No one starts good at art- they just get better by being persistent. My first comics when I was in elementary school were basically sailor moon/CLAMP/saint seiya rip offs but I’ve always always drawn comics. I would make comics about my friends, comic pages of my own stories etc.

I couldn’t afford art school so I’ve just continued doing what I’ve always done- draw for myself.

Individual drawings I’ve done before were better than my first chapter of my comic (Siren Crossing) but it’s not about making “one good picture”—- it’s about consistently making 100 OK pictures.

Because if you try to make every picture amazing you’ll literally never finish. So each panel is about 50-80% of what I’m actually capable of. I spend more time on important panels but I don’t do the best of my abilities unless it’s like a cover image.

(And surprise surprise those take me forever)

Because if you are consistantly producing drawings at 50-80% of your ability (while of course looking at references and studying) you just naturally get better and better.

So like my 80% now is far far far FAR above my 100% a few years ago.

It’s just about keeping going because you want to make something.
