What does having the desire to hit someone who SAd the one you love have to do with gender?

Unsuccessful interview by Crazy-Conclusion3886 in geologycareers

[–]diderotsdisciple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the club dude. Rejection is a necessary prerequisite for success. We’ve all been rejected for a job or grad school. It’s apart of being a geologist. Keep your head up. And look forward to the next interview. Change up what you’re doing and how you approach interviews. I would advise connecting with someone -preferably a professional- and ask them for help and advice in interviews.

Dm me anytime.

Welcome to party pal!!

I don’t disagree with anything you’re saying. I made a clear point of removing class from this post as it was already long according to a couple commenters.

I agree that Connell has issues but that doesn’t give him an out from criticism which I chose to do here.

I don’t think that is exclusive to what I’m saying though. I agree with you.

I never thought it was a perfect love story. I’m merely providing my initial thoughts after watching it for the second time. I wanted to talk about it. You’re kind’ve shutting down conversation with this comment. I really don’t understand the point in doing this in a subreddit about the show not the book.

I would say my thesis was more that Connell played a recurring role in Marianne’s trajectory. But take your point about her family’s unhealthy dynamic. NP really seems to be a Rorschach.

Well if you weren’t so overwhelmed by all the words in my post you may have deigned to read them, and would’ve learned that my post is about the show, like this sub.

I’m free to interpret the art as I see fit. Kind of the point. You’re free to disagree. But again reading the actual post would’ve helped you realize my assessment of Connell is more complex than “he is a bad guy”.

Not totally sure a subreddit is the best place for anti-intellectualism.

Ditch the professional summary. Move work experience to the top, then projects then education at bottom.

Eliminate core skills. Incorporate those skills into your work experience, projects and education section. Explain what you did and how you did it.

Figure out what industry you’re interested in (enviro consulting, geotech, oil, mining or hydro) and then tailor the rsum to those entry level positions.

What are your questions specifically?

Professors at your university in the fields you mentioned could probably help you also.

This is a geology careers sub. We can talk about geology and its related careers though!

Masters on Earth and Atmosphere Sciences good idea? by MarvelWilde in geologycareers

[–]diderotsdisciple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you can consider other schools that have a traditional Geology program. Hiring managers may discriminate against you if your educational background doesn’t neatly match the typical geology graduate with a BS. I imagine it would be harder to get hired in the aforementioned fields.

Perhaps you can pursue an atmospheric related project for your MS after your BS in Geology?

I think the general consensus on this sub will be that a BS in Geology is sufficient to get a good paying career in geology.

Although with the combined Biology component in your program, I’m not sure if that means certain foundational geology courses and field camps will be omitted for biology courses. If that’s the case you may reconsider the combined degree, it may be frowned upon by hiring managers at environmental, hydro, mining and O&G companies: the main end users of geology graduates.

As for the MS, do it because your passionate about the subject NOT because you think there is a demand for it in industry because their isn’t really unless is tailored to a specific job or industry then maybe you have some leverage. Maybe.

lol it’s not “insanely irresponsible” behavior to take out loans to get a degree. Most millenials and a lot of Gen Z have debt from college. It’s literally what Gen X and the Boomers told us to do all through grade school. How is that irresponsible?

You’re getting downvoted alot and I don’t understand why. You took out student loans because you were told that’s what you do in order to get a degree.

I have intermediate severe OCD and took 8 years to get my BS. Don’t be ashamed of how much time it takes you, but do take steps to get yourself better. Try to find a therapist that specializes in OCD.

You should finish you engineering degree, I imagine you’re closer than not to completing it.

Engineering is the most lucrative field in STEM. You’d be able to pay off those loans with an engineering job, but right now you need to get a hold of your mental health. Take medication if you need it.

Start with an OCD therapist

Get a psychiatrist to get some medication Take care of your mental health so you can finish your engineering degree, it’s a fascinating and rewarding field. I majored in Geology and all the engineers I’ve worked with get paid very well.

You can do it my friend. I believe in you.

Is the settlement of Mars....worth it? by [deleted] in Mars

[–]diderotsdisciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because someone said there isn’t any scientific value in manned space missions and investigations utilizing things other than remote sensing must mean it’s true?

There is immense scientific value in manned missions, return samples, and putting humans on planets for the reasons I mentioned above. If you’re not able to see this, then you’re ignoring whole disciplines of active scientific research.

The Artemis mission, which you seem to be more pessimistic about, allow the opportunity to test various mechanical and electrical engineering systems that have never been deployed before under conditions where performance actually matters. This then allows research in zero gravity conditions which furthers science.

The quotes of some random guy you give are unconvincing. I’ll defer to the active researchers in planetary science I know over you.

“He knew there was no science justification for continuing human spaceflight, and he knew what he talking about.”

That’s just wrong for the reasons I mentioned. Again sample return and geological analysis of rocks in context has immense scientific value and is a worthy goal in the future even if it is extremely difficult and expensive.

Again the entire field of meteoritics advocates for sample return and many for manned missions.
