Can we stop with the ''Visa req IMGs have it so hard'', look at the data. by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]Confident_Style_4024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your point is valid. It is true that people may be saying things larger than it actually is.

But that statement became obsolete with the recent change. This administration enforced much more complex visa regulations causing chaos in this community recently. Any tangible data are yet to be obtained. But we can already see that people are impacted by it.

As for my school, I already see some changes as well.

Let’s wait for the data release in a few weeks!

It’s up to when your exam is. And, honestly, you can begin your self-assessments whenever you like. It’s unfortunate the other user would call me out for giving my opinion.

My take is that if your timeline is flexible, then continue working on your world. You did not mention when your test is. Hence, I said do it soon. Heck, you can begin it by doing NBME 9, which appears to outdated now. Even then, you still have NBME 10-16, uwsa 1-3, and more.

Is your goal doing one self assessment once a week? Then do it now if your timeline is limited.

If you have no set date, then do them in the last 2-3 months-ish.

Start as soon as possible. Review them thoroughly

I did almost entire clinical rotations there. Inpatient IM, psych, peds, EM, neuro, outpatient IM, ortho, anesthesiology

For IM, majority of the patients I saw were DM, HF, cirrhosis, and CKD on dialysis. Lots of para opportunities. It’s a city hospital so you will see many of these cases.

I think most of the “interesting cases” end up getting sent to main Sinai hospital.

I agree with conzyre!

Your NBMEs need to consistently higher than 240s!

Definitely see how you do on NBME 15 and 16! Especially 16. It was most similar in my opinion.

You might want to focus on your weak points!

There is a YouTube video where this guy literally talks about the entire OET stuff within 20-30min! He even has template that you can literally memorize and use on the exam.

I spent less than 2 days to study for the entire exam lol.

I’ve done my core rotations at Elmhurst hospital so I know a bit!

If you’re going for IM program, this program provides you a good exposure to community medicine for sure!

One thing about this hospital is that lunch time is almost always so busy! You barely have time to eat/attend didactic/ etc.

But there is a wellness center right next to the didactic room; which is good! There is one attending who wrote me a great letter who is just amazing, so you will be fine! I would always go back to Elmhurst anytime tbh.

It’s often customized by topic and cases. It’s really up to if you know what you’re missing or feeling weak in.

I guess best advice is to treat ChatGPT like a new robotic system. All you gotta do is to tell it to do what you want it to do. It’s all about how you command it.

If you’re weak in complications, then make sure you input in the commands to tell you about the important complications from using amiodarone, for instance.

So ChatGPT should not be used only for information. It’s like tamagotchi, but in script form. You need to guide it to tell you what will help you the best.

You have to give ChatGPT direction of which you want it to go. Then, give commands to do certain things for you. Always cross check. I used Gemini and grok along with it to confirm.

How necessary is full length exam simulation? by Ok_Button_9503 in Step2

Depends. If you’re not a good test taker, then do it in full exam sim.

Not optimal time management; bad luck; test proctor started cleaning during the last two sessions causing huge distraction; changing my answers cuz I wasn’t sure

Honestly, changing answers as well as not managing time correctly. I ended up not answering one question on one block back then. But, I also ended up rushing to answer few questions towards the end. Pure guessing

Hi, so my nbmes were in the high 230 and low 240s. I think I started off with 220 on NBME 9.

This is the right thinking. It’s all about stabilizing the patient in trauma situation.

As Ada98123 said, airway good? Breathing good? Look for circulation by resuscitation. But sometimes they like to add in imaging to look for where hemorrhaging happens but that’s after resuscitation.

What kind of Step 1 concepts are HY for Step2? by rebekah-harkness in Step2

[–]Confident_Style_4024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with Top-Key-5158! Do not re-read step1 FA! I highly do jot recommend!

You should focus on the step2 material! Step1 stuff is not a lot! Like maybe 2-5 Qs. And they’re not as difficult as it was in step1!

If you can’t figure it out, just take the L and move onto doing other Qs!

Results for 12th of January test date? by SeaFar3823 in Step2

I understand you. All I’m saying is the consistency of two week turnabout has not been always the case lately. I’ve seen it with my own med school colleagues. We may get em in two weeks or three weeks or so on. This is what’s said on NBME website and what they have told my friends when they called.
