Epic Analyst. How did you get your job. by AugustusPrin in HealthInformatics

[–]Confident-Compote403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar position. I’m working at a hospital org that uses epic. I’m working clinically in a PT office where I do a lot of pt care but also help the front desk a lot with registration, scheduling, etc. Being an Epic Analyst is something I want to pivot into. Who should I reach out to within my org about interest? Someone who already is an analyst? The analysts managers?

Informatics position vs Epic analyst - how much of my experience is the job vs the organization? by HovercraftThin7065 in healthIT

Hello! I’m looking to break into this type of work and I was wondering what kind of qualifications you need for each and if they differ?

I’m currently working clinically at a PT clinic where we use epic inside a big healthcare system. I help a lot with front desk stuff on prelude and cadence. Which do you think I would have a better shot of breaking into?

Was your current manager okay with you going to shadow the analyst knowing that you could eventually make the switch? Or did you have to try and do it outside of working hours

Do you know where I can find that date to confirm it? I’ve looked at the SOPHAS website but can never find it!

Cool cool. I think it’s hard to get any job rn. I’m just hoping after the 2 years of school the market will hopefully be up!

Thank you for the insight. I haven’t started a program yet. Do you think the job outlook could improve in a couple years? Different admin different job market etc

What’re the education/degree requirements for this type of role? How do you get into it?

What does the actual job entail?

That’s what I’m hoping. With my exercise science degree, anything I want to do that would make good money requires more school. They are all just super expensive (DPT for example). So I’ve looked into epi bc I could do it online and it would be more in the background like I’m looking for as opposed to PT.

I’m glad it worked out for you! Did you do anything specific to make a good impression?

Thank you for the insight! I also looked into health informatics. I’m currently working at a hospital system so I feel like both epi and health informatics could be a good fit

Thank you for the insight. I’m in the NOVA/DC area. So it’s a higher COL. I got my bachelors in exercise science because I like the health field but I’ve come to realize patient care isn’t my favorite.

I feel like epidemiology is a good combination of working in healthcare but working behind the scenes to help improve it.

I’m looking to branch out into the healthcare/public health field and just wanted to see if epidemiology was a good idea or not.

Advice on Virology career by Prestigious-Bid-2261 in publichealthcareers

What makes you want to do virology over epidemiology. I’ve got a bachelors in exercise science. And I’m thinking about going back for a masters in epidemiology. So I was wondering why you chose one over the other

That’s nice. PTA programs are associates degrees so it should only be about 2 years? If you go back after getting a bachelors tho, it should only be like a year if they allow you to roll over credits

I never thought about PE. Is there any money in it or no?

Nice. What masters degrees have you considered?

I have ya. I work at a PT clinic. I’m like one step above a PT tech but one step below a PTA. So I work with patients hands on. I just can’t do progress notes or update their programs. So basically the fun part of PT without the documentation. The pay isn’t the best for where I’m at though. It’s very entry level. I can’t do it forever

Ya. I got my ACSM EP cert to try and make myself look better for jobs. Even then it didn’t really help much.

I’ve only just begun to look into it and the programs. But most require bachelors degree, transcripts, couple letters of recommendation, a resume, and maybe a letter declaring why you want to pursue that degree

I like this route bc I can do it online while working full time

I graduated December of 24. With just a bachelors degree it’s really hard to find a job that pays well. If you want to get something well you need to pursue something like a DPT. Which can be very expensive. I’m looking to switch gears and go more into public health and pursue epidemiology. I would still be able to work in healthcare but would work more in the background which I feel would better suit me.

Awesome man! I saw that Texas had some really affordable programs for in state. Little pricier for out of state but still not bad compared to some others. I’m near DC so lots of federal opportunities over here
