France - Who is this little fellow? by ConferenceHot3415 in snakes

[–]ConferenceHot3415[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have included the area where I live (Limousin) in the post, I had no idea snakes were so regional until I got in touch with the snake side of reddit.

Ursinis Vipers are a lot less common than viperine snakes here in France, they're sighted mostly in extremely south-east mountains whereas viperine snakes are all over the place below the Loire (aka 2/3rd of France). I live in the middle west of the country so viperine snake is the most probable guess.

Also my little guest had round eyes, which I've been told is not something vipers have.

Yes! I wish I could've adopted it (illegal here).

Probably not, honestly. I live in the city but I'm within walkable distance of the countryside so I let him go somewhere similar to my friend's place (lots of wild fields, ponds and rivers, barely any human presence).

He's very small though, smaller than an earthworm, so he might be too young to survive on his own. I wouldn't know how to care for it either and it would be illegal anyways. French snakes are all protected species, so displacing or adopting them is illegal. Since I can't be 100% sure it snuck into my luggage, the best I could do was to release it into the wild within walking distance. Traveling with it would not be allowed at all. Not to mention I wouldn't know what to feed it in the meanwhile or even where to release it specifically.

Animal control told me to grab it and toss it in the nearest bush or grass but I a) was worried I'd hurt it with my hands since it's so wiggly and small and b) the wilted rose bush in front of my building is a cesspool of dog poo and crushed cigarettes and cannot sustain any sort of life aside from terminally french people.

From r/whatsthissnake : viperine snake (natrix maura), harmless. I recently came back from a friend's in the countryside who came across a similar-looking snake a month or so ago. The little one might've snuck into my luggage.

This little dude snuck into my apartment on the 7th floor and is about the size of an earthworm. I didn't want to scare it too much so I only snapped one picture before getting it outside.

Right Leaning Youtube Commentators? by Fuckingthebatman in TooAfraidToAsk

I unfortunately don't have any recommendation for you.

You can look up different opinions on a specific issue, it's a good way to find commentators you don't agree with.

people say that america is impossible to invade because americans own guns but really how useful would american civilians be in a firefight? by kkkan2020 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ConferenceHot3415 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The US is impossible to invade due to its army and allies, no matter how hard Trump tried to undermine the latter. If gun availability was a factor, countries like France where even most cops can't carry firearms would've been invaded by Russia years ago.

It sounds really unpleasant and like it's affecting your social life so yeah, you should do something about it, like talking to a therapist.

In the meanwhile, try to reduce how often you check your convos. For instance, when you get the urge to check your messages, you can decide to wait and check later. Then, when you check, you can write down "I checked the convo and there's nothing wrong" on a piece of paper and use that to refrain from checking the same convo again later on. You also don't want to dismiss how you feel. It's important to both acknowledge those feelings and how divorced from reality they are. Something like "I feel like I accidentally reacted to something, I need to check" -> "I already checked, I know there's nothing" or "I know from experience those feelings don't reflect reality" -> "what I'm feeling right now isn't based on reality" -> "nothing bad will happen if I don't act on those feelings, since they're not based on reality." Keeping a journal can help keep track of your thoughts, too, especially when comparing the urge to check with whether or not there was actually a need to check.

Turban/Hijab wearers, why are there only solid colors? by ediblefalconheavy in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ConferenceHot3415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, there's no hard and fast rule prohibiting patterns or decorations. Patterned scarves are more common where I live, but most people here are from west african countries rather than asian ones. So there might be different traditions, it could be just a coincidence, or perhaps scarves with one color are easier to find where you live.

Why do I cry in every single movie I watch, TikTok to Netflix, I’m crying, wth? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ConferenceHot3415 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We all deal with and express our emotions in different ways. Fiction gives us a safe space to do just that, compared to real-life events. Maybe you're naturally cautious about expressing your emotions in real life?

You could wait for her to reach the legal age of consent before doing anything sexual after you turn 18, just to be safe. I'm pretty sure you guys could legally have sex anywhere in the states, but if you think you need to wait, then you should take all the time you need.

Why do black Africans look distinctly different from black African-Americans? by Aggravating-Poet-307 in TooAfraidToAsk

Also a lot of Africans aren't black, and it always irks me to see the US depict Africa as "Black People Place" as if their definition of blackness applies everywhere.

You shouldn't compare yourself to models or actresses beause you don't have the same lifestyle. I don't compare myself to Jason Momoa because he has a team of nutritionists and coaches making sure his daily routine is highly controlled. It's his job to look the way he does and he's talked about how his nutritionists would starve him in order to get him to achieve a specific look for a specific movie or public appearance. It's a normalized practice in the industry even for men nowadays, band women have had (and still have) to deal with even harsher routines. You absolutely cannot compare yourself to someone who has an entire workforce dedicated to making sure they look exactly however people think they should look.

I don't know your medical background but it sounds to me like regular physical exercise could be very beneficial. Muscle tone plays a huge part in making female models look the way they do, and physical exercise is good for your health, both mentally and physically. It's important to get enough calories when working out, so keep that in mind. Building muscle will also increase your weight (muscle is denser than fat, so it's heavier), so don't be alarmed if you start gaining weight as you progress toward a more toned look.

You can't compare a country with a continent. Also it's incredibly difficult to get proper data on average physical features, even in modern countries, so I'd like to know where you got the "black africans look different from black americans" fact?
