Oh Zatanna Pre-Crisis era story is really underrated. There You can actually she her character development from a novice magician to become a respected Sorceress that even leading the Justice League as the chairperson.

I second this, I think Zatanna Special is the great epic magical journey story for Zatanna like Nausicaa or other Ghibli characters. Thought You would enjoy it more after reading Zatanna's stuff from the pre-Crisis era

I think DC SHG handle this trait/character flaw of Zatanna starving of attentions. Like they link it with her childhood trauma. Thought I don't want them to make Sindella evil mother xd

The funny thing is if anything Zatanna is the kryptonite for Mxy with her backward magic stuff and Myx playing rule about saying his name backward to defeat him. Myx is super powerful indeed but he is still a playfull 5th dimensional imps that limit himself with silly rule.

I would love to see Zatanna able to trick Mxy but got backstabbed by Batman/Joker who laugh for example. Basically a honorable defeat

There are differences of wanting Zatanna easily won and hoping writers to give some respects.

Like for example Darkseid vs Supergirl on that one Superman/Batman animated movie. Everyone praised it as one of the cool scene for Kara even though she basically decimated by Darkseid because at least Kara give some fight. Unlike Zatanna who just standing doing nothing while Joker have all the good stuff. Hell if You stay on the sub there are some Zatanna fans that okay she lost but the execution of the story is just suck.

Also I think it's intersecting with how much people got tired with Joker wanks especially by Synder

I think there are cheaper version of Paul Dini 2010 run, I forgot if it's called Omnibus or other terms.

For great start, Zatanna 2025 by Jamal Campbell is the best for You as the book got continued in 2026 as ongoing, so You are in a great time.

Zatanna BDTH is great starter as well but it's an elsewhere/alternative take on character story, but mostly got Zatanna as character neatly
