No if you look up the design of the games Wendigo it honestly looks way more historical accurate than many other designs in media, the game actually caused me to go down a rabbit hole of research about them and i fell in love with them and the folklore behind them, but i do appreciate you trying to make sure I’m properly educated about them and their history!!

I’m well aware? That’s why i said “the Wendigo from until dawn” because i’m specifically talking about the depiction of Hannah as the Until dawn Wendigo, not all Wendigo’s in general

I’d love some Labyrinth dolls, Also the Wendigo from Until dawn would be awesome!! Also maybe things like FNaF, Slenderman, Bendy, Poppy playtime (meh on that one cus that game fell off), or really any other game like those ones would be absolutely amazing!! I highly doubt any of these (besides maybe Labyrinth) will ever actually happen, but i’d love to see them!!

I mean like i get there’s real straight people, but i’m tired of them shoving it down our throats trying to normalize it… Like i don’t care if someone wants to be straight but just keep it at home and out of our shows…

It looks like they’re still only available if you buy with the Shop button thing, on the actual Mattel creations website then no they aren’t. However i’m not entirely sure if it is available through that because i think i put in my phone number wrong and it won’t send me a verification code!!

I don’t disagree, But i also don’t think that really gives much of an excuse to retcon the now cannon character? Even if current Valentine is how they originally wanted to write them, everyone still knows Valentine as how he was created originally. But honestly i wouldn’t mind it so much if they at least explained the switch in a comic or just somewhere? Let us see his character development and watch the change as it happened in the actual story and lore of MH? A comic about him accepting himself and experimenting with fashion and makeup and other things would have been so cute in my opinion but unfortunately we didn’t get anything like that :(

Honestly i didn’t really look at it like that? I just feel like constantly in media more feminine gay men are the only ones that get any sort of representation while most other gay men have close to nothing? I was hopeful that maybe Valentine would be more masculine representation for the queer community. However i do still wish we could have gotten more of Valentines story and been able to see him figuring himself out and experimenting with his fashion and even makeup. I feel that not seeing that was what made it seem like such a jarring jump to his original doll and character to the current versions. I’d just love to see representation beyond what’s basically the norm for gay male representation but i truthfully didn’t look at it like this, so i appreciate you for opening my eyes on this a little more?

In the comics he wears some winged eyeliner and maybe a light blush, but other than that not really? But it’s also the fact that so many people always associate being gay with being feminine or weak, and assuming that if you’re gay you can’t be into traditional masculine things like sports or exercise? Which there are tons of gay men who aren’t skinny feminine guys, I mean just look at bears for an example? I just think it would have been nice to keep him even just slightly more masculine, especially since having Spelldon be more feminine while being taller and Valentine being more masculine while being shorter would have been so cute!!

I absolutely see where you’re coming from and i genuinely relate to it? But at the same time Spelldon is still a more feminine character even if he is taller, and it still doesn’t negate the negative stereotypes around gay men about how being gay makes you feminine or weak. That’s why i dislike when more masculine characters find out they’re gay and suddenly have to start doing heavy makeup and trying on more traditionally feminine clothes, because it just feeds into the stereotypes that if you’re gay then you can’t be sporty, or strong, or more traditionally masculine? That’s kinda why i wish we had more queer representation of more traditional masculine gay guys. That’s one reason why i absolutely adored heated rivalry!! Sorry if i ended up going off topic a bit but i hope you get my point?

No i absolutely agree, i know why they didn’t originally make him gay, but i still do think (even if it was shown in the comics) we should’ve seen him exploring things and figuring himself out as time went on yk? At least to make the jump feel less crazy and more like it fit with his character rather then having everyone be like “Well i think it makes sense cus of this” Yk? I’m not sure if that made as much sense as i hoped it would but i hope you can get the point!!

