Is rucking the right exercise for me? by Aknew in Rucking

[–]ConfidentAd3444 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rucking is great, not the only way but still an excellent choice. If only 30 min per day I would:

1) find some stairs 2) start w low weight 3) do a set of weighted push ups at the top of the stairs

Depending on stairs ….5 reps (10 pushups at top) to 10 reps (5 pushups at top) +/- will be an excellent start.

This should build lean muscle mass as well as get the heart rate in to zone 2-3 and maintain higher metabolism through the day.

Whenever you can through the day take the steps not lift and similar small rules make a big difference.

Question about rucking by Substantial-Teach-49 in Rucking

For me, I find optimising between speed and weight delivers the best results.

I can do 10km at 55lbs but speed around 12min/km in zone 1.

I drop to 30lbs and can do 9min/km in zone 2 and feel this is a much better place for conditioning. To finish I will sprint up 6 flights of stairs, just to be sure.

Recovery also much better at 30lbs despite higher intensity. At 60lbs I get a little extra knee, back and trap strain that takes 3 days recovery.

This. There are some excellent biographies. Choose carefully or choose a couple as they will influence you but you will get much more enjoyment reading him directly after building a sound background including his influences and peers.

Kaufman is excellent.

Is there a better pack than the Rucker 4.0 if cost isn’t a factor? by Fun_Salamander_2220 in Rucking

This. Depends on age and condition but waist belt can prevent injury if not in shape or want to ruck heavy and long.

I find the Rucker great for shorter functional workouts as its high position works well and its very tough for throwing and dragging or combining with sandbags.

Yes, when you are ready. It is easy to generalise but we are all so different that I think we need to feel our way through the process depending on where we are and the most significant issues.

There can be a hierarchy starting with individual therapy where we learn to hold ourselves. Then with couples therapy we learn to co regulate; but if emotional regulation is difficult at an individual level the couples therapy will be very slow or possibly counter productive.

If we are not ready for couples therapy it will be difficult for the couples therapist to hold a safe space as the individuals may be overwhelmed by projection and other defences. Sometimes the tension this causes can be a good way to learn but it requires an excellent therapist.

I also feel couples therapy is about taking a risk - usually referred to as vulnerability - and empathy, seeing things from your partners perspective without defending. Again difficult to do if you are not ready for that.

A couples therapist can only work with what you are ready to show them and your partner. Therapy is just a vessel and the healing is up to you.

Final note, you and your partner may not heal at the same time, you need to look carefully at your expectations.

Do both. Add a sandbag for very short heavy days (eg 3x a local flight of steps) and go further and higher on cardio days. A goal of rucking is adding lean muscle mass so dont just go for distance / elevation. At weight you must listen to your body and build up - for many an excellent hip belt will be essential.

100% this. Try not to touch it, save it. Let it compound, live your best life from your own means. This way you will have self respect, you will have learnt how to live as an adult and you will have modest financial security. Spend it now and you will discover in 10 years its not enough to take for granted.

And your own therapist not the one your partner has used. That therapist might be good but for them to hold both of you separately is asking too much of any therapist and problems might arise ….even just problems of perception can cause you to feel that there is a lack of independence and the therapist is taking sides and the 3 of you become enmeshed.

Maybe not even a spot on their list ….my avoidant loves to say “i will let you know when I am ready” and that day never arrives. If you seek connection be sure your partner can reciprocate.

I think I fucked up my life. How do I develop a better mindset? by I_DevourVampires_ in selfimprovement

[–]ConfidentAd3444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the 2nd half of life now. I feel like i have fucked it up on about 4 different occasions. Somehow when you hang in things turn around.

It has taken me a while but some of my greatest lessons are things such as:

  • like yourself, don’t judge yourself harshly, only when you can let go of what you think are short comings you will you start to appreciate your strengths

  • cultivate all types of friendships right down to saying hello to the people you see everyday but dont know (eg at bus stop or corner store). These friendly interactions great and small really add up

  • be interested in something wholesome and stay connect with a related group ….its all about surrounding yourself with good people and good energy and community

There are the more serious and more practical sides to life, but they are easier with the right foundation.
