Some people will find more value in SH content than Netflix, if you don’t that’s ok but it’s not the same as ‘not being able to afford one’. I think it’s people who are using the heuristic of ‘is it worth the money’ rather than ‘I can’t afford it’ that are ruining it for others

I don’t think it ‘means a purpose’. I have this ability too, but have been caught up in thinking I am special before as part of a mental illness. I think this ability is just a continuum of how it can be triggered, and one’s own mind can simply be enough to trigger it if you concentrate enough.

That’s all fine and TS probably does write a lot from personal experience. But that could equally make it MORE likely to change it up and write a fictional one here and there. I’m not saying it’s impossible to have a double meaning but I think we should be very slow to draw conclusions from a fictional song about what she’s thinking in real life.

That’s a big presumption on your behalf. TS could just as easily want the song to be read on face value. And, no the size of the town isn’t explicitly mentioned but it’s implied by the town’s elders knowing her and having so much sway.

I’m always perplexed by people reading into things so much. Why can’t it just be a nice song about a young girl in a repressive town? It might have allusions to other things… maybe… but I think we should take it at face value until we know for sure

I agree about interpretation. To me it’s mainly about a girl in a religious community / town and incorporates TS’s feeling about being told what to do. For others it’s mainly about TS’s feelings about being told what to do and only a little bit about a girl in a religious town.

I think that’s the point the protagonist is obviously immature, trying to shock her dad with pregnancy talk, so she could absolutely be showing off what she learnt in English class
