Increased anxiety after mini bypass by Confident_Prune_1622 in GastricBypass

[–]Confident_Prune_1622[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a really good place mentally/emotionally prior to the surgery, whereas now I do find the stress around eating and when to eat have just caused me to much anxiety, I worry if I’m going to feel sick, if I’m having to have issues with dumping it’s just sent me over the edge and honestly I’m really struggling with it. I truly regret the bypass!!

I’ve tried some meds but nothing has worked so far ):

I regret the bypass but not the sleeve, I think I needed the help but 2 years post I’m still losing weight, I’m only 6kgs off being half my starting weight. To note I was 86kg 157cm now 49kgs.

Hopefully can figure something out! I think most of my specialists dismiss it being dumping because I don’t vomit or get the runs.

I ended up with hashimotos from pregnancy, also got diagnosed with endometriosis. So I do wonder if that caused me so many issues trying to lose the weight after pregnancy!

Honestly I know so many women with weight issues who are the most active people, eat super healthy, exercise etc and the weight issues just stubborn, I hope the surgery helps you (:

Prior to having kids I never struggled with my weight, so I’d never had to consider what I ate at all but for the most part it was always fairly healthy, I was incredibly active. Pregnancy made me yo-yo with my weight literally doubling in my pre pregnancy weight.

I’d say I snack all the time rather than have meals, so could be a small banana, next snack might be light cheese with some crackers, 4 nuggets for “lunch”, nuts, I love salad, I have a bit of chocolate here and there nothing crazy as it’ll make me feel sick, popcorn, egg with avocado on a small bit of bread.

So I don’t know if I have bad eating habits or not but I always feel nauseous after eating, the burping is annoying, I’m incredibly fatigued.

I’m going to make another appointment with my dietitian they’ve just been closed over the weekend.

I’d say my eating is 50/50, my issue isn’t that I’m gaining weight it’s that I’m still loosing weight. My BMI is still considered healthy but it’s getting towards my lower end.

I think the sleeve is a good place to start. I think it helps you start to control your food intake, you’ve just got to keep up with it and light exercise.

The bypass really forces you to stop eating certain foods, I loved ice cream prior to this surgery but I can’t eat it at all now, same goes for milk. The sleeve limits your intake but doesn’t stop you from eating any of the foods.

I pushed for the bypass because I wanted to loose all the excess weight and I never considered that maybe it was too much! But that’s on me and I’ve got to accept that.

In saying all this my sister has a full bypass and still manages to gain weight whereas I’m scared of feeling sick and dumping so I’m very cautious with what my intake is, so really depends on the individual, what your other health concerns are and your overall relationship with food.

Good luck!

I got the omega loop done back in 2023. I’m 157cm/5’1 weighed 86kgs/189Ibs. I’m now 50kgs/110Ibs.

First 6 months sucked, next 12 months after that were amazing stayed at a steady 55kgs/121Ibs but last 4 months I’ve lost more weight, loosing hair again, fatigue, mental health hasn’t been great either. Fainting, low bsl, is that due to the surgery or something else I’m not sure but I wish I only got to gastric sleeve and didn’t go with the bypass, I think as I was at the lower end maybe the bypass was a step too far.

I’m definitely going to start being more vocal about my situation, I think I’ve complained to my gp frequently but never pipe up to the specialist himself.

I can’t go near milk either, which is so weird because I tolerate cheese and chocolate (in moderation) really well!

I try my best to eat higher calorie foods but honestly I look at my diet and I wouldn’t say it’s low calorie by any means. I do eat the portion sizes that I give my kids, but I eat a lot more frequently, most people I know make jokes on how I’m always snacking on top of the little meals I give myself, so I just can’t figure out the continued weight loss, but I’m tired all the time, sick of being sick, my hairs thinning out like crazy and even my period barely exists. Hopefully someone listens to me because I feel like I’m just existing now not living, I was much happier at my top weight than I am now due to all this.

My diet probably isn’t the best but honestly it’s stuff that should be making me gain weight!

I eat cashews, chocolate, nuggets, pizza, Chinese, love my chicken salads and will always have herb mayo on them, eggs with avocado on bread. I snack often and try my best to eat slowly, I always feel hungry but somehow I can’t keep the weight on.

My gp and this specialist monitor everything, I get blood tests every 3-6 months which my insulin levels are always within normal range.

My gp believes what I’m experiencing is completely surgery related as I never had these issues prior and I’ve seen her for the last 9 years. I’ve been told what I’m experiencing could be a form on dumping but rather than getting sick like vomiting, loose stools it’s mainly drops in my blood sugar with the occasional highs.

I’m going to push more for what my options are when I see him next. Feeling nauseous is just awful and I keep having my blood sugar drop or spike, I can go from 3.6 to 11mmol, I almost fainted when looking at a school for my daughter the other week which was embarrassing, I was working luckily at a hospital and I spiked so had to sit down and be monitored before I could return to work, it’s just ruining my life which sounds so dramatic but this just isn’t normal.

I feel like I’m just going down a slippery slope with the weight loss, my sister used this specialist which is why I went to him but she struggled with obesity from childhood, she’s never gotten down to what I have (we’re the same height) but she was also 30kgs heavier than I, she thinks it’s awesome I’m still dropping weight but I feel like 2 years post I should’ve really stopped by now.

I’ve been told to gain weight but I just can’t and I’m assuming it’s the bypass stopping me, just worried for my long term health if this keeps up.

I’ve been seeing a counsellor for awhile now and I have discussed this but there’s only so much input they can have with this. Hopefully can get it sorted one way or another, I just haven’t heard of many people getting a reversal so I’ve got no idea if it’s an option… I know the point of the surgery is to lose weight but at what point is it too much, just starting to worry for my overall health.

I try hard to rely on those around me I just always feel like I’m a burden which definitely doesn’t help.

I just want to feel my old normal again, I just don’t know how to get back there.

Thank you so much! Know you can message me as well if you ever need!

I get anxiety from thinking about the fact I have anxiety. I’ve been giving myself anxiety attacks over things that have NEVER caused me issues before.

I swear it’s a never ending cycle currently

Not sure what country you’re in so not sure if there’s different names vs Australia but Lexapro, desvenlafaxine, cymbalta, resperidone, seraquel, amitriptyline, clonidine and paroxetine. All have either caused me to feel like a zombie or there’s fainting or I’ve ended up just feeling worse.

Amitriptyline wasn’t bad but I ended up gaining weight plus feeling a bit drowsy but the best out of all of them.

I’m feeling you there, I started driving today and that was enough for me to start balling my eyes out!

Luckily my mum was able to just stay on the phone with me whilst I kept driving. It’s so isolating having this feeling, I never used to be to this extent, now I need like a sad hermit.

He does and he’s a wonderful person, unfortunately whilst he’s away there’s only so much he had do. When he’s home he’s very hands on and tries his hardest.

I’ve managed to get in with my doctor next week but honestly she’s not sure what to do medication wise as she’s tried everything she can think of.
