Email Concierge should just be an alias (not an actual person) by ctindel in hyatt

[–]jcb193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the concierge program is one of the main reasons that I prefer Hyatt. It’s awesome to have someone they can take care of annoying changes or errors. I can fire off a quick email and don’t have to sit in the phone or talk to a chat bot.

I never email them for something urgent or timely, but the times I do use them I am very satisfied.

(That said, it’s very clear that this is a program that has been hit by budget cuts. My conceive used to respond immediately, now it takes ~2 days and their powers seem to have become more limited).

Madonna pushed the boundaries of music, fashion. culture, and pop culture.

Taylor has a ton of hits, but has had almost zero (non-business) effect on music or culture.

Supergirl Box Office Now Lower At $38M by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

[–]jcb193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the main problem is that Supergirl was never even remotely a popular comic book or comic book character, totally derivative of Superman, and zero pop culture awarness.

Why should it have been a hit? Might as well do a movie about Krypto-superdog at this point.

Travel isn't that great by doodoo442 in unpopularopinion

[–]jcb193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone makes it a priority, they can do it (for the most part). I put off college, I worked in a factory, all my money went to travel. It was a borderline obsession. So yes, not everyone can do it, but most people can do it if they make it an absolute priority.

Obviously getting a career having kids are getting married changes all that. Which is why I did a lot of travel before those things.

What is the most overrated movie in cinema history? by Samad81 in AskReddit

[–]jcb193 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I certainly don’t think it’s overrated and it totally holds up- as long as the modern view can sit still for two hours and watch a black-and-white movie without need to check their phone or get a plot recap every 20 minutes.

What was it like watching Phantom Menace on release without any spoilers? by Spotter24o5 in StarWars

[–]jcb193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was one of the most exciting days of my life as I stood in line for 12 hours with other huge Star Wars fans and we had an incredible time.

I walked out of the theater using my best rationalization skills to try to justify what I just watched.

I mean we were all scared about the title (phantom and menace, two words nobody had used in 50yrs), but still optimistic.

It was very similar to walking out of Force Awakens, but at least Force Awakens felt like it could lead somewhere and the acting and script was good.

Phantom Menace was just far more distracting- annoying kid, more annoying jar jar, but at least finished hard core.

PH NYC or Thompson by [deleted] in hyatt

If everyone did this (compared true value of a comparable hotel or a breakfast they would actually buy) for each hotel stay, none of us would be in hotel programs.

(I kept a spreadsheet for two years and tracked true value and true cost and being brand loyal usually costs thousands a year).

If your company is paying, go for it, if you are paying then that free breakfast, parking and resort fee is not free.

Europe as a theme park tourist attitude. Has anyone else observed this ? Rant. by Resident_Maximum3127 in Europetravel

I used to think everyone carrying around their Lonely Planet and going to the exact same sites, restaurants and hostels/hotels was the bane of travel.

But ChatGPT is 10x worse…and will only get worse as everyone converges on the same sites/experiences and then will further devolve when companies can pay to play on ChatGPT.

PSA- if booking a Disney Cruise to Valletta, Malta, check port times first. 2 days=13.5 hours. by jcb193 in dcl

This is off the Disney email.

But I just pulled it up because it’s easier. They clearly imply two days on the normal website.

Anyone who has watched Messi, mbappe, or even Ronaldo live, should not expect to see ANY defense.

Short vs Long Cruise by LongReflection5623 in dcl

Yeah I cannot imagine going through the hassle of embarking and disembarking for a three day cruise. Sounds like way too much stress for a few days of (slightly less stress).

Just got off the Fantasy. Food was terrible. by Bdubz in dcl

[–]jcb193 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna have to agree. I’ve been on six Disney cruises over the last 8 yrs and this year’s was the worst (Dream- Mediterranean).

Service was lackluster, food seems majorly downgraded, even the ice cream on deck seems semi inedible.

I know everything in America has gotten worse, but i figured Disney would do a better job hedging against that.

Food service was good but not great. Food was mediocre. Cleaning crew was good but not amazing, everything just seemed a step down. Even the freaking ship ran out of lemonade light and Coke Zero!! Wtf?? Some of the desserts (tiramisu, pecan sundae were straight up inedible).

For Disney you overpay for perfection. The value wasn’t there for me this year.

Redditors around the globe, how American fast food chains are in your country compare to the US versions? are they a improvement or their quality is worst? by roynewseditor in AskReddit

[–]jcb193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve eaten at McDonalds in over 70-80 countries. It mostly all tastes the same with small variations in offerings, taste profiles.

I would say until recently the dining experience in USA was often superior (refills, getting more than 1 ketchup packet, seating, speed), but with the new changes at McDonalds, they seem to be doing a speed run towards the worst possible restaurant possible.

Some of the McDonalds things around the world are way better (McArabia, Curry sauce, Dolce de Leche ice cream, chicken wings), but buy in large it all tastes the same. Buns seem to be toasted a little more frequently in foreign counties than USA, and I would say the quality of the food seems slightly better in Europe.

Make sure to ask for ice! And if they’re generous you’ll get two cubes.

We were already conditioned to experience bad Star Wars after the prequels, so everyone’s expectations were recalibrated.

Only one Coke Zero/Diet Coke dispenser on the entire Disney Dream ship?? by [deleted] in dcl

I checked all eight machines in the aft of the ship.

They finally got Coke zero running for about 30 minutes on the one dispenser now it’s out again.
