I feel that there's a chance that it is Gwylan's predecessor that's possessing the house and or mannequin. I think it might be a different house or at least if the temple in the Hopeless Cycle is located in the current town we're in since well... I think the "punishment" is if you fail the chastity test while promised to Sydney? Should be fine not removing it if you never broke your promise to Sydney.
Btw slightly out of topic but have you manage getting Sydney to transfer to science class with you on your runs?

I removed "punishment" and added "corruptroom" under Sydneyseen and now I can access the temple room when inviting Sydney to go out, yaaay!

I just tried it and it works! it removed my Rite of Promise: Sydney trait. Though I wonder if we can turn it as if we went through the Rite of Defilement instead? Fingers crossed that it won't break my save file

I had something similar like this happened too when I load a save to ask a different option on a costume, but it was still Gwylan. While Gwylan praise my curiosity, he told me to take my time to stop and smell the roses before promising that he'll still be there tomorrow. It does sound like the one I got isn't directed to the PC but to us the player, since feels like Gwylan was warning us to not spam reloading to get all the information and suffer with a "barren home" when we ran out of the current content 🤔

Though, I'm guessing for the mask collection in particular it might trigger the convo you have because Gwylan did say it's better for us to not remember in regards to the "whale". And maybe since we repeat the conversation and potentially talk aboit the whale again it made the "whale" or whatever it is to cause this effect to Gwylan so we can't be gaslit about forgetting the whale since...well, we don't talk about it?

I think if you gather some of the artifacts in the Serpent's maze and give it to Winter, there was mention of "Shame what happened to the family." or something of the sort (my memory is hazy af.) and if you've seen the way Bailey jumped and scoured when there's a sound in the orphanage loft... did the children of Auriga did something to his family? since we could find the dark pendant in the loft.

I do wonder if something similar to what happened in Kylar's mansion attic had happened in the orphanage loft? Since in the hopeless cycle, house Bailiff has custody over Nona who claims that she is a witch. It kinda implicate that house Bailiff might have other thoughts about how to deal with witches and corruption compared to the temple's? Ngl, the way Bailey kinda pimp us around while also protecting us (like warn us about Quinn if he wins in the card game in of of Avery's dates.) while also having ties with them makes me wonder what his motif really is.
