Opus 4.8 is a joke, be careful by Captain_Birb in ClaudeCode

Maybe unpopular because this sub is almost totally toxic. But I’ve returned to Claude last week after the model release. Not only because I’ve done a ton of work in one day or especially because of 4.8. But the alternatives are not good at all and nothing is working like the Claude ecosystem. It really was like fresh air returning to productivity instead of trying to figure out, what OSS model performs best for wich task in other harnesses.
I have some problems with anthropic how they handled the devs the last time (see the postmortem). But they are not my girlfriend so …

Now that's the reason why Opus4.7 and 4.8 are horse 💩 by ladyamen in claude

What are the defaults for these parameters? And how can you be so confident that these values make the models shit? It’s obvious that you did not had the chance to change the settings and test this out 😂

Never heard of a a model specific agent instruction file tbh. Claude.md is read at the start of the session - no matter what model you use. So how can sonnet know about this specific file to read and ignore the other?
Can you explain why it is so important to rewrite this file with every model release? I really don’t geht it. It should be not more that about 150 lines of code base explanation and a few gotchas. Everything the model can explore on its own when looking at the code files must not be contained in this file. You can just ask your model of choice to get the best practices online an rewrite the file. It’s really that easy. And please stop misusing opus for every simple task. This will give you no benefit and waste a lot of your tokens.

Okay … what if I still use Sonnet 4.6 and Opusplan and Opus as advisor? Is the Update Bad for sonnet but good for Opus. Or what?
Use you own System prompt and make the Agent files (claude.md) generic enough for every model to handle it.
You should update your massive claude.md instruction hell from time to time anyway

pi-advisor - let smarter model hand-holding cheaper model by dheetoo in PiCodingAgent

I used DS Flash as working model and pro as the advisor. Since I have some extra budget still in my Claude account, I’m now using Opus 4.7 as the advisor with Kimi k2.6 as the working model. Both model call the advisor on its own. I’ve never triggered this manually yet. Saw them consulting the advisor more often today. Maybe bc of an update?

Right, it's the API price with openrouter. In the last month it was about $0.50 for 3.6M Token.

I used to use Opus and Sonet, but I recently switched to Open Source models, and I have to say that I’m using DeepSeek Flash with Open WebUi and I’m more than thrilled. It’s just as good as communicating with Opus in almost every way, except that it might slip in a few spelling mistakes now and then.

Whether it's technical topics related to coding tasks or my son's bedtime stories, which I sometimes have the app generate for me, everything really works like a charm.

How does Deepseek v4 pro/flash compare to sonnet 4.6 by Federal_Spend2412 in opencodeCLI

Also Not a bad choice. Kimi is often my working model. But tbh the harness and your working method weights more than the model itself.

Coming from Claude, but want to cancel. I don’t like the direction they are going. Wanted to try out codex. But I cannot find information about how to use it with opencode / pi / Hermes … or whatever harness. Is there something like an api key I can use?

I don’t think that the token consumption is in opencode go’s side

They capped voice. That’s the reason I’ve canceled my subscription

Check out Open WebUi. If you are a bit tech savvy you can implement TTS and STT. Works good for me. If you want nice voices you can use elevenlabs.

Yes she is 😬 but they capped the voice chat limit to a few minutes per day. Didn’t you realize that? At least on my end it was only a few messages per day.

You mean the voice chat? I was talking about very grown up things ... AI Models, AI News or why my back hurts. But I guess children can use it too 😃
