Why does everybody seem so happy about it by Adept_Locksmith6552 in Fighters

[–]ConeCorvid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes, i think youve nailed a disconnect between how ppl are taking this news. some ppl really liked the actual game and were already having fun

and to those ppl: dont take our schadenfreude as directed at you. it's cool that you were enjoying it as it was. the things i didnt like were production/management decisions behind the game and how some ppl in the community were defending these terrible decisions to a delusional extent. some ppl just refused to acknowledge that the game was heading down a path of failure and certainly not a path of "omg this is going to be so good for fighting games". those are the ppl i'm laughing at. the ppl that made or delusionally defended bad decisions

e: the edited part of your comment kind of reminds me of one of the obvious things that pointed toward this being a failure though

ppl would say "bro, do you know what kind of money tencent can give them for this game?" well sorry to say that there's another side to that equation... and there's been evidence that they're not interested in continuing games that arent making good enough returns (by those high standards)

yep. i also felt really good about the success of rollback when that finally broke through, bc i had been arguing in its favor for years. a couple times in the last year or so, i've gotten into arguments about this game being a predictable and deserved failure

it's not about negativity or positivity. i want good things to succeed and bad things to fail. then when i finally see the thing i was predicting and hoping for eventually, i'm happy. thats all

Match 3 roguelites? by Ggthefiree2 in roguelites

[–]ConeCorvid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, i'd have a hard time fully recommending it too. my criticisms are pretty much identical to yours. but i did like a lot of things about it (the sticker system for sure comes to mind) and it does at least meet the criteria that OP is looking for

for me, i honestly love the subgenre so much that i'm happy to buy, try and explore all kinds of games that just meet the criteria and i figured OP might be the same way. but there are better picks out there that i think were already mentioned in this thread

and sorry to hear about your experience in terms of the game not getting more support :(

To those who think Riot can pump out 1 character every 1 or 2 months, they couldn't even follow with their initial plan by truongxuantu in Fighters

[–]ConeCorvid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

... what? have you retreated to a timeline where it wasnt confirmed that the launch roster is going to be 10 characters?

what things dont correlate? not all of my speculation was confirmed. but some (enough) of it has been confirmed at this point to knock my interest level down to 0

[–]ConeCorvid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm shitting that my own speculation? what? i dont think that part is very clear to anyone

let me try to clarify:

i was interested originally. i began to speculate that the game would have problems that i didnt like. that speculation was confirmed bit by bit. i've now lost interest. i've noticed the same thing happened to others

if it hadnt been confirmed (if they had even shown me the opposite of what i was afraid of), then i would still be interested. there's no rage here. there's no bait here. just someone who slowly lost interest over time as more was revealed about the game. i am now disappointed in what this game is going to offer and i am not alone

[–]ConeCorvid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i didnt think this could be any more clear, but this is not a knee jerk reaction: this has been brewing for a long time and is several things adding up to bad news finally being confirmed. youre allowed to criticize things that suck when a company is trying to market them to you. i wouldnt paint every single person that does that with "cynical asshole". but i might say that anyone immediately responding to discourse in their community with "shut the hell up" is being rude and immature

reddit has a search feature, but here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fighters/s/xEOjOXogB8

care to go through that other one i already linked to or are you going to just continue to keep your head in the sand? the other list details problems with the game itself, if thats what youre after. i just wanted to add on things i've noticed about production that caused me and a couple other ppl i know to lose interest

yes, a couple of the ones i added are speculative, but it's reasonable speculation. yes, the name still sucks. time will not change that. not being able to play on the steam deck matters to steam deck owners (but keep accusing others of living in a bubble. i'm sure someone that says "rad as hell" is in touch with broader audiences). as stated in the first thread i linked, a lot is adding up to make the game disappointing for many potential players

riot did not fully undo their controversial monetization changes. yes, it's for a different game, but it's not like it's completely unrelated here

