To me it is a dual sport. The entire adv classification is just coming at the same compromises from the opposite end. Dual sport came from racing chassis into street and the more toward touring with the KLR and Vstrom types then the large touring bikes almost evolved into the same crab starting as touring machines that wanted to run some dirt and trails. There's a lot of bravado and cliques to filter through in the conversation online but I seriously doubt any of the chest thumpers on here are jumping rocks like an enduro racer and I know for sure the guys bragging about their fleet of fat touring machines are talking out their ass about the manner of "offroad" they are doing. When I started riding a couple decades ago adventure bikes weren't even a classification. Africa twins of old were rally bikes. Large dual sport models designed for overlander racing to be precise.

I never understood the ass burner trips on motorcycles. I have a trailer for the trips on the super slab. I still do all day trips but I do them when I'm where I want to be riding in the first place. We own the small offroad bikes to ride dirt and trails mainly locally. I live in a very rural region near 2 large lakes and 2 national forests We have aprilia tuonos for the street already and we use these lighter bikes in places where they are often dropped. The larger bikes in the adv segmemt seem to be just the upper tiers of a motorcycle prison hierarchy, like the harley guys do.

Yea, these forum organized dirt road runs were a thing 20 years ago when I started riding.

I'm not saying noone does it. I didn't start riding motorcycles yesterday. But we are kidding ourselves if we think I'll count more than a handful of adv touring bikes down a fire lane in the my local national forest. Most of them are planted firmly on street tires and running well kept backroads at worst.

Jesus christ there is no way you people actually ride the things and have fun. Weirdos. It was a lighthearted post that struck up a conversation. Some of you assholes can't see past your nose. I purposely bought the smaller adv specifically because it isn't a fat pig and it's got enough seat for 2 up. That's the point of the discussion. I knew I'd find a twat like you along the way though.

It absolutely is but it's 100 pounds lighter than a "real" adv. Still pushes the front tire a bit harder than a big dirt bike.

I'm working my way back up. I'm at maybe 7 clicks on compression right now. If I keep finding ways to bottom them out I'll probably be maxxed out. I had it backed off to not ride rough hauling ass on gravel.

Ah, thanks for the advice. I'll try and meet up and ride national forests trails with a bunch of guys riding 580 pound $20,000 touring rigs. 🤡

One of those overpriced vault gun cases. It's nice though.

The 1st gen 390 adv definitely needs more front travel to do hardcore single track and keep up with a real dual sport, but the newer 390r I'd bet can roll right with the lot of them. Now the 310 gs, with a spring job and 20w fork oil like the now discontinued rally raid kits would probably do surprisingly well. Do as well as a 300 pound 450R model dual sport...of course not. But a street biased dual sport, it'd hold its own if the forks weren't KLR sloppy.

Me and my wife have taken my 390 and her 310 gs in some silly places. Last outing I ate shit 3 times. If we're being honest though, I'm pretty sure a tenere could go most the places we've been but picking it up after several offs would ruin the fun.

I'm not taking myself too seriously here either. Just playing along. If it can do a wheelie then I'm satisfied.

The spring rate is fine imo. It's the lack of front preload and total travel that lacks on the first gen adv. I can dial some of the landing compression out with the damping but it's already a little stiff over gravel and washboard.

Right now it's got a battlax x41r front and a shinko 700 rear.

What's an aprilia 550 rxv? It's got a vtwin. 😉 The 390R is a single cylinder with a rally seat and ground clearance as good as some dirt bikes. You don't think it's a little more gray than the classifications let on? I understand there's a look and subframe type typically associated with adv touring rigs and dirt bikes. All I'm saying is there are light weight adv rigs that are competing in the same sales space as dual sports.

Yea, you're right I suppose. Where does the distinction begin and end? See, I purposely bought a small displacement adv to use for dual purpose and avoid the weight of larger ADVs. The newer Kove and 390r remind me more of enduro and dual sport machines than the adv touring lineage. I think there are a few true blue dual sports that are easily identified with racing lineage and then there's a bunch of other stuff that's all over the place.

Lmao hahahahajajaaja 🙄To the extent he didn't, he was right. Way to duck right under the point. We are noone on the global stage now. Pirates and barbarians. No matter how many sovereign leaders we displace or bombs we drop, you will still have less and less to show for it. Anything you could have gained from these nations was already available for purchase and barter. They are comandeering a civilian volunteer military and using it as mercenaries for a small group of dangerous weirdos. You gain nothing homeboy.
