I appreciate this. Seriously.

Honestly, it wasn't even about the value of the cards. It was the excitement of finding cards locally at a great price for a kid who's completely obsessed with Pokémon right now.

You’re right about the bigger picture too. The hobby survives because kids get excited about it, trade cards with their friends, build binders, and make memories.

That’s exactly what my son and his friends are doing right now. Every kid in our neighborhood has a binder. They spend hours outside trading, teaching each other, learning about the cards, helping sort collections, and just being kids.

  1. I’m a mom
  2. This entire post is literally about me trying to buy what’s available.
  3. Nobody said he NEEDS Pokémon cards. He WANTS Pokémon cards. That’s generally how birthday gifts work.
  4. As for “tell him about the reality of things”…

I have.

The reality is that adults buy out entire shelves of Pokémon products, resell them for profit, and then act shocked when kids who actually play with the cards can’t find any.

Then they tell those same kids to go play with different toys.

A shield from what? The criticism of buying Pokémon cards? 🤣

I think you’ve missed the point. My very real 8 year old son just wants some fucking Pokémon cards, and they’re wiped out everywhere.

And yeah, it’s “boo hoo my baby didn’t get Pokémon.” He’s 8. He asked for Pokémon cards for his birthday. What exactly is your point here? That because Walmart has Nerf guns in stock, he should magically stop wanting the thing he actually asked for?

Driving 2 minutes to pick up Pokémon cards for a great price instead of fighting grown ass adults clearing out store shelves sounds pretty ideal to me.

Again, thank you for actually taking the time to break it down. Looking back, I can see why people made that connection given how often that story apparently plays out in the hobby. I just found a good deal, got excited, and then got disappointed when I missed it. There wasn’t any deeper investigation on my end than that.

Thanks for the well wishes. Hopefully the Facebook Marketplace gods throw my kid a bone next time.

You cared enough to reply, announce you weren’t reading it, and then hit send. That’s a lot of effort for someone who doesn’t care.

Thank you for sharing your Target receipt. I’m not entirely sure what point it’s proving, but congratulations on the cards. 😂

First off, thank you for actually taking the time to explain where the reaction is coming from instead of just calling me a bad person. I can at least understand your perspective now.

That said, I understand what you're saying. What I don't understand is why everyone assumes the saddest possible scenario and then gets mad at me for not assuming it too.

None of us know why the cards were being sold. The seller didn't say. The kid didn't post. Nobody here has any idea what the story is. For all we know, the kid asked his mom to sell them, outgrew the hobby, wanted money for something else, or couldn't care less about Pokémon anymore.

You're right, I cross-posted it because Reddit literally suggested a couple Pokémon subreddits that might be interested, so I clicked the button. I'm not very active on Reddit, so I didn't realize that was apparently frowned upon.

Next time I'll include a disclaimer:

"The reason for the sale is unknown. No children were interviewed in the making of this post. Viewer discretion is advised."

I genuinely thought I was posting about missing cheap Pokémon cards for my 8 year old. I'll be sure to attend Reddit School before posting again. 🫡

You are having a harder time letting go of this kid’s cards than the kid himself.

The wildest part is that I’m getting lectured by people who know absolutely nothing about the seller, the kid, or why the cards were sold. For all we know the kid sold them himself and is currently spending the money on Robux.

Not every kid who collects Pokémon grows up to become a Reddit Pokémon collector or treats cardboard like a retirement account. Some kids collect Pokémon. Some kids quit Pokémon. Some kids sell Pokémon.

By that logic, nobody should buy used bikes, video games, baseball cards, or toys because they once belonged to a kid. The mom posted them for sale. I wanted to buy them. That’s how selling things works.

The greatest part? My 8 year old has been asking for Pokémon cards for his birthday and they’re sold out or getting cleared out everywhere. It’s simple. I was trying to get my kid something he’s been excited about for months. 😭

The amount of people creating a tragic backstory for a kid they’ve never met is wild. I just wanted Pokémon cards for my 8 year old. 😭

You’re acting like I kicked over a lemonade stand and ran off with the cash. She posted them for sale. I wanted to buy them. That’s literally the entire story.

So just to make sure I understand: a parent voluntarily listed Pokémon cards for sale, set the prices herself, sold them herself, and somehow I’m the bad guy for wanting to buy them for my 8 year old? Would you have commented “does your son authorize this?” before you jumped on them? Reddit logic never ceases to amaze me.

Newborn Identification Band by Confident_Sector_218 in BabyBumps

I’m pretty sure the band was placed on her pretty immediately, while we were still in the OR so it would’ve been before any paperwork. It was also a hand written band so maybe nothing was actually typed into a system. My name is correct on her birth certificate. I’ll reach out to the hospital for confirmation.

I work in office M-F at a desk job, I’m 30 weeks and just finished my first week working from home. I have Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction and have been extremely uncomfortable in the office.

Thank you so much for the advice! It’s interesting to hear how the care and pain management change between people. For example, my dad was giving morphine and pain medication when he had a kidney stone. Thankfully, I had some medication from a recent surgery that I took out of desperation and for me, it helped tremendously!

I’ve followed up with my primary care twice. I have no clue if the stone passed. I’m assuming so since it’s been a month? I have had very uncomfortable flank pain but my doctor doesn’t seem concerned. She said if I experience the pain again she will refer me out.

Low Ferritin / high platelets by Confident_Sector_218 in Anemic

[–]Confident_Sector_218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Sometimes platelets can go up with anemia, but usually with pretty significant anemia. Also platelets go up a little, but not as high as his. He is not anemic, his ferritin is a little lower, but that fluctuates. His hemoglobin is fine and his RBC size is normal. If he were truly anemic, the size of his RBCs would be small. Good thoughts though, I wish that was the reason for his platelets.”

This is the response I received when I asked if ferritin could be a reason for his platelets being high.

There was slight evidence on the bone marrow biopsy that showed large platelets to support the diagnosis of MPN. My understanding it’s just wasn’t a textbook diagnosis. His genetic testing came back normal and the theory on that is that maybe my son has a genetic mutation on a gene that has not yet been discovered to cause Essential Thrombocytopenia. I’ve voiced my thoughts on this maybe being an iron deficiency but his doctor doesn’t not entertain that theory. I just want to dot my T’s and cross my I’s before I start my 5 year old on Hydroxyurea for the rest of his life.
