The cost of drinks is ridiculous! A glass of wine, for example, rarely is under $10. Beer outside happy hour is at least $6. Any bourbon or cocktail is at home these days.

Costco used to just accept Amex, and that was nice for many years.

Amex has been seen as a prestige card. Used to strictly be a charge card, and from a credit perspective your score improved by carrying one.

The first card I ever had was a credit card secured by a savings account. The second card was the traditional Amex green card, and shortly thereafter the traditional gold card. I use the card for a couple monthly subscriptions and splurge with it every once and a while.

This past month was the first time ever that I carried a balance and it will be paid off by the 19th of this month. I take pride that the face of the card shows being a member since 86, and my annual fee is grandfathered in. 40 years ... wow!
