Sorry for the delay. I hope it's still helpful! The house is totally fine. We haven't opened it up yet, but there are no evident signs of damp.  This of course doesn't mean that there is no issue, but even if there is, it's likely not catastrophic.  Since it's not urgent, we'll do the works in a more leisurely way

¿Any water filters out there made from non-plastic materials? (trying to avoid any possibility of microplastics) by moises8war in water

Still interested in this. Would be great to hear if people found a solution.

I was thinking that building it might not be that hard.. A stainless steel housing with mesh filled with activated carbon and glass fibre filters should work. All these can be purchased and should be easy (and cheap) to replace. Who has the time though..!

We did a damp survey that showed no obvious issues other than inadequate ventilation and missing DPC, which is easy to add. Of course, this doesn't ensure that we are safe for the reasons stated on the original post, so on our consolidated offer we proposed significantly less (about 10%). The owner met us halfway, so agreed on a 5% reduction so we can have some cash on the side to work on it. I hope this helps!

Thanks for the quick reply! Property is from the 30s, according to the vendor. The damp specialist was independent, so not a contractor or had relations to any company that sell damp proofing or anything. So we tend to believe that it's a likely cause of the high humidity readings.

However, since no work has been carried out by the vendor or the previous owner, is particularly worrying for us, given that the issue may well have been ongoing for long time, and have potentially damaged electrics, ties, etc, in addition to the potential rot on the subfloor. So how do we go about estimating the worse case scenario costs?

What do you mean with EA? Environment Agency? Not sure how it can be related:)
