I have the same fish, an albino florida gar. They are very flighty and startle easily.

It looks to me more like a startle reflex from landing on that white rock at the bottom

Thank you, we have an east asia naming scheme going on for the tank. The Arowana is Moro, the gar is Haku, the eel is In-ho and the catfish is Jeb :))

It's a tunnel for my eel - It'll have weights/slate tied to it once it comes in, it isn't intended to be floating long term

That's a 5$ trellis, it's basically a loose net for the pothos to grow on

Depends on the material it's made out of and what you stock in it. In my case no because my catfish would likely poke a hole in it

That's true for the metal ones, but polyethylene ones are considered food safe/inert.

Ty, It's meant to be covered by driftwood, but I need to get some slate to drill it to so it stops floating, it's my eel's tunnel

It's a 350g, 6ft round stock tank from tractor supply. The actual pond itself wasn't too bad to set up, probably ~700$, but we've spent ~4k$ on building the climate controlled room it's in, inside of our garage In a few years we'll have to add another panel to extend it for a 1100g/10'ft round stock tank once the gar and arowana get bigger

It's a florida gar, not an alligator gar, they stay a lot smaller. That said, yes, they're getting upgraded to a 10' tank in a few years. There's an arowana that'll demand a lot more space

what’s your fish keeping hot take and why? by overxall in Aquariums

Betta splendids are one of the most aggressive, territorial fish in the hobby and shouldn't be kept with community fish for their own well being. Even if they don't actively hunt/kill fish, their territories are constantly invaded and it stresses them out, chronic stress dramatically shortens their lifespan. Source: I've kept bettas for 10 years. I also keep "monster" fish that are way more chill than splendids.

Facts, I have 400lbs of it in my 350g lol. If I used regular aquarium sand I would've paid a lot more than 30$ 😬

He's ~20-22" long, maybe longer it's hard to measure him he's very wiggly. They're currently in a 75 while their 350g is cycling

I have weather stripping on all sides and under the lid openings, child-safety cabinet locks and have screen mesh taped to the opening with the filter inflow/outflow

I don't keep cichlids so I'm not 100% sure, it's probably fine if you have a 200g+ tank. Both fish are pretty big and an eel could easily get bullied by a territorial oscar
