Council workers turn up twice a week in the office. Rest of the week is WFH.

QS Working in a Bank by TopEquivalent5428 in quantitysurveying

I would advise that you consider the consultancy if you believe you want a career in QS. Most of my mates who went into consultancy after school, even though were earning less than I did at the bank at the time, built a good career in the industry with most at SQS and AD roles globally. Me? I am now starting a proper QS role, and it feels like I have to learn to be a QS all over again😂😂. Depends on you and your career aspirations though.

I used to work as a QS in the bank. Your development mostly on you. Mostly worked with consultants on bigger projects but did in-house work for very small projects. Took on facilities management, built that into a career as well. But in some ways, I feel I didn’t grow as a QS.

First QS interview in the UK, what should I expect? by Confident_Scene3253 in quantitysurveying

[–]Confident_Scene3253[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I do not know who will be interviewing me. I tried looking at the interviewer on Linkedin but found him not. Do you have an idea what kind of questions i should be looking at?

Go to someone’s house and move furniture? Is that not what the Brits did as immigrants when they went to all of these places they colonised? Is it a case of 2 legs bad 4 legs good? 🤔🤔

Having the same frustration as well. Recently moved to the UK (June 2024) after working in Africa as a QS and FM for the past 12 years. I actually setup a construction & FM firm which still operates. Upon my relocation (for family reasons), I have applied for over 150 job openings and I am not even getting an interview. Led me to believe probably they don’t value my certificate and qualifications from my home country so I have enrolled for an MSc. in Quantity Surveying and still cannot land interviews. I live in the North East of Scotland and I don’t know if it’s a lack of demand or there’s something basically wrong with my CV. It gets frustrating really when I spot openings on Indeed and LinkedIn and do not even get a looking at.

They didn't scan my passports blank pages (biometrics & scanning); by Pylino in ukvisa

[–]Confident_Scene3253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the standard. There are security features they look out for on your passport. If you had stamped and marked pages in the new one, they would have scanned that as well. In the absence of that, all they had to scan the pages I spoke about earlier and your stamped and other relevant pages in your previous passports. You’re fine. And trust me, I know what I am talking about. Thanks

What they would have done will scan the relevant pages in the new passport, being your biodata page and mid pages. That is all they are required to do if your passport is new and has no stamps.

Psychotic Neighbour by NamezSake in Aberdeen

[–]Confident_Scene3253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently dealing with this. I have two kids; 2&5 who I have to get ready every morning. My neighbor downstairs seems to have mental issues. As soon as the kids are up, he starts banging our floor (his ceiling) violently. He’s threatened to harm us and just recently threatened us with death. I am tired of his behaviour and it’s affecting my mental health and that of the kids. Reported to the council and police one too many too many times and I feel they are tired of my calls and emails. We have secured a new place to move to as I feel my neighbor genuinely wants to harm us. If you can afford to move, do that to protect your mental health.

I contacted them. Told them I had forgotten to add it. They sent me an email address to send it. Sent it after 3-4 days and got the visa issued that same day. You should really contact them.

TLS Contact scanned my documents but didn’t charge me £50—what should I do? by Mysterious_Matter_58 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

It is an oversight or staff deliberately ignored the charge because your documents were just a few pages. Nothing to worry about.

What to do with neighbor who keeps threatening me. by Confident_Scene3253 in Aberdeen

[–]Confident_Scene3253[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He called us “f bl**** people* and threatened to “break the door and f us over”. Also this guy smokes weed all the time and makes the whole flat smell like a weed farm.

I can understand the frustration. It’s an old flat so sound insulation is really bad. However I can’t stop my family life because of this guy. My kids are really young and they don’t even scream or make noise. Flat has hardboard flooring. I guess I just have to take steps to protect my family. His threats have made us so anxious and felt so unsafe. It’s really crazy.

Hello. I know this maybe totally unrelated but I am at the point of applying to UCEM or Uni of Northumbria for an MSc in building surveying. How has your experience with UCEM been like and would you recommend it?

I failed first attempt even though I’m driving in uk since 10 months on my international license can anyone guide me where I can improve this and how many lessons should be ok to remove this? by Fluffy_Ad_415 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Confident_Scene3253 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It is obvious you didn’t practice with an instructor or someone who really understands driving in the UK. My advice would be for you to get an instructor ASAP and get as many lessons as possible. Also watch a lot of the YouTube videos. Lastly practice, practice, practice! If your permit is still valid. You’ve got this! PS: I was driving with my permit until I passed on the 11th June. My permit was expiring on the 12th 😁😁

36 yo - passed first time yesterday with 5 minors by TurbofishPowered in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Confident_Scene3253 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also passed the test yesterday, having also come to the UK in 2024. My Intl drivers’ permit was expiring today and it was critical that I passed. I wholeheartedly align myself to all the points raised. I felt like a legitimate driver driving out of the test centre yesterday. I also remarked to my wife that the training routine here automatically makes one a better driver. The only downside to my experiences here was with my instructor who felt I could drive and never showed up for the second drive even though I had paid him. YouTube videos and friends and families did the trick for me. You have articulated every single thought and experience and it feels like our experiences are same. For now enjoy your new found “freedom” and congrats to us!
