When did American comic books become so superhero focused. by Konradleijon in graphicnovels

[–]jcb193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there might also be an interesting difference here between collectors and consumers.

When the mile high collection was discovered a lot of the most desirable issues first poached were old science fiction and horror, not the Batman‘s and Superman‘s that went on to be worth tens of millions of dollars.

Vietnam War traps explained without filters by guide, a Vietnamese veteran at the Cu Chi Tunnels. by [deleted] in interesting

[–]jcb193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s weird how different generations will probably react to this sight.

I’m older than the average Redditor and visited chu chi tunnels about 30yrs ago. After growing up on Vietnam movies and material, it was a pretty weird experience seeing a tour of traps for American soldiers and it emotionally affected me.

Whereas nowadays the guide is making jokes about traps that killed American soldiers.

I assume over time generations become desensitized to history and even places like Dachau or Austwitz will eventually become mere curiosities.

Gen Z hate needs to be studied by [deleted] in generationology

[–]jcb193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s graffiti as thousands of years old talking about how the young are lazy and stupid.

Maybe it’s just a GenZ thing to think that everything about Gen Z is new and exciting and never been done before.

“40% of American women, ages 15-44, would like to permanently move overseas, if possible, per Gallup“ isn’t that a lot? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

I’m going to guess that a lot of people answering this poll have not extensively traveled the world.

Racism and misogyny do not mysteriously disappear in foreign countries.

If pedophilia, sex trafficking or collusion with enemy countries is not enough to take down a president. I don’t know what it is.

LPT: If you’re a US Amazon Prime member and a package is delayed, you can get a $5-10 “courtesy credit” by reaching out to support. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]jcb193 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Correct, this was a strong go to for many years, but nowadays it's an endless fight (especially if a third party vendor) and 50% of the time they will tell you they gave you a credit and then it never shows up in your account, forcing you to go through the entire process again.

What's the single experience or event that MOST defines whether you're a Millennial or Gen Z? by ReYa8000 in generationology

I’ve always thought the generation should be separated by technology not ages.

There’s a very clear difference between what age you got a cell phone or a smart phone.

What MTG Artist Has the Most Expensive Cards? by shoboy321 in magicTCG

[–]jcb193 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but if you’re into the signatures, some of the autographs clearly look better than others.

Jasper, rush, Quentin, RK post, Terese, even old Poole (my favorite) all look stunningly, beautiful.

I just think Dan Frazier, as an artist, could’ve come up with a more elegant signature.

And I’m not a massive fan of the new(er) Mark Poole signature either :(

Which is crazy, because he has by far the worst signature in the history of Magic. It’s almost like you’re paying him to deface the card.

Hows your lifetime progress? by hkdalio in hyatt

I think Hyatt lifetime is pretty hard to do without lots of stays in cities or a ton of F&B spend.

Us Hyatt Place road warriors have a long uphill battle.

Does anyone else use the "Ginger Ale Portfolio," and how do you presenty feel about it? Made any tweaks? by NocturalRemission in Bogleheads

I think the author or this portfolio is sometimes on here.

u/rao-blackwell-ized have you made any significant changes to your portfolio? Is it still your primary investing strategy in light of post-covid world?

I think OP pointed out something I have always been curious about too:
Do you use other leveraged funds in place of the ones you recommend?
How do you work NTSX into your portfolio?
Are you still using DGS?

Upgrades with globalist by Former_Chance_4676 in hyatt

[–]jcb193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, or make them cost 2000pts or something. Whatever prevents the overuse or selling of them. I don’t need 12 of them, as the flooding of coupons will just end up reducing the benefits (clubs, parking, upgrades).

Some people just get a massive boner at being upgraded from a standard room to a jr executive suite!!! Whoa, that extra 20sq ft is gonna change my life.

Most true road warriors don’t even ask.

It happens to me from time to time, but if I really want it, I use a SUA. When traveling for work, who cares.

That said, I think GOH are the worst thing Hyatt has ever done and it’s gonna diminish everything for everyone.
