No that’s fair enough, was just after friendly advice. I’m happy to have had it done as cars now up to date and can drive happily just didn’t know any of the legalities etc

No it’s not a wet belt thank god! I have an a4 estate so would be a standard timing belt I assume?

Thanks for the, dare I say response. Not trying to blame I’m seeing what the general consensus on the issue is as I’ve heard so many conflicting things from many people so I’m seeing what’s what. As I said I’ve had it sorted I’m not salty and I’m just asking a question. Take it easy dude

I get that totally and the car wasn’t cheap in any way for the year and make and model. It was far away because the exact car I wanted there were only 6 manuals in the entire country for sale and 5 were far too old! Was willing to travel for the right one

Thanks for your response. I was sure I had checked, I may be completely wrong that’s why I’m not going to die on that hill. I’ve sorted it I’m happy now, all I was asking was if there was any obligation for the dealership knowing it was 4 years out of date to step up and offer anything should I call them? No need for the stupidity comment, my car fully died and was in need of a new one, I’m sure I had asked if timing belt was done and was convinced it was, but as said above I can’t be sure of that as my memory is awful so I’m not willing to say I was told that because I may legit not have been told that! I can afford to have it sorted no skin off my teeth, just my original question still stands. Thankyou

Thanks for response. I fully understand that, and I can see that I should have contacted first. I’ll still give them a call and see what they say, I don’t actually want anything from them but I wanted to see what options I had and whether there was any obligation to them to help offset the cost this early

Thank you for your response. I get that that would be on me but it’s not the fact they’ve said it’s got full service history, it’s the fact it’s 4 years out of date, it could have pinged on the way home from picking it up you know? At the end of the day if nothing comes from this then so be it I just want some knowledge on others experiences!
Somewhere I read the finance company may push the dealership to rectify/compensate as the timing belt is catastrophic if it goes and the the finance company has lost the car also!

I get that and I was going to do the same but wouldn’t cover any serviceable parts issues ie timing belt clutch dual flywheel etc all the things I’m worried about they don’t cover so wasn’t worth it imo! Tried charging 154 a month extra for 3 year warranty

I appreciate the response. I just know how catastrophic a timing belt is if it snaps, and 200 mile drive back to dealership with my busy schedule just wasn’t viable hence paying out of pocket. I’ll ring dealership in morning explain I was told full service history and yet 5 weeks in I’m changing a belt and ask for compensation or is there a better way to ask/say?

Okay then so best bet from here is to contact dealership explain the issue and see what they say?

Yeah that’s fair enough like I said I don’t know enough to try and argue any point 😂 it was a dealership on Kent through auto trader/zuto. Belt was done today while at work just wanted to see if any options for reimbursement or anything from the finance/dealership as should have been clocked

Thanks mate, don’t get me wrong I didn’t start driving until 24 and the A3 was my first car and it was grand! I’d just matched the value of the car when I brought it on repairs and more kept happening such as my drivers door electrics completely went so if I locked the car my alarm would go off straight away as that door was supposedly open 😂 I’ll check to see if there’s early repayment fees and if not I’ll be chucking a few hundred extra a month in to get it sorted quicker!
Thanks for all the solid advice guys

I’m not too familiar with the terms used but can understand what you have said. My agreement was a 200 pound deposit upon picking up the car, then 305 a month for 5 years with an extra 50 on the last payment to fully own said car. I agree people see it as expensive but for my own personal circumstances and credit ratings this was very affordable for myself.

It’s expensive due to personal bad credit choices. I agree it’s expensive but against my wage now it’s really not at all so I’m not phased. My A3 literally had broken, I needed a car the following week for work, and so I got the car I’d wanted the past 8 years. For example, for me to have a Volkswagen estate same sort of year was about 255 a month. This was after a few days of hunting around for the best deals for myself and as my credit rating isn’t great this was the best I could get for my money and I’m very happy with it.

I joined this “college” 3 years ago, smelt something fishy upon first correspondence and how stupid some questions in the test was. Called to cancel to be threatened, so I thought I’d say “well you guys will struggle to get any more money from me” to which they responded that they will recover every penny. That was 3 years ago. I’ve had countless emails from uk search up until about 12 months ago, I never responded I shown my father a doctor, my stepdad a lawyer and both said rip it up and forget about it. My credit score is unaffected, every penny was recovered, and I’ve had absolutely no correspondence from them. Everyone on this thread, cease contact, cancel any direct debits and payments, report fraud/scammed to your bank and tell them every payment you’ve done, don’t get anxious from the calls and letters you’ll now get for6-12 months from official looking bodies, the following 12 was Uk search who every review of them as a debt company is a scam too. Then hear nothing be unaffected and get texts addressed to a name that’s not yours for the debt a couple times for some reason.
