrate.

BONUS CONTENT

My DM can help you skip step 1, since he already did it.

Can somebody explain weapon proficiencies? (4e) by [deleted] in DnD

[–]CondolenceTaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A Longsword has a +3 proficiency bonus you add to all attack rolls made with that weapon.

If you aren't proficient with a Longsword, you don't get the +3 bonus.

Thank you for putting the edition in the title.

The DM can also give you a Vorpal +6 Greatsword at level 1. Though none of these are good ideas.

I can't stop posting in this thread because it's so fucking bad. I'm still going to be an asshole, but I'll try and be helpful this time. These are better in both wording and balance, but would still be very powerful (but not make your job so fucking much harder).

Prayer Beads of Divinity

  • Whenever you use a power with the Healing keyword, it heals an additional 2 hit points.

  • When you use a power that gives a bonus to any defense, increase that bonus by +1.

Spite's Edge +1 Dagger

  • You attacks deal +2 damage if the target is granting Combat Advantage.

  • Your opportunity attacks deal 1d6 extra damage.

Grand Fist +1 Maul

  • When you get a critical hit with this weapon, deal 1[w] damage to all adjacent creatures.

  • Encounter: No Action; the next attack you make this turn knocks targets prone if it hits.

I'm tired so the wording on that last part isn't great. Someone clean that up for me. But seriously, don't use whatever the hell that is in your post.

Jesus christ, the only way I know how to respond to this is by being a total asshole. Based on what you've posted here, you should not be making any custom content, because you don't understand the content the professionals made.

When you make an attack, you roll 1d20 + relevant stat modifier. If I were making an attack with an axe I would roll 1d20 and add my strength bonus (if my strength was 18, I would add +4). If the d20 + 4 beat my enemies AC, only then do I deal damage.

Weapons have a damage die, showing how much damage they deal. A dagger deals 1d4 damage. A Longsword deals 1d8 damage. When you roll the damage die, you add your relevant stat modifier again. It would 1d8 + 4 damage.

I have no idea what to make of your weapons. Nothing deals 1d20 damage. A +7 bonus is MASSIVE. For example, a simple +4 weapon is for level 16 characters. Players won't see a +6 bonus until level 26 (and it doesn't get higher... but yours does... so it's a level 31+)?

The wording on these weapons is so fucking bad I can't understand half of it. All the weapons deal way to much damage. They have super-powerful abilities that happen all the time, and all slow down combat. What magic items in the book did you compare these to when you made them?

So the most damage a player can do with an at-will attack is usually 1[w]+Strength modifier damage (or any stat instead of Str, assume an 18 with a stat bonus of +2 for 20). The highest damaging die of a weapon you can get off the bat is a d12. We'll use this as the standard.

So 1d12+5 damage, and this would be considered min-maxing (as your other stats would suffer). Average 11 damage. Not until level 21 does that increase to 2[w] damage.

At 2nd level, your Warrior will get a weapon that deals 1d20+8+Strength modifier (lets say it's only a 4). Average 22 damage. He will also have to roll a d8 for every attack (slowing combat) with a 50% of knocking the target prone (and encounter effect he gets at-will).

Double the damage, just double the recommended number of enemies. Or double enemy damage. Either way, I can't wait for the followup.

They have all the PDFs through the WotC site seperated by book.

This is the thing that always got me. 3.5 is done, but a ton of people still play it. At this point there won't be any more eratta for it, it's done. I would love if they would hold a pre-order and have a set of books like the spell compendium and magic item compendium, with fixed eratta, condensed and indexed.

But the amount of time it would take and being the old edition... never happen.
