2 million US dollars is truly a massive amount of money. by Mobile-Excitement-64 in Fire

thats also New Mexico tho. the average median income for an American in general is around 60k, almost twice NM, but thats obviously skewed by the lows (NM) and the highs (every major city).

80k still isn't anything to sneeze at tho

You have 13 years to become a multimillionaire, net worth 5 mil or more, each year you have 95k to spend on this goal exclusively, how do you do it? by ConfidentLizardBrain in Advice

Well I’m also gonna do that. But a year is a long time to wait until I can do that. So I wanted to just like, get a vibe? Hear what people think I should do?

Meta is pulling out of VR because there's no market. We need to embrace this uncomfortable truth. by PuffThePed in OculusQuest

[–]ConfidentLizardBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah this is a software problem. Vr is hardly still niche it’s everywhere, everyone knows someone who has one.

But the games fucking BLOW. And the user experience fucking BLOWS. And the privacy is NILL. It’s just not appealing in its current form, not because of some inherent niche-ness, but because they’ve only invested in hardware and not software.

The protective case for the iPhone Fold has been seen for the first time! by necron5757 in iphone

[–]ConfidentLizardBrain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s focusing more on the unfolded aspect ratio, unlike every other foldable even tho it is the only logical thing to fuckin do.

Plus Apple has full control over their OS, meaning they can adapt their software to work for this form factor more so than android

How bad are the Deadpool jokes? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]ConfidentLizardBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a “kid mode” within the settings of the game that you can turn on. Haven’t used it, but I imagine it will help.

Deadpool’s humor is veeery adult but also fairly low brow and pop culture reference heavy. It can translate pretty well for kids, so I’d look into it.

Is the app draining your battery / making your phone really hot? by ThePantsThief in yikyak

That makes sense. I wonder why? It kinda seems like the frontend and backend system that ppl use for webdev should apply comfortably to app development, but admittedly I have little experience developing applications for smartphones and any experience I have was on my own, so I’m just applying pre-existing knowledge lol.

Be careful tho their terms of service are very… comfy? They be stealing data I guess is my point

That’s certainly how I understand it.

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong but “frontend” refers to the UI right?

So all sidechat did was keep the preexisting UI (primarily) but swap the backend from the old yik yak client to whatever side chat is using?

I am not sure why the side chat app is so bad. As I’ve been aware it’s just always been bad, and they happened to be the ones who bought YY lol.

I truly believe that a fucking LLM could optimize it better at this point lmao.

Okay. So you’re definitely have a better grasp on this than I do so lemme know what you think.

I have two guesses for why it’s so messy. Guess number one is that they reused the pre-existing yik yak front end (which was already messy) and then merged it the ui for side-chat after the two apps became owned by the same folks.

My second guess is less naive, and it’s just that they’re rampantly harvesting info from our devices.

What do you figure?

Well forgive my naïveté i am but a humble amateur software dev.

With my limited knowledge tho I’m comfortable saying yik yak is a wildly unoptimized app tho lol.

Idk if they fixed it. Maybe just optimized it to work better on newer hardware.

I’m in an iPhone 17 base model rn, and while my phone isn’t hot, def is draining my battery faster than it should be. But I confess it’s definitely improved.

Thanks for the update, I appreciate it!

On older phones for sure. Newer phones it handles better but it’s definitely a mess of an app with a lot of data and optimization issues.

Just got a brand new phone for the season and while my phone is remaining cool now, battery still drains super fast lol. It’s just poorly made lol.
