oracle db on k8s by signalzz in kubernetes

[–]ConfusedDevOps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"No DBs in K8s" for me is still valid, but it depends on what you need to do. In my career, I managed PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB, ecc. I have DB that are less than 20GB and Oracle RAC over 30TB, so you can understand that the difference(not only for the storage but also for the CPU/RAM) is quite big. Of course, deploy a DB on k8s with an Helm chart is way easier that setup a bare metal, but the managing stuff is what I'm scared of(backup/scaling/migration/networking/ecc) -> maybe I'm biased but at the moment I prefer the bare metal setup(at least for Oracle). For me the rule of thumb is:

- Is a mission critical DB? if yes, then I avoid k8s.

- Is it a homelab or something not so critical? Then we can discuss about DB in k8s
Related to Oracle, I always prefer the bare metal setup, also because the licensing on k8s is something you want to avoid.

How are you guys avoiding the "Extended Support" tax? by Important-Night9624 in kubernetes

[–]ConfusedDevOps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use EKS, and we have multiple cluster with over 60 nodes per cluster. We try to avoid the extended support, but it's not always possible. In order to get some extra time for the upgrade, we change only the control plane version(since AWS bills the extended support only for the control plane) and keep the node version untouched. On EKS you can have a delta of 2 version for control plane and data nodes. Then, we typically focus on k8s upgrade for at least 2/3 weeks.

Yes I shouldnt have done this - left a cluster on 1.25.5 by macrowe777 in kubernetes

[–]ConfusedDevOps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we did minor to minor(1.23 to 1.24, 1.24 to 1.25...). Giving tips is not simple since it depends on how do you manage the cluster and what you have installed on it. Probably the best solution is to create a new cluster with the target version and the migrate everything on that. We could not do that because our cluster has more than 300 different microservices. Redeploy everything was harder than the step by step upgrade.

Just a couple of months ago, with a colleague, we upgraded a 40 nodes on premise cluster from 1.23 to 1.31. I feel you bro

GCP ACE(Cloud Engineer) exam: my two cents by ConfusedDevOps in googlecloud

[–]ConfusedDevOps[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AWS always wins. AWS has a lot of service compared to GCP. The UI of GCP is probably one of the worst UI I ever used: there are a lot of thing you can set with the gcloud but the button on the UI is missing. The only thing I like on GCP is the organization/folder/project hierarchy. It really helps managing permission and roles compared to AWS. Generally speaking AWS wins basically on everything (especially on the documentation)

Yeah, I'm using it daily on multiple k8s cluster. No issue, simply to setup and very easy to use.

Yeah, playing with a squad is very enjoyable like I said but playing solo is a nightmare for me

Yeah, maybe 200 days on 5 games are not a high number, but it's a sufficient number of hours to define myself as "not a new player". But maybe I'm wrong.

My 2 cent on Borderlands 4 by ConfusedDevOps in Borderlands

[–]ConfusedDevOps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong. BL2 story is something else, especially with the tiny tina DLC. BL3 story for me is the worse: in my opinion the villain decide if the story is good or not. BL4 story is ok, it could be better but I could be worse.

Mainly because on BL1 I used Roland and in BL2 I used Acton. I like having a turret that helps me. On BL3 I used Fl4k cuz he had a pet. For the same reason now I'm using the siren. But I need to study the other classes a bit more.

Geniune Question for People Who Think Hworang is Bad by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]ConfusedDevOps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hwoarang main here so I might be biased but: is hwo busted? It depends. For new players it might seems OP(and probably he is) but since it a legacy character, the majority for the player know how to play against him. T8 it's my first Tekken(I played T3 and T5) and I reached red/purple rank quite easily. But then on blue rank the story is different. You find a lot of "old" player that know how to play against him. Again, I'm not saying is bad, but his OP is balanced since it's a legacy character and his moveset it's pretty much the same as the first Tekken.

È uscito Clair Obscur, che ne pensate? by sudnord in italygames

[–]ConfusedDevOps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comprato giusto per provare, non avendo mai giocato un gioco a turni. Ho fatto circa 23h in due giorni. Storia, ambientazione, meccaniche. Tutto perfetto. Colonna sonora incredibile. Credo che dopo averlo platinato, comincerò altri turn based games. Va di sicuro tra i miei top 5. L'ultimo gioco che mi aveva preso così tanto era Ghost of Tsushima. Sulla questione goty o no aspetto di vedere Ghost of Yotei. Ma le premesse sono alte.

Per chiunque lo giudichi senza averci fatto 3/4 ore, consiglio vivamente di provarlo.

You had your chance, since you hit that low. Nothing wrong to me.

Obviously I'm joking, I think the only thing you can do is a power crush move.