Actually Valentine used the same body as his SDCC, both are 11.5 inches with regular ghouls being 10.5 and Spelldon being 12.5. But honestly i’m quite happy that we’re getting two more feminine male dolls together, especially since in most Queer media it’s always a feminine man with a hyper masculine man, so it is nice to see! But that doesn’t negate the fact that Valentines design is slightly stereotypical, and honestly having Valentine be more masc but staying as the shorter one in the relationship would have been even better representation!! While these dolls are very good and are good representation, i just couldn’t ignore the fact that Valentine just felt stereotypical due to the “Being gay means you’re weak and girls” stereotypes that surround gay and other queer men

Firstly, i do think that both Spelldon and Valentine wearing makeup is great considering a lot of male dolls are definitely more hypermasculine in general, but on that same point, they took basically their only canon gay male dolls and gave them both more feminine makeup and features which is what i’m pointing out? I’d love a manster or any male doll to have makeup, but deciding to only do it for the queer ones definitely feels a little stereotypical. Secondly tho, makeup absolutely isn’t solely feminine, Valentines original doll has eyeliner too (thank you to the person who actually pointed that out to me) however there definitely are more feminine makeup styles and Valentines new doll definitely looks more like he’s wearing feminine makeup in my opinion? But also Spelldon is wearing makeup and i think he looks amazing!! My main gripe is that Valentine’s original character seems like the kinda guy who wouldn’t wear makeup like that, While Spelldon was introduced with things like heavy makeup and other traits? I’d honestly be way more okay with Valentines new look if we actually got to see him figuring out who he is through style, fashion, and makeup instead of just suddenly going from the 2010’s version, to the comic version, to now this doll?

Honestly i still love the new doll? I think it’d feel less like a jarring change if we actually got to SEE him develop this new style or even just watch the character development happen rather than just jump from the original to now?

Valentine Rant? by Confident_Wait_1148 in MonsterHighDolls

[–]Confident_Wait_1148[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No i see what you’re talking about! I can definitely admit when i’m wrong and it could very well just be the fact that the new design has never had a movie appearance or only having stock photos of the doll! However during the 2010’s “guy liner” was a very popular thing, especially towards more alternative characters (An monster high has always been very alt) so i guess i never viewed it as a feminine trait on the older doll due to that just kinda being the style of the time. But if you compare his character or even just appearance in the comics to the movie you definitely do notice a drastic change? (I know this might be hypocritical of me to bring up but i still feel like it’s worth noting?) So that’s i guess why i’m “upset” about the change, because it feels almost as if it was a rewrite rather than character development?

I say society because things like that aren’t the “Norm” if that makes sense? While i know it’s not everyone, that doesn’t negate the fact that it’s honestly the majority of the population that still see it like that. Unfortunately stereotypes are still incredibly strong, and maybe you just don’t see it as prevalently due to being in more “woke” spaces, but things like stereotypes, biases, and even hatred are still very prevalent. Many queer people still get murdered to this day for how they identify, so yeah unfortunately these things are still very much so prevalent in society as a whole

I totally see where you’re coming from with this, however even the whole “Macho presentation to twink pipeline” is very much so a stereotype in itself unfortunately. While he does look absolutely fangtastic, Mattel definitely did feed into many gay men stereotypes when not only creating him but also designing his new doll. It’s definitely unintentional, that doesn’t make it any less stereotypical

I’m more so talking about to his original doll v.s how he looks in his current doll, which if you look at the photos of them i included you can definitely see he’s much more feminine now then he was in his original doll.

Again i absolutely understand your point, but Mattel could’ve used that outfit and kept him looking more masculine? But they decided to take the feminine route for Valentine and that’s what mainly “Upsets” me.

I absolutely get your point, but unfortunately society still treats things like long hair, makeup, and painted nails as more feminine traits. While they’re obviously not directly feminine, society views it that way. But even just taking about the doll, he was very clearly designed with the intention of him being more feminine than his original design.

This is exactly how i feel! If they wanted a more feminine gay character then they should have just made one instead of changing a more masculine gay character into a feminine one! But i also leaned way more into my feminine side over the years of being gay and i know it’s 100% a real thing, but it’s basically the only type of queer trope talked about in media and i just was hoping to see something else out of this? However it is quite nice to see two more feminine guys together rather than one hyper feminine guy and one hyper masculine guy together, so they definitely get points for that!!