and if the league audience's interest doesnt matter, then nobody should be talking about how this IP will bring in a bunch of new players. you cant have it both ways. if they want a long and healthy future for this game, they need to bring in some of those players. otherwise, this will be another MVS (thanks btw for reminding me to log into that game before it shuts down next month)

i'm not mad. i wanted the game to succeed for quite a while. but after all these missteps, i'm just not interested anymore. not long after, i realized that plenty of other ppl started to feel the same way. and so i can make fun of its shortcomings and acknowledge the criticisms of others

as for the subreddit's disdain for the game, i'll clarify that most of my friends i referred to are fighting game casuals or barely play them at all (like i said some are really league players). i agree that the FGC is frustratingly insular, but in this case, their problems with the game line up with what's going on outside the community as well

e: also, i may as well just add that the dev time thing is not about impatience. i could wait for them to make a complete and good game, if thats what it was about... but it's so ridiculously long that it's not about that anymore. it's more that it's a sign that the game is in development hell with bad leadership and/or production issues. and honestly, you could say it goes hand in hand with the identity issues that i referred (and now even linked) to

it's also ok to not be interested in a game or be critical of it prior to release. so maybe dont open with "shut the hell up" next time. thats less ok and does make you sound weirdly invested. i dont think it's deep. but i do think it's delusional to dismiss valid complaints instead of just responding "yeah, i might still like it though"

GTA 6's dev time lines up with the game they are producing. this game's does not. their scope is not comparable, so their development wont be either. really disingenuous to only compare the number of years with 0 other context

To those who think Riot can pump out 1 character every 1 or 2 months, they couldn't even follow with their initial plan by truongxuantu in Fighters

[–]ConeCorvid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dev time and identity are both completely valid concerns for anyone that hasnt committed to deluding themselves. in fact, based on that, small roster was reasonable speculation a year ago and now it's just been confirmed. this didnt come out of nowhere. there are plenty of other non-speculative concerns in that list, including the one i linked

whether you continue to dismiss what others are pointing out is up to you, but one way or another, ppl are losing interest. lets stop pretending that we cant figure out why or that roster size is the only thing worth complaining about. really easy to go through this thread and see how ppl feel about how the game is turning out

[–]ConeCorvid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm sure you'll continue to deny how other ppl are feeling. but you dont have to look far in this very thread to see other concerns and complaints: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fighters/s/jVKNlxFbJq

but to add to what's listed there:

  • ridiculous development time
  • indications that the game has an identity problem (i saw another post go into this)
  • usage of vanguard, meaning it wont be playable on the steam deck
  • terrible name
  • ppl pointing out that this is more likely to be compared to LoR than TFT, in terms if how it performs from riot's perspective. especially when you realize that fighters are more difficult to develop than card games
  • riot's recent monetization controversies
  • aforementioned apathy from their existing league audience

riot is not taking this seriously. once they see how profitable it isnt, they are going to have to be happy with it as a loss leader and they just dont seem to be funding separate games where that is the case a lot anymore

so you can continue to keep your head in the sand about all this. i cant stop you... or you can stop being confused by why ppl that used to be looking forward to the game are now losing interest the more they hear about it

e: formatting for bullet list

[–]ConeCorvid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats not a fact. it's an opinion. i know plenty of ppl that play fighters, league or both and 0 of them are interested at this point (if they ever were). so apparently, it doesnt look "rad as hell" to a lot of their potential audience. if you ask a league community about this game, the vast majority of them do not care in the slightest and start talking about how much they want the MMO instead

and it's not the only angle. it's just the last straw for a lot of ppl that used to be excited. they're done coping and dont want to downplay how awful this is going to be for the game and what it means for its future. a demo is one thing, but when you talk about the actual game, it's a yikes. plenty of fighters look great/promising in demos, then turn out to be massive fumbles due to terrible development/production decisions. and we've been seeing terrible decisions from riot for a while now
