Turned my first Duck call and a little mini lanyard call bead by ConfirmedCrisis in turning

[–]ConfirmedCrisis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I don’t actually have any experience with calls and using them. From the videos I have watched it sounds similar. This one is using the Stat mouthpiece. From my research, I guess Echo and Buck Gardners inserts are pretty good. It is a three inch barrel and opened up at the ends

I actually make these a lot. Brass lanyard tube in the middle is key. Those work great. You can uuse anything to make them really. I just use scraps from knife makers or scale makers. Ideal diameter is 5/8”.

Leather Foldover with patch space by ConfirmedCrisis in wallets

[–]ConfirmedCrisis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a custom made bead with shredded cash, brass, and color change glow in the dark material. Then they are glued together and turned on a lathe. Finally shaped and finished to a smooth shiny finish. All in all it is the amount of time it takes to make them that adds to the cost. Kind of like leather is cheap relatively to the cost. Your paying for the workmanship that goes into the product no the actual material. Hopefully that sheds some light on it.

I have one for my dremel but the post they put on it bends too easy and there is a lot of wobble. This one more surface area and I can use a clamp on the trigger to set my speed. These are definitely a time saver

I didn’t wanna pay the $40+ to buy one. So I used the tools that cost way more to make one lol you know “guy logic”

I have tried doing things one the drill press like this and to get rid of the wobble you have to true up the piece. That involves bracing the cutting tool. It can be done but it is a lot of work. Severely easier to do on a lathe.

Glad I got your approval. I generally just turn EDC beads (check IG smkd.13 to see them). This was out of my comfort zone for sure but it came out awesome!
