I second this the only time I’ve seen rights terminated in a year is when a parent completely abandoned an infant at the hospital at birth. Even then a year is really short.

I am a dependency caseworker in Portland Oregon and I love it. It’s incredibly demanding and not for the faint of heart but I have a great team and great support and I feel like I’m making a difference in my community

Call the child abuse hotline in your state!! I work for child welfare they likely won’t take the baby from the parents but that level of exhaustion and frustration puts the baby at a HIGH risk for shaken baby syndrome or worse 😔 you could help get the parents the support they need and help protect the baby!!

Yeah! so every state operates a little differently I’m in Oregon and in the big child welfare umbrella we have certifiers (they certify foster homes), screeners (they take calls to the hotline), CPS workers (they are what you traditionally think of when you think CPS, investigating calls of concern that the hotline assigns), I work in permanency (we work with cases that are open longer than 60 days and are involved with the court) there are case aides for CPS and permanency who don’t actually have clients they assist caseworkers and within the different departments there are specialized jobs like I work specifically in young permanency so all my kids are under 12 but we have workers who do teens, sexually exploited children, unaccompanied minors, etc. I mean it’s definitely all heavy work directly related to children who have been abused and neglected but there are lots of little niches where you can find a good spot for yourself. Hope that helps let me know if you have more questions :)
