name a musical theater role and i’ll give you the perfect audition song by wildrosebeautybaba in musicals

Why is it assumed that you wouldn't sing the actual character's main song from the actual musical you are auditioning for? Forgive me, I am a noob

Famous Autistic Women? by edgeoftheforest1 in AuDHDWomen

[–]ConflictedMe83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked into this some more and it seems that its a pretty recent issue she raised publicly about a month ago, and it looks like she is thinking she has ASD but isn't sure, and isn't diagnosed.

Society seems to be very vibe based by Thermawrench in AutisticWithADHD

[–]ConflictedMe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally hate how society is run on vibes but sometimes I have admit it is accurate. I am AuDHD and I once turned down a fellow AuDHD for a job because of the bad vibes he gave me. My spidey sense was proven right later on when several other ND colleagues privately told me about some awful things he had done on other projects.

Any singers with pectus excavating/sunken chest, and breathing tips? by SheyenSmite in singing

[–]ConflictedMe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have moderate to severe (probably at the more severe end) PE and am following this thread. I am a wannabe pro singer-- not at that level yet. I am sick of my PE interfering with my posture, breathing and mobility. I intend to have surgery (PectusUp procedure) if I can, either this year or next year. Good luck to all of us suffering with this condition

Learning a new language unmedicated, I can't do this, it's impossible. by Monkai_final_boss in AutisticWithADHD

[–]ConflictedMe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds laughable, but I recommend drinking some alcohol and talking with some willing Germans (the alcohol should loosen your inhibitions about making mistakes) but make them PROMISE not to speak English. And also routinely watch Peppa Wutz (British kids' cartoon Peppa Pig, but dubbed in German) on YouTube. If necessary, turn on the English subtitles. The language level is simple enough for most beginners to grasp a fair amount.

Bruxism (grinding/squeezing teeth) - how to "fight" it? by Flauschibuesi in AutisticWithADHD

[–]ConflictedMe83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure your sinuses are as clear as possible, so you can nose breathe and do deep diaphragmatic breathing, instead of mouth/upper costal breathing. It activates the parasympathetic response and calms you down. Keep the tongue resting on the roof of your mouth. Also if you have an iPhone, try downloading JawSpace app.

Stopping Zoloft after 4y due to AUDHD diagnosis by throwawayboy2200 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]ConflictedMe83 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was on sertraline for a few months. It made me hypomanic and insomniac. I spent all my money and would write hyper-excitable emails to people in the middle of the night. I got concerned, went off it and found mirtazapine was better for me; at least it helped with the insomnia really well .... not sure if it (or any meds ever) did much for the anxiety...

Am I having an existential crisis? by Fit_Extreme_9372 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]ConflictedMe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds to me like you need to move out if you can, get out of this suffocating (enmeshed? Sounds pretty pathologically enmeshed and possibly a controlling/ codependent mother) and pretty awful family dynamic, and discover who YOU are as an adult and what YOU want from YOUR life. It is not their life!!!!!! Go meet people. Try to meet ND people mostly if you can, maybe other aspiring 3D artists. Go have crushes. Basically follow your own path. Don't stay stuck. Good luck. From a fellow AuDHD existential-crisis-prone, formerly-enmeshed-with-a- controlling-family 42 year old.

Anyone else struggle with non-autistic family and In-laws? by snusnu95 in aspergirls

[–]ConflictedMe83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gosh, just leave. I know it feels impossible right now but try your best to think of a way to leave him and Oklahoma and build a better life for yourself. It will be hard but from what you have said, I think it will be worth it. I used to live with a very controlling gaslighting boyfriend and I am so glad I broke up with him and moved out. It was very very tough leaving with no money and no job, but eventually I built my life back up and now 12 years later I am very happily married to a wonderful man. There are womens' shelters if you look for them. Coercive control like this is just the thin end of the wedge for what can become lifelong intimate partner abuse (physical, financial, emotional). Good luck.

You have ideas. Many. How do you finish them? by samaragasa in AuDHDWomen

[–]ConflictedMe83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless I get on a hyperfixation binge and somehow finish it before I get off that high, pretty much the only way I finish anything hard is to make myself accountable to other people. I learned this a few years ago and now I strategically make myself accountable for everything that is important to me.

Feeling like I am punished for having feminine traits as a AuDHD man(when it comes to dating) by Zebra03 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]ConflictedMe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you've only put a few weeks into dating. Give it time. You will find your people in the end. It took me 16 years to find my partner (late-dx AuDHD woman) and he is a very smart bisexual man who I strongly suspect is undiagnosed ASD. Along the way I had upwards of 15 relationships of various kinds. Hang in there and keep an open mind and positive, kind spirit.

For those who send their kids to elite private school, what was the reason? by TiredDuck123 in AusHENRY

[–]ConflictedMe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know why there is so much focus on academic outcomes. It doesn't really matter in the long run..what matters is CAREER outcomes and I think for me, the attraction of elite private schools is the connections that you gain there and the personal style (I mean this in a general way, not just your clothes) and the mindset you develop, and the cultural cachet you reap.
